Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy Vs Hillary and Hillary’s Surrogate – MoveOn.org
The FLAP between Rudy and Hillary Clinton first started on Monday with the MoveON.org ad against General Petraeus:
And Rudy fired back yesterday and pledged to run this ad today in the New York Times:
The New York Times ad ran and Rudy fired another barrel with a web ad:

The transcript of the ad:
NARRATOR: “In 2002, Hillary Clinton voted to authorize military action in Iraq … because she believed it was the right thing to do.â€
CLINTON: “If left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.â€
CLINTON: “He has also given aid, comfort and sanctuary to terrorists, including Al-Qaeda members.â€
CLINTON: “So it is with conviction that I support this resolution as being in the best interests of our nation.â€
NARRATOR: “But now that she’s running for President, Hillary Clinton has changed her position, even joining with the radical group MoveOn.org in attacking American General Petraeus. Clinton stood silently by when MoveOn.org ran this venomous ad in The New York Times.â€
NARRATOR: “The same General she called an expert not long ago.â€
NARRATOR: “Now, she is questioning his honesty.â€
HILLARY CLINTON: “The reports that you provide to us really require the willing suspension of disbelief.â€
NARRATOR: “Just when our troops need all our support to finish the job, Hillary Clinton is turning her back on them. General Petraeus and the brave men and women now serving under him deserve an apology. And our nation deserves better. Senator Clinton, do the right thing. Apologize for your comments and condemn the MoveOn.org ad.â€
Hillary’s campaign then fired back this statement:
“It’s hardly surprising that Mayor Giuliani is running the first negative ad of the ’08 campaign, given his inability to justify his unqualified support for President Bush’s failed Iraq strategy.”
In response MoveOn.org has produced a television campaign ad to run in Iowa beginning Monday:
In response, a liberal anti-war group is running a $50,000 ad campaign against Giuliani in Iowa, which begins the presidential nominating process. The television ad from MoveOn.org Political Action, which will start airing next week, accuses Giuliani of a “betrayal of trust” for abandoning the Iraq Study Group.
“Rudy Giuliani has become an uncritical cheerleader for George Bush’s war in Iraq,” said Eli Pariser, the group’s director. “Yet when he had the chance to actually do something about the war, he went AWOL.”
Responding to this news, Giuliani Communications Director Katie Levinson fired back:
“Being attacked by the Democratic character assassination machine MoveOn.org is something Rudy Giuliani will wear as a badge of honor. This is, after all, the same liberal group whose website compared President Bush to Adolf Hitler, the same liberal group that wanted no military response against the Taliban in Afghanistan in the aftermath of September 11th and the same liberal group that consistently opposes funding for our troops in the theater of war.”
Welcome to the Presidential campaign of 2008 except it is in 2007.
Flap sees this FLAP as helping the Mayor and wedging Hillary between her anti-Iraq war left flank and the independent voters she needs to be elected. Hillary has been laying low on the Iraq War since she voted for it and yet supports a precipitous withdrawal.
And Iowa?
Of all states that Rudy needs a conservative voter bump it is Iowa. Hillary and MoveOn.org have obliged nicely. And the fundraising – well it has to be good.
Now, will Romney and Thompson pile on next week?
Stay tuned……..
