Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Says BACK OFF Or…
Iranian women walk past an anti-US mural in downtown Tehran. Iran will cease cooperating with the UN nuclear watchdog if it refers the country’s nuclear dossier to the Security Council, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said.
The Guardian: Iran’s message to the west: back off or we retaliate
Iran’s foreign minister yesterday threatened immediate retaliation over a move to refer its nuclear weapons activities to the United Nations security council in comments which deepen his country’s confrontation with the international community.
In an interview with the Guardian – his first with western media – Manouchehr Mottaki accused the US of manufacturing the crisis and insisted there was still time to avoid a collision. But he warned that any military action by the US or Israel against Iran would have “severe consequences” and would be countered “by all means” at Iran’s disposal.
The IAEA will meet today and make their recommendations.
Flap handicaps a deferral to the March meeting.
Israel and the United States will NOT be deferring their WAR PLANS.
Stay tuned……..

California Republican Party Convention Watch: No BLOG Press Credentials

Boi From Troy: CRP cuts off nose to spite face
The rise of two ultra-conservative weblogs in California has made “blog a four-letter word at the California Republican Party. Now they’re running scared from the Internets at precisely the time they should be embracing it.
At the Fall 2005 Republican State Convention, the Bear Flag League, with help from Insurance Commissioner Candidate Dr. Phil Kurzner organized a salon for bloggers where down-ticket candidates such as Tony Strickland, Gary Mendoza and Eric Siddall came to talk about their vision for California and the State Party.
Then-communications director Karen Hanretty caught wind of the plan and offered to issue press credentials to bloggers for the Anaheim event. That weekend in Anaheim, John Fleishman and Steve Frank announced that they planned on starting their own blogs. Little did anyone know what would happen next.
Actually, Steve Frank announed in July 2005 that he was starting his blog as an extension of his weekly e-mail newsletter. And Jon Fleishman’s new website and blog had been long in the making.
But, nevertheless because either the Governor or the CRP Executive Board decided they might FOSTER MORE criticism during an election year they pulled the plug on bloggers obtaining press credentials.
Will this stop bloggers attending the CRP convention in February. NOPE.
Fleishmann and Frank will have access to the convention regardless of what the CRP does, yet the other bloggers—who may just provide a balancing perspective to their anti-Arnold vitriol—will be silenced by the Party’s reaction to the media’s love-affair with the California Conservative blogger.
Other bloggers WILL have access and YES the CRP has shot itself in the foot AGAIN.
Flap suggests the CRP and Governor Schwarzenegger reconsider their decisions………

Iran Nuclear Watch: Bush – United States Will Defend Israel Against Iran
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad (C) talks on his mobile phone during a tour of the Bushehr nuclear power plant. Iran threatened to retaliate if it is hauled before the UN Security Council over its disputed nuclear program, by kick-starting sensitive fuel cycle work and blocking international inspections.
Reuters: Bush: US would defend Israel against Iran
President George W. Bush vowed on Wednesday the United States would defend Israel militarily if needed against Iran and denounced Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for “menacing talk” against Israel.
In a Reuters interview aboard Air Force One en route to Nashville, Bush also said he saw a “very good chance” the governing board of the International Atomic Energy Agency would refer Iran to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions.
“I am concerned about a person that, one, tries to rewrite the history of the Holocaust, and two, has made it clear that his intentions are to destroy Israel,” Bush said.
“Israel is a solid ally of the United States, we will rise to Israel’s defense if need be. So this kind of menacing talk is disturbing. It’s not only disturbing to the United States, it’s disturbing for other countries in the world as well,” he added.
Asked if he meant the United States would rise to Israel’s defense militarily, Bush said: “You bet, we’ll defend Israel.”

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Will Resist “Bully Nations”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks in Bushehr, southern Iran, Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, the site of Iran’s only nuclear power plant to which Russia is putting the finishing touches. Iran will defy Western pressure and complete its nuclear program, Ahmadinejad vowed Wednesday, a day before the U.N. nuclear agency is likely to vote to haul the country before the Security Council.
ASSociated Press: Iran Leader Vows to Resist ‘Bully’ Nations
Iran’s president lashed out Wednesday at the United States and vowed to resist the pressure of “bully countries” as European nations circulated a draft resolution urging that Tehran be brought before the U.N. Security Council for its nuclear activities.
In a speech to thousands of supporters hours after
President Bush’s State of the Union address, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad derided the United States as a “hollow superpower” that is “tainted with the blood of nations” and said Tehran would continue its nuclear program.“Nuclear energy is our right, and we will resist until this right is fully realized,” Ahmadinejad told the crowd in the southern Iran city of Bushehr, the site of Iran’s only nuclear power plant.
“Our nation can’t give in to the coercion of some bully countries who imagine they are the whole world and see themselves equal to the entire globe,” he added.
The crowd responded with chants of “Nuclear energy is our right!”
It is also Iran’s right to have their nuclear facilities bombed to prevent them from weaponizing nuclear materials. The United Nations and IAEA referral is important and diplomacy is always preferable to military operations but the will to solve this crisis is found only in the United States and Israel.
Iran’s top nuclear negotiator, Ali Larijani, said at a news conference that the Islamic republic would halt intrusive U.N. inspections of its nuclear facilities and resume large-scale enrichment of uranium if it is taken before the U.N. Security Council, which could impose sanctions.
Larijani also said Iran remains committed to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, despite calls from hard-line newspapers to withdraw from the agreement if the
International Atomic Energy Agency reports Iran to the Security Council on Thursday, as expected.Iran’s main enrichment plant at Natanz “is ready for work,” he said.
“We only need to notify the IAEA that we are resuming enrichment. When we do that is our call,” Larijani said. If Iran is reported to the Security Council, we will do it quickly,” he added.
The referral to the United Nations Security Council cannot come fast enought.
But, will this be enough for the United States and Israel? Perhaps for now……
Iran WILL Respond and then……….
Stay tuned…

California Election 2006: Eve of Election Fundraising Numbers
Los Angeles Times: Gov.’s Campaign Is in Debt
On eve of election battle, Democratic rivals and union foes have more than $50 million. The Numbers:
Governor:
Arnold Schwarzenegger: $410,00 in debt
Steve Westly: $24 million
Phil Angelides: $17.1 million
Attorney General:
Jerry Brown: $3.6 million
Rocky Delgadillo: $2.3 million
Chuck Poochigian: $3.6 million
The UNIONS:
California Teachers Association: $11.6 million
The California Correctional Peace Officers’ Assn: $675,000
Marty Wilson, who oversees fund-raising for the governor, said Schwarzenegger had begun raising money for his campaign. “I’m confident we’ll have the funds necessary,” Wilson said.
Angelides and Westly need war chests for the primary fight, while Schwarzenegger probably won’t have a June challenger.
Marty Wilson is correct.
The Governor will be able to raise the funds necessary for a credible campaign.
With Steve Westly able to self-fund and funnel millions into his campaign watch for early attack ads against Phil Angelides. Will this provide campaign fodder for Schwarzenegger?
You betcha……..
