Representative William Jefferson Watch: “There are Two Sides to Every Story”
Reuters: Jefferson says he’s innocent in bribery probe
A Democratic congressman facing a bribery probe after police found $90,000 in his freezer denied wrongdoing on Monday and said he would not step down from his congressional seat.
Speaking to reporters, Louisiana Rep. William Jefferson said he could not discuss details of the pending federal investigation.
“There are two sides to every story. There are certainly two sides to this story,” Jefferson said, adding, “This is not the time; this is not the forum” to discuss it.
Jefferson again declared his innocence and said, “I expect to continue to represent the people who sent me here.”
FBI investigators raided Jefferson’s office over the weekend and disclosed that they have videotaped the New Orleans lawmaker accepting $100,000 cash intended as a bribe for a Nigerian official.
The FBI also said in a court affidavit that they found $90,000 of that money hidden in a freezer in his house.
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, asked by reporters for justification for conducting the FBI search on Capitol Hill, said he could not discuss details of the investigation. But he added, “I will admit that these were unusual steps that were taken in response to an unusual set of circumstances.”
Former associates have said that Jefferson accepted more than $400,000 in bribes to help them sell telecommunications technology to Nigeria and other West African countries.
This MORON better resign and plead out this case. Otherwise he is cuddling with bubba in Club Fed for a long time
Maybe he can play the race card or the TIN FOIL card?

During Hurricane Katrina relief efforts Congressman Jefferson had two trucks, one helicopter, and several members of the national guard take a laptop, several suitcases, and a refridgerator type object out of his house.

Election 2006 Watch: Contribute to GOP Senate Campaigns? The Coming Electoral Loss and What to Do About It
U.S. President George W. Bush stands by U.S. Speaker of the House Rep. Dennis Hastert (L) (R-IL) as he is introduced to speak at the Arie Crown Theater in Chicago May 22, 2006. Bush spoke on a wide range of topics from the formation of a new government in Iraq to domestic issues such as immigration and healthcare.
Washington Post: Bush’s Base Betrayal
If conservatives accept the idea that we must support Republicans no matter what they do, we give up our bargaining position and any chance at getting things done. We’re like a union that agrees never to strike, no matter how badly its members are treated. Sometimes it is better to stand on principle and suffer a temporary defeat. If Ford had won in 1976, it’s unlikely Reagan ever would have been president. If the elder Bush had won in 1992, it’s unlikely the Republicans would have taken control of Congress in 1994.
At the very least, conservatives must stop funding the Republican National Committee and other party groups. (Let Big Business take care of that!) Instead, conservatives should dedicate their money and volunteer efforts toward conservative groups and conservative candidates. They should redirect their anger into building a third force — not a third party, but a movement independent of any party. They should lay the groundwork for a rebirth of the conservative movement and for the 2008 campaign, when, perhaps, a new generation of conservative leaders will step forward.
Flap will take it one step further. NOT ONE DIME NOR VOTE FOR ANY GOP CANDIDATE this Fall.
The GOP does not deserve re-election.
The Senate illegal immigraton bill and the GOP sellout was the last straw. The President’s refusal to enforce our borders and to protect us Americans is BULL.
Sure, the GOP will take its lumps in November but the leadership that has sold out the conservative base of the Republican Party will be gone.
Conservatives can then reclaim the GOP and move forward.

Iran Nuclear Watch: United States Moves To Establish Anti-Missile Site in Europe
From the Ronald W. Reagan Missile Defense Site, Vandenburg, California
AFP: US moves to establish anti-missile site in Europe
The United States is moving to establish a new anti-missile site in Europe designed to stop attacks by Iran against the US and its European allies.
The New York Times reported the administration’s proposal calls for installing 10 missile interceptors at a European site by 2011.
Poland and the Czech Republic are among the nations under consideration as possible sites, the report said.
The Czech Republic has received “no concrete proposal” from the US for locating an antimissile defence base on Czech soil, Ministry of Defence spokesman Andrej Cirtek told AFP.
“The location of this US anti-rocket base on the territory of some European state is just an idea, there is no concrete proposal,” he added.
A recommendation on a European site is expected to be made this summer to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, said the paper citing unnamed Pentagon officials.
Of course.
Did Ahmadinejad and the Iranian Mullahs REALLY think that the United States is negotiating from weakness?
Remember what President Reagan said in is farewell address: “It’s still trust but verify. It’s still play, but cut the cards. It’s still watch closely. And don’t be afraid to see what you see.”

Election 2006 Watch: Contribute to GOP Senate Campaigns? Senator Mike Dewine
Senate Intelligence Committee members, Sen. Mike DeWine, R-Ohio, right, and Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah take part in the committee’s confirmation hearing for CIA nominee Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden, Thursday, May 18, 2006 on Capitol Hill.
Hugh Hewitt seems to think that GOP Senator Mike DeWine merits support for re-election in Ohio.
Flap’s answer to Hewitt and DeWine is NO WAY.
Why?

Illegal Immigration Watch: Senate Bill Protects Employers of Illegal Aliens
Minuteman supporters Marshall Bryan (L) and Jan Smith march down Broadway during an anti-illegal immigration rally in Los Angeles, California May 21, 2006.
The Washington Times: Senate bill protects employers of illegal aliens from penalties
Among those who will be cleared of past crimes under the Senate’s proposed immigration-reform bill would be the businesses that have employed the estimated 10 million illegal aliens eligible for citizenship and that provided the very “magnet” that drew them here in the first place.
Buried in the more than 600 pages of legislation is a section titled “Employer Protections,” which states: “Employers of aliens applying for adjustment of status under this section shall not be subject to civil and criminal tax liability relating directly to the employment of such alien.”
Supporters of the legislation insist that such provisions do not amount to “amnesty.”
“The legislation we are considering today is not amnesty,” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Arlen Specter said last week. “That is a pejorative term, really a smear term used to denigrate the efforts at comprehensive immigration reform. This is not amnesty because amnesty means a pardon of those who have broken the law.”
Mr. Specter, Pennsylvania Republican, and others argue that the bill is not amnesty for illegal aliens because they will have to pay $2,000 in fines before they gain citizenship.
The law does not, however, provide for such fines against employers who have broken the law by hiring the illegals.Sen. Robert C. Byrd, West Virginia Democrat, vehemently opposes “this effort to waive the rules for lawbreakers and to legalize the unlawful actions of undocumented workers and the businesses that illegally employ them.”
Amnesties, he said, “are the dark underbelly of our immigration process.”
The Senate bill sponsored by GOP Senators Hagel nd Martinez is amnesty for illegal aliens and the “slavemaster” employers who hire them.
This bill is WRONG and should NOT pass.
Remember GOP not one DIME or VOTE until the United States borders are secure and illegal alien amnesty is DEFEATED.
Michelle Malkin has AMNESTY FOR ALL
How stupid of the Republican elite to put themselves on the opposite side and give the likes of Byrd such an opening. Message to Arlen Specter: What part of amnesty don’t you understand?
One GOP Senator with his head screwed on straight is Jeff Sessions. Can we have 100 of him, please?
