LA Times Watch: Propaganda at the L.A. Times
os Angeles Times Editor John S. Carroll, left, announces his retirement to news staff. Managing Editor Dean P. Baquet, center, will succeed him on Aug. 15. Publisher Jeffrey M. Johnson, right, praised Carroll’s leadership, saying, “We are indebted to him for his extraordinary legacy of journalistic excellence and wish him every happiness in the future.â€
The NRO media blog with Stephen Spruiell Reporting outs Murtha as a critic of the Iraq War.
Note to hapless LAT publisher Jeffrey Johnson: Instead of reviving Robert Scheer’s dormant career by firing him, or having your telemarketers boast that you’ve extirpated liberal Michael Kinsley’s insidious influence, why not pay attention to the bias on the pages people actually read — like the embarrassing deception in the second paragraph of Friday’s front-page, two-column-headline lead story, which seemingly proclaimed that “no Democrat was a firmer ally” of Bush’s war against Saddam than Rep. John Murtha, when in fact Murtha had been a critic of the current Iraq war in 2002, before it started? Funny how those propagandistic mistakes in the news pages never get made in a pro-Bush direction, isn’t it?
HEH!
In all fairness though other Media Ignore Congressman Murtha’s Long History Of Opposition to the Iraq War.

Iraq War Watch: MURTHAGATE?
“MURTHAGATE” – the loud tear-filled call for immediate withdrawal was a smokescreen.
A commenter on this blog – “Noble” – suggested that perhaps (1) Murtha’s sudden BIG LOUD TEAR-FILLED call for “immediate withdrawal from Iraq,” (an OLD position for him, but one that he had NEVER tried to BROADCAST AS LOUDLY OR AS WIDELY BEFORE), AND (2) the sudden “play” it got from the House Democrats – led by Nancy Pelosi the Minority Leader – was a smokescreen intended to BOTH misdirect attention from impending ethics investigations over them both using influence to steer DOD business to their relatives and business friends.
Specifically it seems that Murtha steered business to HIS BROTHER’S LOBBYING FIRM – KSA – and helped Pelosi get a big project for her district which DIRECTLY BENEFITTED A RELATIVE OF HERS.
I am wondering IF he has Proposed this controversial CUT AND RUN proposal as a smoke screen, so he can come back and tell the public that the Bush White House is investigating him because they are trying to punish him…”

Iraq War Watch: Bush Hails Mongolia for Backing Iraq War
U.S. President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush wave as they board Air Force One en route to Mongolia in Beijing, China, Monday, Nov. 21, 2005.
The ASSociated Press has Bush Hails Mongolia for Backing Iraq War
In the wake of congressional unrest over his war policies, President Bush thanked Mongolia on Monday for standing with him in Iraq and compared the struggle against Islamic radicalism to this country’s battle against communism.
“Free people did not falter in the Cold War, and free people will not falter in the war on terror,” the president said in a speech prepared for delivery to members of Parliament and others at the Government House.
Bush said Mongolia has stood with the United States as “brothers in the cause of freedom.” He called Mongolians’ success in driving communist leaders from power 15 years ago an example for the world.
“Like the ideology of communism, the ideology of Islamic radicalism is destined to fail _ because the will to power is no match for the universal desire to live in freedom,” Bush said.
Sounds like Mongolia better understands the GWOT than Congressman Murtha.
Make no mistake Murtha has every right to make his views known about the Iraq War.
But he is WRONG!

Samuel Alito Watch: Chance of Filibuster
Sen. David Vitter, R-La., right, meets with Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito on Capitol Hill, Friday, Nov. 18, 2005.
The ASSociated Press has Biden: Chance of Alito Filibuster Higher
The views that Samuel Alito expressed on reapportionment in a 20-year- old document could jeopardize his Supreme Court nomination and provoke a filibuster, a leading Democratic senator said Sunday.
“I think he’s got a lot of explaining to do, and depending on how he does, I think will determine whether or not he has a problem or not,” said Sen. Joseph Biden, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which plans confirmation hearings in early January.
In 1985, Alito was applying to become deputy assistant attorney general in the Reagan administration. In the document, he boasted that while working as an assistant to the solicitor general, he helped “to advance legal positions in which I personally believe very strongly.”
Drawing the most attention from Alito’s critics today is his comment on abortion.
“I am particularly proud of my contributions in recent cases in which the government argued that racial and ethnic quotas should not be allowed and that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion,” wrote Alito, now a federal appeals court judge.Flap encourages SLOW JOE BIDEN to filibuster Alito.
The Republican majority will change the rules and Alito will be confirmed.
End of whine after whine story from Biden and crew.
Just a reminder of the Senate Judiciary vote on Chief Justice John Roberts…..
The five Democrats who voted against confirmation are:
Joe Biden of Delaware
Dianne Feinstein of California
Dick Durbin of Illinois
Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts
Charles Shumer of New York
Biden’s arguments against Judge Alito are an EXCUSE not rationale.

President 2008 Watch: Giuliani favored over Clinton
The United Press Inrernational has Poll: Giuliani favored over Clinton
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, a Republican, easily tops U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., in a new presidential preference poll.
Of the 455 respondents nationwide who volunteered a response regarding potential 2008 match-ups, Giuliani received 54 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 38 percent — in the poll conducted by Canisius College, in Buffalo, N.Y.
Michael V. Haselswerdt, co-director of the poll, said: “Clinton loses among voters in the red states, which is no surprise, but Giuliani breaks even in the blue states.”
Electoral vote rich California and New York are NO longer a BLUE lock with a Giuliani-Clinton contest.
Rudy and George Allen will make a formidable team as we head into election 2008.
Stay tuned……..
