R/A: Landrieu stumps for Lieberman

U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., campaigned delicately here Thursday for U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn.

Most of Lieberman’s Democratic colleagues have butted out of Connecticut since he lost an August primary to Greenwich businessman Ned Lamont.

Landrieu is one of the few exceptions, and, even rarer still, she openly supports Lieberman’s independent run for re-election as petition candidate.

Her appearances with Lieberman on Thursday put her at odds with a majority of Democratic officials in the state, including the three Democrats in Congress and party leaders.

“I didn’t come here to say the least negative thing about Mr. Lamont or the Democratic Party,” Landrieu said at a campaign stop in Berlin.

“Most of my Senate Democratic colleagues have stayed out of this race, and that too means something to me,” Lieberman said.

Well, having a double digit lead in the polls scares the Democrats.

But……the wannabe candidates for President in 2008 have been submissive to the NUTROOTS and have been helping Ned Lamont.

Only a handful of Senate Democrats have contributed cash to Lamont.

They include Sens. Harry Reid, D-Nev., Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., Barack Obama, D-Ill., Barbara Boxer, D-Calif. and Russ Feingold, D-Wis. They each gave $5,000 through their political action committees.

“You know the Washington politicians sometimes they hedge their bets a little bit … I feel pretty confident about the quality of support we are getting,” Lamont said.

Is this why Lamont has been self-funding his own campaign? Hedging?
