Iran Nuclear Watch: United States Ready to Bring United Nations Security Council Resolution to a Vote
John Bolton, United States Ambassador to the U.N., talks to the media after an informal meeting of the members of U.N. Security Council at the offices of the British Mission to United Nations in New York to discuss the Iranian nuclear program Saturday, May 6, 2006.
The United States said Saturday it was prepared to bring a U.N. resolution on Iran’s nuclear program to a vote — with or without Russia and China’s support — but was still seeking to bridge differences and win unanimous Security Council approval.
After an informal meeting at Britain’s U.N. Mission, council members said they made progress in a paragraph-by-paragraph discussion of the draft resolution. Britain’s U.N. Ambassador Emyr Jones Parry acknowledged, however, that the most contentious issues were not discussed in detail.
“We are still working to achieve unanimity … but we’re prepared to go to a vote without it,” U.S. Ambassador John Bolton said. “We’re not prepared to extend these negotiations endlessly … I think it’s realistic to consider this for a vote next week.”
The United States and its allies are going to PRESS this issue to the UNSC.
They will make Russia and/or China fish or cut bait on Iran’s nuclear program.
Let’s get this party started………

NHS Dentistry Watch: Do It Yourself Dentistry for NHS Dentist Short Britain
William Kelly, 43, extracted part of his own tooth, leaving a black stump. He plans to pull one more.
New York Times: In a Dentist Shortage, British (Ouch) Do It Themselves
“I snapped it out myself,” said William Kelly, 43, describing his most recent dental procedure, the autoextraction of one of his upper teeth.
Now it is a jagged black stump, and the pain gnawing at Mr. Kelly’s mouth has transferred itself to a different tooth, mottled and rickety, on the other side of his mouth. “I’m in the middle of pulling that one out, too,” he said.
It is easy to be mean about British teeth. Mike Myers’s mouth is a joke in itself in the “Austin Powers” movies. In a “Simpsons” episode, dentalphobic children are shown “The Big Book of British Smiles,” cautionary photographs of hideously snaggletoothed Britons. In Mexico, protruding, discolored and generally unfortunate teeth are known as “dientes de ingles.”
But the problem is serious. Mr. Kelly’s predicament is not just a result of cigarettes and possibly indifferent oral hygiene; he is careful to brush once a day, he said. Instead, it is due in large part to the deficiencies in Britain’s state-financed dental service, which, stretched beyond its limit, no longer serves everyone and no longer even pretends to try.
Mr. Kelly, interviewed in a health clinic here as he waited for his son to see a doctor, last visited a dentist six years ago, in Sussex.
Since moving to Rochdale, a working-class suburb of Manchester, he has been unable to find a National Health Service dentist willing to take him on.
Every time he has tried to sign up, lining up with hundreds of others from the ranks of the desperate and the hurting — “I’ve seen people with bleeding gums where they’ve ripped their teeth out,” he said grimly — he has arrived too late and missed the cutoff.
“You could argue that Britain has not seen lines like this since World War II,” said Mark Pritchard, a member of Parliament who represents part of Shropshire, where the situation is just as grim. “Churchill once said that the British are great queuers, but I don’t think he meant that in connection to dental care.”
Britain has too few public dentists for too many people. At the beginning of the year, just 49 percent of the adults and 63 percent of the children in England and Wales were registered with public dentists.
Terrible treatment these British folks are receiving from their socialized government National Health Service. The government taxes the people exorbitantly, promises them basic dental care and then screws the patients and the dentists.
Is there any wonder why Tony Blair’s government sustained major losses in elections last week?
So, what is the solution?
Well, not the recruitment of Polish dentists to do work “that British dentists will NOT do.” Does this sound familiar?
The solution: privitization of British dentistry with government vouchers for the poor and indigent. And…. a little chairty form the British Dental Association until privitization kicks in fully.
Of course, there can always be more “Do It Yourself” stories.

France Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin Watch: Dirty Tricks Threaten French Government
French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin has hit back over claims he lied about a dirty tricks campaign at the heart of his government. De Villepin denied he ordered a secret enquiry into his political rival Nicolas Sarkozy.
Washington Post: With Smear Scandal, France Near Paralysis
When French criminal investigators finish their probe of the smear, who was smeared and who did the smearing may be little more than a footnote.
A burgeoning political scandal of alleged dirty tricks involving the cabinet’s two top ministers has tainted the entire French government, pushing it to the brink of paralysis and collapse in the final year of President Jacques Chirac’s administration, according to government officials and political analysts.
The French government is a mess. Scandel, political machinations and exposes involving President Jacques Chirac, Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin and Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy.
Read all of the sordid details.
And Chirac continues to support de Villepin…..UNBELIEVABLE.
They should all resign.
First, there were immigrant riots
Next, the First Choice CPE protests and street demonstrations.
Maybe the French need a grand revolution?
Actually, these Chirac government characters just need to go……
Captain Ed has his analysis: France Creaks Towards Collapse
French President Jacques Chirac (3rd L) attends a meeting with his cabinet including Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin (2nd R) on the controversial CPE youth jobs contract law at the Elysee Palace in Paris April 10, 2006. President George Bush Watch: Conservatives Drive Presidents Approval Down – Redux
U.S. President George W. Bush (R) greets graduates as he arrives to deliver the commencement address at graduation ceremonies at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, May 6, 2006.
Hugh Hewitt: Timing Is Everything: Painting the Map Red
MSM is, once again, about three months behind the curve. The prospects of the GOP Painting the Map Red have increased dramatically in just the past month.
After the Alito hearings and confirmation, prior to the resolution of the impasse over the selection of the prime minister in Iraq, during the run-up to and immediate aftermath of the election of the new House majority leader, and right through the first immigration debate in the Senate over McCain-Kennedy, there was in fact a moment or two when it seemed like the GOP base might just quit the game.
But with the rejection of the immigration approach favored by the Democrats and the mavericks, the appearance of some fiscal discipline among some senators, the slow but certain march towards the confirmation of future Judges Kavanaugh, Boyle, Haynes etc, the word that the White House will be back in the judicial nominations business very soon, and –most of all– the return of the war to the public’s consciousness because of Iran’s manifest aggressiveness on nukes and Israel and undeniable threats in Central and South America, suddenly the election if framed –again— as a choice between the serious though flawed party of victory, growth, and border security and the party of surrender, to both the jihadists abroad and the demands for amnesty now and again in the future at home.
There are undeniable signs of GOP renewal, in Senate races in Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Washington State, Montana and Missouri –and perhaps next week in Florida– as well as great candidates for governor in Blackwell in Ohio and Swann in Pennsyvlania. As Michael Barone has argued, the GOP voters just seem to keep turning out, despite their grumbling. But, conservatives and unhappy and impatient.
Flap agrees that prospects will look better if the President supports ertain ideals. Hugh Hewitt says:
Win the war.
Confirm the judges.
Cut the taxes.
Control the spending.
Secure the border.Flap would put them in this order for Californians:
1. SUPPORT increased Border Security with Mexico and get off the “Path to Citizenship†Bull. No Amnesty for illegal aliens.
2. Fight for Conservative judges to the District and Court of Appeals – and get them confirmed.
3. Fight for permanent tax cuts and get legislation signed.
4. Wind down the War in Iraq and bring troops home.
5. Veto excess spending bills and tell the Congress to tighten the belt.
And Flap agrees with Hugh about donating to the following campaigns:
Rick Santorum in Pennsylvannia
So, get over there and contribute.
All is not lost but our inaction.

Plamegate Watch: Valerie Plame Cashes IN
Joe Wilson and Valerie Plame
New York Times: Book Deal for Ex-C.I.A. Officer
Valerie Wilson, the former Central Intelligence Agency officer whose identity was publicly disclosed three years ago, has agreed to sell her memoir for a little more than $2.5 million, according to people involved in the bidding process for the book.
The book, whose working title is “Fair Game,” is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2007 by Crown Publishing, an imprint of Random House. Steve Ross, senior vice president and publisher of Crown, said the book would be Ms. Wilson’s “first airing of her actual role in the American intelligence community, as well as the prominence of her role in the lead-up to the war.”
Ms. Wilson, he added, “has been this mysterious woman at the very eye of a major storm, and the concentric circles keep widening.”
Ms. Wilson’s name first appeared in a column by Robert D. Novak, the syndicated columnist, in 2003, spawning a full-scale Washington scandal that ensnared several government officials and journalists. The special prosecutor assigned to the leak case, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, has already brought perjury and obstruction of justice charges against I. Lewis Libby, the former chief of staff for Vice President Dick Cheney, stemming from his investigation, and the inquiry continues. Karl Rove, the presidential adviser, recently testified before the grand jury in the case.
Joseph C. Wilson IV, Ms. Wilson’s husband and a former diplomat who was a critic of the Bush administration’s handling of intelligence in advance of the invasion of Iraq, called the leak a smear campaign by the White House in retaliation for his criticism. Mr. Wilson had gone to Niger to investigate whether Saddam Hussein’s regime had tried to buy uranium, but found no evidence that it had. His own book, “The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies That Led to War and Betrayed My Wife’s C.I.A. Identity” (Carroll & Graf), was published in 2004.
Well it is the American way? No?
But, don’t give Flap any crap on how the Bush Administration hurt Valerie Plame.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: Schwarzenegger Says Borders Are Vulnerable
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger , right, feels the spiked hair of sixth-grader Brandon Yackamouich, 12, during the governor’s visit to Wilson C. Riles Middle School in Roseville, Calif., Friday, May 5, 2006. Schwarzenegger toured the school, then talked with reporters about the state legislature’s passage early Friday of a series of bills that would place a record public works spending plan before voters in November.
Los Angeles Times: Gov. Says Borders Are Vulnerable
Schwarzenegger takes Congress and the White House to task for failing to enact an immigration strategy and says they are to blame for the protests.
In some of the harshest terms he has used to date, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday said the federal government has left the nation’s borders dangerously vulnerable while failing to come up with a sensible approach to immigration.
Schwarzenegger, taking questions at a news conference on a multibillion-dollar public works package passed by the Legislature early Friday, blamed the Bush administration and Congress for the massive street protests and widespread public unhappiness over federal immigration policy.
Election year bloviations from Arnold.
But, what has Governor Schwarzenegger done to secure the California-Mexico border?
Has he called out the National Guard to help the federal government in patrols? Did he support a California border police proposal?
How about a border wall/fence?
NO!
Arnold should remember the proverb about folks who live in glass houses.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran the Key to Jack Straw’s Ouster?
Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice holds a soccer jersey as she poses with Outgoing British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw in northern England, March 31, 2006. Rice called her close friend Straw on Friday after he was dumped from his key post, said a State Department spokesman.
The Guardian: Iran is the key to Jack Straw’s demotionHe said a military strike against Iran was inconceivable. His problem is that Tony Blair thinks differently.
The key to the demotion of Jack Straw from foreign secretary is Iran. Mr Straw for more than a year, in his favourite outlet the BBC Today programme or at various press conferences, said repeatedly a military strike on Iran was inconceivable.
Politicians always try to avoid boxing themselves in, but Straw did on this issue: if a military strike had become a serious option, he would have been forced to resign. He was reflecting the reality of British domestic politics. Against the background of the Iraq debacle, Mr Straw knew it would be difficult to win support for the military option in cabinet and that it would create even more upheaval among the membership of the already weakened Labour party. But, Jack Straw has been renown in his fraternization and apologetic policy towards the Mullahs. It is very conceivable that Tony Blair simply had enough of Straw’s misadventures towards his own political expedience.
The problem for Mr Straw is that Tony Blair does not view Iran the same way. He regards the threat posed by Iran as the most serious in the world today, and is even more messianic on the issue than George Bush. That does not mean that a military strike will happen but Mr Blair, like Mr Bush, thinks it is a good idea to keep the option on the table, if only to keep Iran guessing.Downing Street phoned the Foreign Office several times to ask Mr Straw to stop being so categoric in ruling out a military strike. And the White House also phoned Downing Street to ask why Mr Straw kept saying these things. And that was before Mr Straw dismissed as “nuts” the prospect of a tactical nuclear strike on Iran, an option that Mr Bush subsequently refused to remove from the table.
Flap can imagine the diplomatic traffic after Straw’s pronouncements. Flap covered Straw’s statements here.
Margaret Beckett inherits the Iran portfolio. One of her first jobs will be in New York on Monday where she will meet Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state with whom Mr Straw built up such a close relationship, and other counterparts to discuss Iran.
One of the first challenges she will face from the media is to confirm that a military strike is “inconceivable”. She is likely to say that a military strike is not being discussed and that she is focused on the diplomatic route. But will she say that a military strike is “inconceivable”?
More than likely, Beckett will avoid the hard questions and let the machinations in UNSC play out. The United States and Britain will put the squeeze on Russia and G-8 membership. China will be dealt with later after Russia is on board.
On other main issue that consumes the time of both the Foreign Office and Downing Street, Iraq, there is likely to be any significant change. There is nothing a foreign secretary can do about Iraq: its fate is in the hands of the new Iraqi government and the insurgents. Britain, like the US, is hoping it can begin to pull out troops before the end of the year.
Ms Rice went out of her way to establish a good relationship with Mr Straw, but she also had a good relationship while she was Mr Bush’s national security adviser with Sir David Manning, at the time Mr Blair’s foreign affairs adviser, with whom she spoke on a regular, almost daily, basis. There is no reason why Mrs Beckett cannot too establish a close working relationship.
President Bush will be winding down the Iraq War as the Taliban resurge in Afghanistan. This will reestablish the political will to take a hard line against Iran and their terrorist friends. Israel has a new government and is set to help.
While the UNSC plays out, Flap is positive WAR PLANS are being finalized and Britain will be an ally.
