San Diego Union-Tribune: State Senate leader: ‘You’ve got all these crackers down in San Diego’

Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata Thursday discussed the difficult political climate surrounding illegal immigration and as an example said “You’ve got all these crackers … down in San Diego.”

At a briefing with reporters, the Oakland Democrat was asked about the prospects of pending legislation to grant driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants. Though a similar bill has passed the Legislature before – only to be vetoed – Perata said he was cautious about moving the current bill to the governor’s desk in an election year.

“Immigration is a red meat issue,” he said. “You’ve got all these crackers down in Southern Cal – ah, where is it, San Diego, taking on the governor. Even the governor was shocked.”

The Senate leader was referring to a town hall-style event the governor held in La Mesa last week as he kicked off a Southern California bus tour. The governor was confronted by several angry people in the audience who accused Schwarzenegger of being soft on illegal immigration because he favors comprehensive federal legislation that includes a guest-worker program and path to citizenship for many people here illegally.

And the term “CRACKER” what does it mean?

Historically the word suggested poor, white rural Americans with little formal education.

Usage of the term “cracker” generally differs from “hick” and “hillbilly” because crackers reject or resist assimilation into the dominant culture, while hicks and hillbillies theoretically are isolated from the dominant culture. In this way, the cracker is similar to the redneck. In the African American community, “cracker” is a disparaging term for whites. (The OED cites the 1830s origin of white trash as a word used by slaves on rich plantations to ridicule poor whites.)

Oh, a disparaging term for whites. You mean like this:

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger puts his arm around a woman who confronted him during his campaign bus tour Tuesday, July 25, 2006, in La Mesa, Calif. The woman would only identify herself as Kelly.

Later Perata’s office offer a clarification but NOT an apology.

“Next time I come to Sacramento in August I’ll be sure to run the air conditioner,” Perata said in a statement.

“I want to clarify something I said earlier today. While I am concerned about the coarse and divisive tone used by a small minority in the driver’s license debate, I believe that the vast majority on both sides are people of good will.”

Right……

JPost: Iran: We supplied Zelzal-2 to Hizbullah

Iran admitted for the first time on Friday that it did indeed supply long-range Zelzal-2 missiles to Hizbullah.

Secretary-general of the “Intifada conference” Mohtashami Pur told an Iranian newspaper that Iran transferred the missiles so that they could be used to defend Lebanon, Channel 1 reported.

The extent of Iran’s intimate involvement in Hizbullah attacks is starting to emerge.

According to the defense establishment, the reason Hizbullah has not fired long-range Iranian-made Fajr missiles at Israel is due to Teheran’s opposition. Israel now understands that without direct orders from the ayatollahs, Hizbullah is not allowed to use Iranian missiles in attacks against Israel.

Israel and the world community KNOWS that Iran has been militarily supplying Hezbollah. This is NO secret. But, until now the government of Iran has NOT admitted it. Even yesterday President Ahmadinejad dened Iran was contributing anything to Hezbollah other than moral support.

Everyone in the world knows that the Iranian Mullahs and Ahmadinejad are LIARS.

So, why is this announcement/revelation important?

It gives Israel diplomatic cover (if Hezbollah fires missiles deep into Israel) to strike at Iran e.g. the Natanz uranium enrichment facility.

Why is Iran waiting?

NO COJONES

Because they know they would be hit by Israel’s Air Force and HIT HARD.

The IDF also believes that it seriously damaged the long-range rocket array in the first night of air strikes almost three weeks ago and impaired Hizbullah’s ability to fire the rockets.

The longer-range Zelzal missiles, manufactured by Iran and capable of reaching Tel Aviv, have also not been fired at Israel, and the IDF believes this is because it destroyed almost two-thirds of these in the Hizbullah arsenal.

Perhaps the IDF has destroyed the majority of their Zelzal-2 rockets. More likely, Iran is afraid of the might of the Israeli Air Force.

Washington Times: Lieberman rival owns stock in Wal-Mart

Connecticut millionaire businessman Ned Lamont, who sharply criticized the employment practices of Wal-Mart this week in his campaign to unseat Sen. Joe Lieberman in the Democrat primary, owns stock in the company, Senate records reveal.

“This is about waking up Wal-Mart, and this is also about waking up corporate America,” Mr. Lamont said Wednesday at a Bridgeport rally against the retail giant, hosted by many of the same liberal bloggers who have boosted the former cable executive far ahead of Mr. Lieberman in the polls.

But Mr. Lamont and his family are part owners of the company, according to financial disclosure records he filed earlier this year with the secretary of the Senate. Mr. Lamont, his wife and a dependent child own as much as $31,000 in Wal-Mart stock.

Well, how do you spell HYPOCRITE?

Especially since Lamont earns how much a year in dividends from his ownership of Wal-Mart stock?

Mr. Lamont and his wife jointly own two accounts containing as much as $16,000 in Wal-Mart stock. Their Wal-Mart holdings spin off as much as $3,500 in annual dividends. In addition, a trust fund he set up for one of his children contains as much as $15,000 in Wal-Mart stock and spins off as much as $1,000 in dividends.

But, Ned wants to be true to his Lefty NUTTER Netroots so out come the attacks on Wal-Mart and Joe Lieberman for accepting but then returning a $1,000 Wal-Mart PAC contribution.

But, how HYPOCRITICAL do you ask?

The Wal-Mart folks have this to say:

“These candidates have shopped at Wal-Mart, invested in Wal-Mart and welcomed Wal-Mart jobs,” said Kevin Sheridan, spokesman for Working Families for Wal-Mart. “Now they’re telling the working men and women they want to represent that they can’t save money or take jobs at Wal-Mart? This is all about politics. And it’s sad.”

Sad, but typical…….

Oh yes, you ask….Ned Lamont recently resigned from his mostly white and patrician club, Greenwich Country Club. Lamont said he quit because it was too white and too rich and he did not want it to become a campaign issue.

Yet, he now campaigns with Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Hypocritical, you ask?

You betcha……

The Democrats in Connecticut may be too amored with fresh-faced Ned and may elect him next Tuesday but beating Joe Lieberman in November WILL be another story.
