Iran Nuclear Watch: President Bush – “Iran Has Weeks NOT Months”

Iranian technicians remove a container of radioactive uranium — that was previously sealed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) — to be used at the Isfahan uranium conversion facilities (UCF) in August 2005. A cleric close to Iran’s supreme leader has said Tehran would not suspend its nuclear program of uranium enrichment.

Reuters: Bush says Iran has “weeks not months” to respond

President George W. Bush said on Friday that Iran has “weeks not months” to respond to a U.S.-backed offer aimed at containing Iran’s nuclear ambitions and said Tehran needs to suspend uranium enrichment.

Bush said if Iran does not suspend enrichment, “there must be a consequence” and that it would be action taken in the U.N. Security Council.

“We have given the Iranians a limited period of time, weeks not months,” to respond to an offer for an incentives package for Iran to ensure it does not pursue nuclear weapons, said Bush.

In all probability they have until the G8 meeting in St. Petersburg beginning July 15th. Of course, Iran could reject the Big 6 offer at any time. But, this is doubtful.

French President Jacques Chirac (R) and British Prime Minister Tony Blair , give a press conference at the Elysee Palace in Paris, during the Franco-British summit focused on Europe’s energy supplies and Iran ‘s nuclear program

President Bush is making these statements because he has heard enough “bellyaching” from the Mullahs and Ahmadinejad over the details of the Big 6 initiative. And Bush, plus the Europeans are not going to stand by while the Iranians manipulate the Western media cycle to bash them daily.

The proposal is simple.

Iran STOPS uranium enrichment or face United Nations Security Council “CONSEQUENCES.”
