Associated Press: Grand jury declines to indict McKinney

A grand jury declined Friday to indict Rep. Cynthia McKinney in connection with a confrontation in which she admitted hitting a police officer who tried to stop her from entering a House office building.

The grand jury had been considering the case since shortly after the March 29 incident, which has led to much discussion on Capitol Hill about race and the conduct of lawmakers and the officers who protect them.

“We respect the decision of the grand jury in this difficult matter,” said U.S. Attorney Kenneth Wainstein.

His statement, released late Friday, also included support for the officer involved, Paul McKenna, and the Capitol Police. He said, “This is a tremendously difficult job, and it is one that Officer McKenna and his colleagues perform with the utmost professionalism and dignity.”

With that, Wainstein closed a case that has simmered with racial and political tension.

Well, O.J. Simpson was found NOT guilty as well.

How do you spell DOUBLE STANDARD?

If Flap or one of my readers had assaulted a Capitol Police Officer believe me there would have been an arrest, trial and sentence by now.

So, now, the question to ask is: Was the DOUBLE STANDARD that was applied to McKinney a result of her being:

A MEMBER OF CONGRESS

AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMAN

?

ANSWER: BOTH

McKinney dodged a bullet and will bear closer scrutiny.

In the meantime, who would want to work as a Capitol Police Officer?

irannukejune16ajpgweb1gg Iran Nuclear Watch: President Ahmadinejad Big 6 Proposal a Step Forward

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is seen against the backdrop of an Iranian flag during a press conference held in Shanghai, China Friday June 16, 2006. Ahmadinejad said Friday that the six-nation incentive package aimed at getting his country to halt uranium enrichment was a step forward in resolving the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.

Associated Press: Iran: Incentive package a ‘step forward’

Iran’s president said Friday that the six-nation incentive package aimed at getting his country to halt uranium enrichment was a “step forward” in resolving the dispute over Iran’s nuclear program.

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad also repeated assertions that the Nazi Holocaust was unproven, saying it should be independently investigated. The hardline president has previously dismissed the Holocaust as a “myth” and said Israel should be “wiped off the map,” provoking an international outcry and reinforcing Israel’s views that Iran is a serious threat to the Jewish state.

“An event that has influenced so many diplomatic and political equations of the world needs to investigated and researched by impartial and independent groups,” Ahmadinejad told reporters in Shanghai where he was attending a regional summit.

Ahmadinejad’s comments on the nuclear dispute were the highest-level sign that Iran was preparing to negotiate over the package of incentives offered by the Big Five of the
U.N. Security Council, plus Germany.

“Generally speaking, we’re regarding this offer as a step forward and I have instructed my colleagues to carefully consider it,” Ahmadinejad told reporters after meeting with Chinese President Hu Jintao.

irannukejune15eweb1eb Iran Nuclear Watch: President Ahmadinejad Big 6 Proposal a Step Forward

Iran ’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said the Islamic Republic will not bend to international pressure over its controversial nuclear program. World powers were united at the UN atomic agency in urging Iran to suspend uranium enrichment to show it does not seek atomic weapons, with the United States warning of Security Council action if Tehran fails to comply, diplomats said.

And yesterday?

Ahmadinejad’s statements are posturing and western media cycle play. The real power in Iran is concentrated in the Mullahs and they have said NO.

Look forward to back and forth doublespeak until the G-8 in mid-July.

Does anyone in the West REALLY expect Iran to say YES?

Doubtful……..

Stay tuned……..
