FoxNews: Terror Plot Suspects Planned ‘Dry-Run’ of Attacks in Next 2 Days, Sources Say.

Suspects arrested Thursday for planning to stage a massive mid-air terror attacked were in the final stages of planning and planned to run a dry-run of the plan within two days, U.S. intelligence officers said Thursday.

One official said the suicide attackers planned to use a peroxide-based solution that could ignite when sparked by a camera flash or another electronic device.

The test run was designed to see whether the plotters would be able to smuggle the needed materials aboard the planes, these officials said. They spoke only on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject matter.

The development came as British authorities said they were “urgently” seeking the arrests of up to 10 more suspects in the terrorist plot uncovered early Thursday morning to blow up U.S.-bound flights with liquid explosives carried onto planes via carry-on luggage, FOX News learned.

Police arrested 24 main suspects were arrested earlier Thursday, according to Scotland Yard, in what U.S. officials suspect was an Al Qaeda-planned attack.

Global War on Terror Watch: 10 Airplanes Within Two Days of Terrorist Plan Execution

    heathrowaugust10cweb

Airplanes sit at stands at terminal five at Heathrow Airport in London, Thursday Aug. 10, 2006. British authorities thwarted a terrorist plot to blow up several aircraft in flight between the United States and the United Kingdom using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, officials said Thursday.

AP: British: Thwarted plot involved 10 jets

British authorities said Thursday they thwarted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up 10 aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, averting what police described as “mass murder on an unimaginable scale.”

Police arrested 24 people, saying they were confident they captured the main suspects in what U.S. officials said was a plot in its final phases that had all the earmarks of an al-Qaida operation. However, ABC News quoted unidentified U.S. officials who had been briefed on the plot as saying five suspects were still at large and being urgently hunted.

And these scum were a few days away from executing their plan.

What no outcry from the Dims today on privacy rights and the NSA?

Senator Joe Lieberman Watch: Karl Rove Called Lieberman On Primary Election Day To Wish Him Well

    liebermanaugust10fweb

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove (C) talks to Rev. Al Sharpton (R) and Rev. Jesse Jackson at a signing ceremony for H.R. 9, the Fannie Lou Hamer, Rosa Parks, and Coretta Scott King Voting Rights Act Reauthorization and Amendments Act of 2006 on the South Lawn at the White House in Washington, July 27, 2006.

Reuters: Rove called Lieberman on voting day

Karl Rove, a top political adviser to President Bush said on Thursday he had called Sen. Joseph Lieberman to wish him well in the Democratic primary in Connecticut this week.

Top Republicans, including Vice President Dick Cheney, have taken the unusual step of publicly commenting on the results of the Democratic primary that Lieberman lost on Tuesday to an anti-war challenger.

“I called him. He’s a personal friend,” Rove told reporters traveling with Bush to Wisconsin. The call was made late Tuesday afternoon, the day of the primary won by challenger Ned Lamont, who painted Lieberman as too cozy with Bush.

Rove said he called Lieberman “and wished him well on his election that night,” and that reports he had offered to help the senator were “completely inaccurate.”

Now, how badly does the White House want Ned Lamont to win?

The Kossaks, etc. must be going wild and Allah says he will have a round-up of reactions later.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Rejects “ILLEGAL International Obligations” of the United Nations Security Council

    irannukeaugust10aweb

In this image made available by CBS News, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, right, talks to American reporter Mike Wallace at the Presidential Palace in Tehran Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006 for a ’60 Minutes’ report to be broadcast Aug. 13. Twenty-seven years after a chilling sit-down with Ayatollah Khomeini that was one of Wallace’s most memorable, the CBS newsman snagged an interview this week with current Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in Tehran.

AFP: Iran rejects ‘illegal’ nuclear demands

Iran has again rejected an end-of-the-month UN Security Council deadline to suspend sensitive nuclear fuel work saying it would not accept “illegal international obligations”.

“We will continue our nuclear activities and do not accept illegal international obligations,” Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was quoted as saying by state television Thursday.

“We will not retreat from the nation’s rights under any circumstances and our diplomacy is based on protecting national interests,” Mottaki added.

The UN Security Council has given Iran until August 31 to halt enrichment and reprocessing activities or face possible sanctions.

Well, if anything, Iran continues to be consistent. Iran has rejected the United Nations Security Council deadline of August 31 to halt uranium enrichment.

And Iran has set August 22 as the date on which they will turn down reply to the P-5-Plus-1 proposal.

But, does Iran, the master of the Western media cycle, have nay incentive to do any more?

NOPE – especially when you get fawning interviewers like Mike Wallace.

Of Ahmadinejad, Wallace said, “He’s an impressive fellow, this guy. He really is. He’s obviously smart as hell.”

Wallace said he was surprised to find that the Iranian president was still a college professor who taught a graduate-level course.

“You’ll find him an interesting man,” he said. “I expected more of a firebrand. I don’t think he has the slightest doubt about how he feels … about the American administration and the Zionist state. He comes across as more rational than I had expected.”

    And…..

“He’s actually, in a strange way, he’s a rather attractive man, very smart, savvy, self-assured, good looking in a strange way,” Wallace said. “He’s very, very short but he’s comfortable in his own skin.”

Why Mahmoud is just one of the boys……who covets nuclear weapons.

The Mullahs and Ahmadinejad must be laughing their ASSES off at Wallace and CBS News.

Senator Joe Lieberman Watch: Lieberman Kicks Off Independent Campaign

    liebermanaugust10ajpgweb

U.S. Sen. Joseph Lieberman, D-CT, talks to reporters in his Hartford, Conn., suite Wednesday afternoon Aug. 9, 2006. Lieberman was defeated by Ned Lamont for the party’s nomination Tuesday night.

AP: Lieberman kicks off go-it-alone campaign

Stripped of support from the Democratic Party and working with a new campaign staff, Sen.
Joe Lieberman kicked off his independent bid for re-election Thursday with a visit planned to this gritty city that last year re-elected a mayor who lost his party’s primary.

Lieberman’s late-morning visit to a Waterbury pizza joint — his first public appearance since losing Tuesday’s primary and his first since dismissing his campaign staff — was to thank Waterbury for its fervent support during the primary. Lieberman won 60 percent of the vote here in his narrow loss to anti-war candidate Ned Lamont.

But it’s also notable because Waterbury last year re-elected a mayor, Michael Jarjura, who lost his Democratic primary but won the general election in a write-in campaign.

In the meantime, the Leftie NUTTERS who defeated Lieberman are whining. Arianna and MarKOS want to pressure Lieberman into withdrawing from the race, so he will not beat up on their lackey, Ned Lamont.

Markos Moulitsas “Screw Them” Zuniga and David Sirota even suggest stripping Lieberman of his Senate Committee assignments.

But, will Lieberman bow to calls of his betrayal of the Democrat Party?

    Doubtful…..

Ned Lamont may actually have to develop a platform – something other than Bush LIED and BDS…..

Anyone hear that John McCain was going to Connecticut to campaign for Lieberman?

    Stay tuned………

Global War on Terror Watch: Heathrow Airplane Bomb Plot Thwarted by British Police

    heathrowaugust10aweb

Police vehicles and dogs arrive at Terminal 4 at Heathrow Airport, in London, Thursday Aug. 10, 2006. British authorities thwarted a terrorist plot to blow up several aircraft in flight between the United States and the United Kingdom using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, officials said Thursday.

AP: British police thwart aircraft bomb plot

British authorities said Thursday they had thwarted a terrorist plot to simultaneously blow up several aircraft heading to the U.S. using explosives smuggled in hand luggage, averting what police described as “mass murder on an unimaginable scale.”

Officials raised security to its highest level in Britain — suggesting a terrorist attack might be imminent — and banned hand-carried luggage on all trans-Atlantic flights. Huge crowds formed at security barriers at London’s Heathrow airport as officials searching for explosives barred nearly every form of liquid outside of baby formula.

The extreme measures at one of the major international aviation hubs sent ripple effects throughout the world. Heathrow airport was closed to most flights from Europe.

The U.S. government responded by raising its threat alert to its highest level for commercial flights from Britain to the United States amid fears the plot had not been completely crushed. The alert for all flights coming or going from the United States was also raised slightly.

In Washington, two U.S. counterterrorism officials said the terrorists had targeted United, American and Continental airlines. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

Police arrested 21 people in London, its suburbs and in Birmingham as part of a major covert counterterrorism operation that had lasted several months, Deputy Commissioner Paul Stephenson said. Searches continued in a number of locations.

The following blogs have been following the overnight events:

Searches continue at this hour in London after the arrest of 21 suspects. Here is the statement by the Homeland Security Department on the increased threat level. All commentary points to the similarity to the failed Al Qaeda Bojinka plot in 1995 to blow up airliners, and Fox News reports that Al Qaeda is indeed suspected as the perpetrators in this plot.
