The Canadian Fraser Institute has released a paper, How Good is Canadian Health Care? 2005 Report. The answer is NOT so good.

The paper, released by the right-leaning Fraser Institute, compares 27 countries that all guarantee access to health care, regardless of ability to pay.

The report says Sweden, Japan, France and Australia all outperform Canada in the following areas: keeping women with breast cancer alive; preventing death from disease; waiting times for health services and the number of years people can expect to live without a disability.

“Canadians continue to not get value for their money,” says Nadeem Esmail, co-author of the report.

Administration officials say President Bush is preparing to use constitutional powers rarely employed for major appointments to bypass the Senate and install – if only temporarily – John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

Bush intends to use a recess appointment to put the controversial conservative in the post before leaving Washington on Tuesday to spend August at his Texas ranch, said two officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because Bush has not made the announcement.

Recess appointments, allowed only while Congress is on breaks, let presidents get around the required Senate confirmation of nominees. The House and Senate recessed on Friday until Sept. 6.

Under the Constitution, a recess appointment during the lawmakers’ August break would last until the next Congress, which begins in January 2007.

In Bolton’s case, a recess appointment would culminate a bitter, five-month battle between the White House and Democrats that had left his nomination stalled in the Republican-run Senate.

Flap previously urged the President to appoint John Bolton as a recess appointment.

Now, it is time for Bolton to kick some United Nations’ bureaucrats and get that agency on the right track (if it can be accomplished).

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and actor Danny Devito are teaming up again. This time the Twins are promoting the California State Fair.

They’re at the end of a 30-second T-V spot that shows people and farm animals having a fun day together at the beach.

With surf-type guitar music in the background, the announcer says “Beach culture meets agriculture. The California State Fair Beach Party” with the dates (August 12th – September fifth).

Next thing you know the “Twins” show up looking very beachy in flowered shirts. There’s a close-up of them apparently looking out at this unusual scene. That’s when Schwarzenegger says “I love Cal-ee-FORN’-yuh.” DeVito waits a beat and says “It is original.” Currently the spot is running only in Northern California.

And the Democrat legislative and union leaders really thought those negative television ads would intimidate the Governator?
