188882945 b95282e389 o Missile Defense Watch: Concept of Operations To Be Done by Fall

This time-exposure photo made available by the U.S. Department of Defense shows a test of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense system (THAAD), held in White Sands, NM, Wednesday, July 12, 2006. THAAD is designed to intercept and destroy short- to intermediate-range ballistic missiles high within the Earth’s atmosphere or just above the atmosphere in the final moments before it strikes its target.

Reuters: Missile defense plan seen ready by fall

The U.S. military hopes to complete work this fall on a plan mapping out how regional commanders will be able to use the fledgling U.S. missile defense system, a top general said on Tuesday.

Lt. Gen. Larry Dodgen, commander of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defend Command, told industry executives and congressional aides he expected the so-called “concept of operations” to be done by October or November.

He said it marked the first time the military had tried to draft such a plan for a specific capability across the military’s regional commands. (emphasis mine)

Well, the Missile Defense Agency and its programs are not fledgling in any sense of the word. Former President Bill Clinton and a Democrat controlled Congress delayed the program by cutting its budget but President George W. Bush has supported, revived and deployed missile defense for the United States. Read about the history of the Strategic Defense Initiative and National Missile Defense.

President Reagan Addresses the Nation from the oval office on National Security (Strategic Defense Initiative speech) March 23, 1983.

Dodgen hailed a recent successful test of a missile-shield component built by Lockheed Martin Corp. to shoot down a ballistic missile in the last minute or so of its flight.

The so-called Terminal High Altitude Area Defense weapon system, or THAAD, “exceeded its objectives” in the long-planned test at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, Lockheed said in a statement earlier this month.

Dodgen agreed, saying the THAAD missiles would “pay for themselves many times over.”

He also mentioned plans to deploy missile interceptors in Japan, and said officials were still weighing where to place interceptors in Europe.

And Flap remembers when the LEFTY critics laughed and ridiculed President Reagan for “Star Wars.” Where are those left-wing appeasement-minded MORONS today when these systems may indeed save the United States from a nuclear/chemical or biological attack or worse…….nuclear blackmail?

Stay tuned……

Former President Bill Clinton, left, and Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-Conn., laugh together during a rally in Waterbury, Conn., Monday, July 24, 2006. During his speech, Clinton appealed to Connecticut Democrats to send Lieberman to a new term in office. Lieberman is being challenged in a primary by Ned Lamont of Greenwich, Conn.

191085163 e9e40d37f6 o Israel at War Watch: Israel v. Iran What is at Stake?

David Frum at AEI has a piece, Iran’s Showdown with the West, outlining what is at stake in the current Israeli war with Hezbollah – Iran’s proxy.

Now see the stakes if Iran loses. If Hezbollah is destroyed as a military force, Iran loses its most potent weapon of attack and retaliation against the Western world.

Through the years of negotiating with Iran over its nuclear bomb program, the Iranians have repeatedly threatened: “If you should dare ever to strike our nuclear facilities, we will unleash a global Hezbollah terror campaign against oil in the Persian Gulf, against Israel, against Europe, against the United States!” No more Hezbollah means no more such terror threats.

When negotiations over the nuclear program resume, they will resume with the West powerfully strengthened and Iran visibly weakened by the failure of Iran’s own reckless aggression. This will be Israel’s achievement–and Israel’s latest gift to the peace of the world.

Yet, today, Iran continues to bloviate.

America has alot riding on the IDF. But, the war won today against Hezbollah may save the world from a nuclear conflagration in the future.

198200059 23387b0696 o Illegal Immigration Watch: A GOP Compromise Bill?

Supporters of immigration reform carry signs during a march through downtown Chicago July 19, 2006. Two Republican U.S. lawmakers on Tuesday offered a compromise immigration plan they said would ensure border security and allow some of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants to work legally in the United States without granting amnesty.

Reuters: Lawmakers offer immigration alternative

Two Republican U.S. lawmakers on Tuesday offered a compromise immigration plan they said would ensure border security and allow some of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants to work legally in the United States without granting amnesty.

Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (news, bio, voting record) and Indiana Rep. Mike Pence (news, bio, voting record) said they hoped their plan would jump start stalled negotiations between the Senate and House of Representatives. The two chambers have passed vastly different immigration bills and it is increasingly unlikely the two sides will bridge differences ahead of the November congressional elections.

“We believe that this Congress must come together and find a way forward, and we hope this idea can be that way forward,” Pence said at a news conference with Hutchison.

The American people want their borders SECURED first and foremost.

This is a NON-STARTER……besides GOP candidates do best when they run against President Bush’s immigration policies (i.e. the Senate Bill).

198188620 a1129e2945 o California Election 2006 Watch: California GOP Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Leads California Democrat Treasurer Phil Angelides by 8 Points in Latest Field Poll

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger waves to a crowd as he exits his campaign bus to begin a tour of Southern California Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in La Mesa, Calif.

Sacramento Bee: Budget, ads give governor poll boost

Buoyed by recent good news, he leads Democrat Angelides by 8 points.

After signing the state’s timeliest budget in six years and running $12 million in post-primary campaign ads, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger leads Democrat Phil Angelides by 8 points in the governor’s race, according to a new Field Poll.

The findings contain additional good news for the Republican incumbent: More voters believe California is headed in the right direction than the wrong direction for the first time in 22 months, while Schwarzenegger has his first positive job approval rating since February 2005.

The “FAT LADY” has sung for Phil Angelides.
