Representative John Dingell Watch: You’re NOT Against Hezbollah? REDUX

    dingellaugust1bweb

    Representative John Dingell, D- Michigan

Flap has this piece on Representative John Dingell’s audio clip on YouTube regarding Dingell’s ambivalence, might you say, about supporting democratically governed Israel over Hezbollah, a non-state terrorist organization. The clip is here or here.

    Now, Powerline blog has Dingellbats

Yesterday John posted a link to video clip of Democratic Rep. John Dingell on YouTube and posted the audio of the clip here. John accurately quoted Dingell as follows:

“I don’t take sides for or against Hezbollah; I don’t take sides for or against Israel.” Asked, “You’re not against Hezbollah?” Dingell answers, “No…”

ThinkProgress has posted a longer video clip and points out that Dingell continues his last answer:

No, I happen to be—I happen to be against violence, I think the United States has to bring resolution to this matter. Now, I condemn Hezbollah as does everybody else, for the violence.

The exchange occurs in the context of questioning on Dingell’s vote against House Resolution 921 supporting Israel and condemning Hezbollah that I commented on here; Dingell was one of the seven Democratic “no” votes on the resolution. Here’s the exchange in full as quoted by ThinkProgress:

DINGELL: First of all, our problem is that we must be a fair and honest broker and a friend to all parties. The resolution didn’t make us that. We have to have the trust of both of the people of Israel and the people of the Arab countries around it, in order to help resolve the problem. If we don’t, the possibilities of regional war, calamitous situation with regard to Israel which has 5 million people amidst a billion and a half Arabs are a real potential for calamity. Having said at that, what we have to do is to see to it that finally we begin to address the problems that exist to abate the difficulties that are preventing a–a honest solution to the problem and a negotiated end. It takes–it takes a lot of work to get the trust that it takes to do this. The resolution did not instill that kind of trust and the end result would be quite frankly, the real solution to the problems that exist in the middle east would probably have been and probably will be put off.ANCHOR: Overall majority of your colleagues didn’t see it that way and some would suggest that if–even though there are obviously a lot of issues with Lebanon and with Palestinian cause wrapped up in this, that this largely boils down to israel against Hezbollah and Hezbollah is a group that the United States has deemed a terrorist organization, that there’s only one side for the Americans to come down on in this fight.

DINGELL: Well, we don’t, first of all, I don’t take sides for or against Hezbollah or for or against Israel.

    ANCHOR: You’re not against Hezbollah?

DINGELL: No, I happen to be—I happen to be against violence, I think the United States has to bring resolution to this matter. Now, I condemn Hezbollah as does everybody else, for the violence, but I think if we’ve got to talk to them and if we don’t — if we don’t get ourselves in a position where we can talk to both sides and bring both sides together, the killing and the blood let is going to continue.

    ThinkProgress comments:

Dingell was arguing that the United States should seek to maintain its historic role as an “honest broker” in the Middle East. There are legitimate criticisms of this position, but they should be based on Dingell’s actual views, not a dishonest caricature.

Scott Johnson of Powerline blog concludes:

If I have this right, Dingell’s “actual view” is that the United States should be a friend of Hezbollah, though he condemns the organization for its “violence” even if he does not quite deem it a terrorist group. In other words, according to Rep. Dingell, the United States should serve as an “honest broker” between a murderer and the murderer’s intended victim. Thanks to ThinkProgress for introducing the nuance necessary to appreciate Rep. Dingell’s true view fully.

And at the end of this Flap, the conclusion remains, Dingell is an apologist for Hezbollah and does NOT support Israel.

Dingell is an old-time lefty who should have been retired long ago. Flap asks Representative Dingell again:

What about the Beirut bombing of United States Marines by Hezbollah? And…..the other Americans murdered by Hezbollah?:

    William Rich Higgins

    Robert Dean Stethem

    William Francis Buckley

    Honor the 241

    Most wanted Hez: Imad Mugniyah

Dingell is scum-bag LEFTY MORON! trying to cover his tracks……and fast…….

Cox & Forkum: The Qana Massacre

Washington Post: ‘Disproportionate’ in What Moral Universe?

In perhaps the most blatant terror campaign from the air since the London Blitz, Hezbollah is raining rockets on Israeli cities and villages. These rockets are packed with ball bearings that can penetrate automobiles and shred human flesh. They are meant to kill and maim. And they do.

But it is a dual campaign. Israeli innocents must die in order for Israel to be terrorized. But Lebanese innocents must also die in order for Israel to be demonized, which is why Hezbollah hides its fighters, its rockets, its launchers, its entire infrastructure among civilians. Creating human shields is a war crime. It is also a Hezbollah specialty.

So, the international media condemns Israel in fighting an enemy that cowardly blends with Lebanese civilians. A double standard or disproprionate bias against Israel.

    You betcha…….

Wait until Israel wins……Oh the Outcry……..Oh the Humanity……

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad REJECTS United Nations Security Council Resolution

    irannukeaugust1bweb

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, pictured, has vowed that Iran would not bow to “the language of force and threats”, a day after the UN Security Council ordered it to freeze sensitive nuclear work by the end of the month.

AP: Iran’s president rejects U.N. resolution

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Tuesday rejected a U.N. Security Council resolution that would give his nation until Aug. 31 to suspend uranium enrichment. Instead, Ahmadinejad insisted Tehran would pursue its nuclear program.

“My words are the words of the Iranian nation. Throughout Iran, there is one slogan: ‘The Iranian nation considers the peaceful use of nuclear fuel production technology its right,'” Ahmadinejad said.

This is consistent with what Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs have maintained all along. So, has the EU and P-5-Plus-1 negotiations with Iran be fruitful.

NO WAY – A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME

    irannukeaugust1ajpgweb

A general view of Bushehr nuclear power plant at the Iranian Persian Gulf port of Bushehr, 1200 kms south of Tehran in February 2006. Iran reacted angrily to a UN Security Council resolution ordering it to freeze sensitive nuclear work by the end of the month, one top official branding the text as “worthless”

The Security Council passed a resolution Monday calling for Iran to suspend uranium enrichment by the end of August or face the threat of economic and diplomatic sanctions.

Ahmadinejad said Iran will not give in to threats from the United Nations.

“If some think they can still speak with threatening language to the Iranian nation, they must know that they are badly mistaken,” he said in a speech broadcast live on state-run television.

The United Nations Security council will NOW wait until August 22 when Iran has promised to respond to the P-5-Plus-1 proposal (discounting Iranian bloviations that it was already rejected). One week later the UNSC deadline looms. Then, the debate on UNSC sanctions.

Flap handicaps NO substantial UNSC on Iran – EVER. Russia and China will veto any harsh measures and the EU is too afraid of an Arab oil embargo.

The decision will be left to the United States and Israel: Impose non-UNSC sanctions on those nations trading with Iran, military action or simply live with an eventual nuclear Iran and deter them like other nuclear powers.

    Stay tuned……

Representative John Dingell Watch: You’re NOT Against Hezbollah?

    dingellaugust1cweb

    Representative John Dingell, D- Michigan

Powerline: Dingell: What’s Wrong With Hezbollah?

Yesterday, Representative John Dingell of Michigan appeared on a Detroit television program along with Republican Candice Miller. They discussed the crisis in Lebanon; Dingell proclaimed himself neutral. “I don’t take sides for or against Hezbollah; I don’t take sides for or against Israel.” Asked, “You’re not against Hezbollah?” Dingell answers, “No…”

Listen to Representative Dingell’s comments for yourself:

    or go here.

This old lefty should have been retired out of the Congress years ago.

Should the Democrats regain the majority in the House this November, Dingell would become Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

And…..Dingell was one of the eight Democrats (there were NO Republicans, except for Dr. No – Ron Paul –  who is really a Libertarian) that did NOT vote for a Congressional resolution supporting Israel in its war with Hezbollah.

Representative Dingell, don’t you remember what Hezbollah did to the United States Marines in Lebanon?

Representative Cynthia McKinney Watch: Debate With Hank Johnson Brings Personal Attacks

    mckinneyaugust1aweb

Georgia 4th Congressional District Democratic candidate Rep. Cynthia McKinney, right, speaks to Hank Johnson, left, during a runoff debate on the set of Georgia Public Television, Monday, July 31, 2006, in Atlanta. The candidates assembled for a live debate in front of an audience, at the GPTV studios as part of the Atlanta Press Club 2006 debate series.

AJC: McKinney, Johnson clash over finances, donors

In their first face-to-face televised debate, U.S. Rep. Cynthia McKinney and Hank Johnson, the local politician who forced her into Democratic runoff, traded verbal jabs Monday on her voting record and his past financial problems.

McKinney pounced on Johnson’s past debts, including a bankruptcy and overdue taxes, which the inumbent highlights in a new 60-second radio ad. The spot also accuses Johnson of ethical violations while he was a DeKalb County commissioner, claiming he accepted a $1,000 campaign contribution from landfill developers.

Ahhh, the politics of personal destruction…….

McKinney has taken the offensive against Hank Johnson by painting him with the corruption brush and steering the campaign away from her extremist stance on the issues and her own personal problems.

    mckinneyaugust1cweb

Rep. Cynthia McKinney, echoing a new radio ad from her campaign, highlighted her opponent’s financial problems during their debate Monday night.

“Was it sound judgment when you took money from landfill developers at a time when landfill issues were before your commission?” McKinney asked during the half-hour debate on Georgia Public Broadcasting. “Was it sound judgment when you didn’t pay federal taxes over several years, resulting in federal tax liens? Was it sound judgment when you refused to pay multiple debts, resulting in lawsuits and garnishments against you?”

    And Johnson responded:

Johnson acknowledged that he had financial problems involving nonpayment of taxes and had filed for bankruptcy several years ago, but he repeatedly denied taking money from landfill operators. He challenged McKinney’s motives for bringing up his past problems as a campaign issue.

“This allegation was just simply a desperate attempt by a desperate candidate to try to inflict some personal damage on this candidacy,” Johnson said. “Quite frankly, it was the politics of personal destruction. And in addition to that, she’s been the candidate of polarization and divisiveness.”

Will McKinney be able to surmount her own personal problems and win re-election?

    Perhaps…..
