North Korea Watch: Preparing to Launch A Long Range Ballistic Missile?
North Korean leader Kim Jong-il (2nd L) is seen alongside North Korean soldiers in North Korea, in this undated photo released by Korea News Service April 8, 2006. The United States is open to discussions with North Korea on a peace treaty at the same time as six-country talks on dismantling Pyongyang’s nuclear programs, a U.S. official said on Thursday.
Reuters: N.Korea may be preparing missile launch: reports
North Korea may be preparing to launch a long-range ballistic missile that could reach parts of the United States, Japanese media reports said on Friday, but Japan’s government said it did not believe a launch was imminent.
Quoting unidentified South Korean government officials, public broadcaster NHK said satellite pictures showed there had been signs since early this month around a site in northeastern North Korea that pointed to a possible firing in the near future.
Analysts have said, though, that development of a multiple-stage version of a ballistic missile that can take payloads deep into the continental United States is years away.
But, this is why President Reagan proposed the Strategic Defense Initiative or Star Wars in the 1980’s – now called the Missile Defense Agency.
The Missile Defense Agency website is here.
NHK said the missile appeared to be a Taepodong-2, which previous reports have said has a range of more than 4,200 miles , making it capable of hitting Alaska with a light payload.
Quoting Japanese government sources, Japan’s Kyodo news agency also said a launch could be imminent and the missile was probably a Taepodong-2.
A report in March by the California-based Center for Nonproliferation Studies, a nongovernmental organization, said North Korea did not have an operational missile that could hit the continental United States.
North Korea shocked the world in August 1998 when it fired a Taepodong missile that flew over Japan before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean.
Is this information of dis-information due to continuing on and off again negotiations with North Korea.
It is difficult to say.
But, the United States is preparing for missile defense in any event.
The latest reports come amid a deadlock in six-party talks aimed at dismantling North Korea’s nuclear programs, and ahead of a visit to China next week by the chief U.S. negotiator to the talks that involve the two Koreas, the United States, Japan, Russia and host China.
The United States said a missile launch could heighten worries over North Korea’s weapons and expose an unwillingness in Pyongyang to heed international concern over its military programs.
“If, in fact, North Korea did launch a long-range missile, it would be a real source of concern to the international community,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.
The concern would be over “what it says about North Korea and North Korea’s desire to engage with the rest of the world and to address some of the concerns that the rest of the world has had about their behavior,” he added.
North Korea has said in numerous official media reports that it is building a nuclear deterrent to counter U.S. hostility. The United States believes North Korea has one or two nuclear bombs and the ability to build more.
The United States said on Thursday that Washington was open to discussions with North Korea on a peace treaty at the same time as the six-party nuclear talks, but that Pyongyang must return to the negotiating table first.
North Korea has long demanded a peace treaty to replace the armistice that ended the 1950-53 Korean War.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Ahmadinejad – Holocaust Is a “MYTH” – But in Iran Wear A Yellow BADGE Anyway
***Scroll Down for Updates***
Michelle Malkin has IRAN WANTS TO BRING BACK BADGES
More.
1220pm EDT update: Report may not be true.255pm EDT: Allah investigates.
Now there is ASSociated Press: Iranian Lawmakers Debate Women’s Clothing
The measure has provoked concern outside Iran after a Canadian newspaper reported it included provisions that would require Jews, Christians, Zoroastrians and other non-Muslims to wear a patch of colored cloth on the front of their garments.
The National Post, quoting “Iranian expatriates living in Canada,” said the law would require “Iran’s roughly 25,000 Jews…to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.”
In Tehran, legislator Emad Afroogh, who sponsored the bill and chairs the parliament’s cultural committee, told The Associated Press on Friday there was no truth to the Canadian newspaper report.
“It’s a sheer lie. The rumors about this are worthless,” he said.
Afroogh said the bill seeks only to make women dress more conservatively and avoid Western fashions.
“The bill is not related to minorities. It is only about clothing,” he said. “Please tell them (in the West) to check the details of the bill. There is no mention of religious minorities and their clothing in the bill,” he said.
Iranian Jewish lawmaker Morris Motamed told the AP: “Such a plan has never been proposed or discussed in parliament. Such news, which appeared abroad, is an insult to religious minorities here.”
But, how did the Canadian press picjk up on the story?
And, on the other hand, Captain Ed has Teheran To Reimpose The Nuremberg Laws?
In an interesting twist, Canada.com has pulled the original story, although Amir Taheri’s article is stil available. If true, this will send shock waves around the world — and if not, Canada’s National Post may never live down the damage.
Perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call, a reminder that history repeats itself and that lunacy runs in patterns. If Iran decides to impose these conditions on its religious minorities despite their long integration into Iranian society –Zoroastrianism precedes Islam in Persia, after all — then we will have arrived at the same position as Europe in 1935. It took only three years for the Nazis to stage Krystallnacht as a ruse to excuse the roundup of Jews, the tactical tipping point for the industrialized atrocities that would follow. Ahmadinejad will not likely wait that long. For those who claim that the cosmopolitan nature and rich cultural history of the Iranians will never allow such actions to occur in the Islamic Republic, they should recall that the Germans were among the most cosmopolitan of Europeans — until the Nazis took control.
Hopefully this turns out to be a false report. If not, history has warned us of the consequences. We will have no excuse if the Iranians attempt purification under more extreme procedures after this.
Hugh Hewitt has an update: Did They Or Didn’t They?
The story on the proposed Iranian law is being disputed, and Canada’s National Post has posted a new story casting doubt on its own report from this morning.
Some senior officials in Israel did not wait for confirmation to react:and
Ophir Paz-Pines, minister-without-portfolio responsible for culture, sports, science and technology, who is also a member of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee in the Knesset, called on the government’s secretary to ensure the issue be immediately addressed during the next Cabinet meeting.”The State of Israel was created after the Holocaust in order to ensure it would not be repeated. The yellow star is a bright red warning sign that obligates us to muster the entire world in the face of events there [Iran].”
Canada.com: Iran eyes badges for Jews
Law would require non-Muslim insignia
Human rights groups are raising alarms over a new law passed by the Iranian parliament that would require the country’s Jews and Christians to wear coloured badges to identify them and other religious minorities as non-Muslims.
“This is reminiscent of the Holocaust,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier, the dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center in Los Angeles. “Iran is moving closer and closer to the ideology of the Nazis.”
Iranian expatriates living in Canada yesterday confirmed reports that the Iranian parliament, called the Islamic Majlis, passed a law this week setting a dress code for all Iranians, requiring them to wear almost identical “standard Islamic garments.”
The law, which must still be approved by Iran’s “Supreme Guide” Ali Khamenehi before being put into effect, also establishes special insignia to be worn by non-Muslims.
Iran’s roughly 25,000 Jews would have to sew a yellow strip of cloth on the front of their clothes, while Christians would wear red badges and Zoroastrians would be forced to wear blue cloth.
And you really want to FOOL AROUND with negotiating uranium enrichment with Ahmadinejad who says the Holocaust is a “HOAX” and says Israel should be “WIPED OFF THE MAP?”
And Hugh Hewitt weighs in with The Gathering Storm
And he agrees with Flap about the FOOLS who want to engage Iran when the Mullahs and Ahmadinejad REALLY don’t want to dance.

Illegal Immigration Watch: Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid Calls Senate Bill Amendment “RACIST”
Washington Times: Reid calls language proposal racist
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid called a proposal to make English the official language “racist” on the Senate floor yesterday.
“This amendment is racist. I think it’s directed basically to people who speak Spanish,” the Democrat said during the already tense debate over immigration reform.
Moments later, the Senate approved the measure on a 63-34 vote. Virtually all Republicans were joined by 11 Democrats to approve the largely symbolic amendment. Immediately following that vote, the Senate approved a second amendment, declaring on a 58-39 vote that English is the “common and unifying language.”
Such proposals enjoy overwhelming support among American voters.
A poll by Zogby International earlier this year found that 84 percent of Americans say English should be the official language of government operations. The same poll found that 77 percent of Hispanics agree
.
And it’s a bipartisan issue, according to the poll, which found that 92 percent of Republicans and 82 percent of Democrats approve making English the country’s official language.Mr. Reid’s charge of racism caused a stir of whispers in the Senate chamber and gallery, and Sen. James M. Inhofe, the Oklahoma Republican who offered the amendment, was clearly offended.
So, Senator Reid plays the “Hispanic Race Card” and gets called on it.
Learning English is a small sacrifice to be an American citizen.
Senator, you are way out of line!
Expose the Left has Reid: Making English The Official Language Is “Racistâ€Â
Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) went to the floor today to voice his opinion against the Inhofe amendment that would make English the official language of America. Reid said the “amendment is racist†and is directed to “people who speak Spanishâ€:
SENATOR HARRY REID: I have affection for my friend from Oklahoma, but I have the greatest disagreement with him on this amendment. While the intent may not be there, I really believe this amendment is racist. I think it’s directed basically to people who speak Spanish.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Ahamdinjead – “Suffering from Mental and Psychological Problems”
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad addresses the people of Arak, south of Tehran, May 17, 2006.
News24.com: ‘Our enemies are mentally ill’
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad poked fun at opponents of his country’s nuclear programme on Thursday, saying they had mental problems.
Speaking in the town of Zarandiyeh, central Iran, Ahmadinejad said: “Those who get sad at the progress and happiness of others are suffering from mental and psychological problems, so they should find a way to cure themselves.”
The United States and its European Union allies want Iran to end uranium enrichment activities as a guarantee it will not make atomic weapons.
Iran says it has right to nuclear technology and wants the fuel for producing electricity.
Since his election last year, the president has needled critics of Iran’s nuclear programme, raising tensions with the US and the EU.
“We do not have a fight with anyone, but we will not step back on our absolute rights,” said Ahmadinejad.
Flap thinks the only folks suffering from mental and psychological problems are the European diplomats who have been negotiating with this “MADMAN” and the Mullahs the past few years.
Can’t anyone recognize stalling tactics?
NOPE.
But, Ahmadinejad as delusional as he is, thinks the world supports him and the Mullahs.
Ahamdinejad said billions of people in the world support Iran’s right to nuclear technology.
“More than two billion people were happy and celebrated when they heard the news about Iran’s nuclear achievement,” said Ahmadinejad.
Britain, France and Germany plan to offer Iran a package of incentives to the country to freeze a uranium enrichment programme that the West suspects has military dimensions.
Ahmadinejad turned down the expected European incentives in return for halting uranium enrichment, saying it was like trading “candy for gold”.
The European offer will be discussed in detail at a meeting of senior EU, US, Russian and Chinese officials in London next week.
EU officials said security guarantees were the major sticking point in producing a credible package, including an offer to build a light-water nuclear reactor.
Stay tuned as the foolish Europeans attempt to craft a proposal that will be ridiculed in any case.
