Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Military Exercises to Test Asymmetrical Warfare Combat Doctrine
Iranian dignitaries watch naval manoeuvres taking place in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman April 6, 2006. Iran says the war games in the Gulf, which began on March 31, are a show of defensive strength, but analysts say the timing during a nuclear standoff with the West offers a reminder that Iran could threaten a vital world oil shipping route.
World Tribune: Iran exercise to refine combat doctrine tested in Lebanon
Iran is set to launch a new round of military exercises in an effort to test its new combat doctrine using weapons systems which were apparently tested in the recent war in Lebanon.
Over the last two years, Iran has been testing a combat doctrine based on asymmetrical warfare.
The doctrine was said to include the use of small and mobile land and sea forces to erode a much larger Western military.n April, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps held a week-long military exercise that tested a series of anti-tank, anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles.
Some of those weapons were believed to have been tested in the Hizbullah war with Israel, which ended on Aug. 14. Iran has acknowledged that it trained and equipped Hizbullah.
Why is Iran putting on these military exercises?
Remember the two deadlines that are pending?
August 22: P-5-Plus-1 Proposal response
August 31: United Nations Security Council Demand to Halt Uranium enrichment
This is NOT a threat to the West but a PROMISE.
The promise: Sanction Iran and Iran will disrupt the flow of oil to the West – “The Oil Card.”
The Iranian military said several large-scale exercises would begin on Aug. 19 in the southeast. The military said the exercises would consist of several stages and introduce an unspecified defense doctrine meant to counter a U.S. strike.
“The maneuvers are aimed at introducing Iran’s new defensive doctrine,” military spokesman Gen. Mohammad Reza Ashtiani said on Thursday.
Not really a new defense doctrine – just close the Persian Gulf to oil tankers.
Ashtiani said the exercises would begin near the Afghan border and move throughout Iran. He said no date has been set for the end of maneuvers. “It will continue in the whole of Iran, stage by stage, for an unspecified period,” Ashtiani said in statements to the state-run Iranian media. “We have to be prepared against any threat, and we should be a role model for other countries.”
The military termed the exercise Operation Blow of Zolfaghar,” a reference to the sword of Imam Ali, the inspiration for the Shi’ite religion. In the first stage, the exercise would consist of 12 infantry battalions backed by air and armored forces.
The military announcement marked a resumption of large-scale exercises by the Islamic republic. “Our army is ready to defuse all plots against Islamic republic of Iran,” Ashtiani said.
“Human forces can decide the fate of a war,” Ashtiani said. “We saw it in Lebanon.”Iran IS planning to say NO to the P-5, plus Germany and the United Nations Security Council.
Is this a surprise?
The question to the United States and Israel:
Has the “POINT OF NO RETURN” with regards to Iran’s nuclear program been reached?
Is it time to ACT?
Stay tuned……

California Election 2006 Watch: Schwarzenegger Hears Rumbles From the RIGHT?
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) joined by former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (L) speaks at a news conference in Santa Monica, California August 17, 2006 urging California voters to support Proposition 83, Jessicas Law on the November 2006 ballot. Proposition 83 calls for electronically monitoring sex offenders for life via a GPS system as well as allowing prosecutors to charge criminals who posses child pornography with a felony.
Los Angeles Times: Schwarzenegger Hears Rumbles From the Right
Conservatives see some of the governor’s stands as liberal. If too few vote, his reelection could be threatened.
The above is only wishful thinking on the part of the lefty editors of the Los Angeles Times. Let’s explore this story the substance of which which Flap discussed many weeks ago here.
With the vote on his reelection just over 12 weeks away, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger faces a wave of conservative unrest that threatens the steady political recovery he has made this year by widening his appeal beyond his base of Republican supporters.
To keep conservatives in line, Schwarzenegger campaign operatives have quietly launched efforts to rally support among Christian fundamentalists, gun owners and other Republicans who have long been wary of the governor and backed him only grudgingly.
Conservative voters are Schwarzenegger’s base and they WILL turn out and VOTE for the GOP ticket, including Arnold. The GOP has a good group of young “down ticket” candidates for California constitutional offices. Some of the candidates are conservatives and some are moderates – a big tent GOP ticket.
This piece in the Los Angeles Times is pre-emptive crap politics immediately before the California Republican Party convention this weekend in Los Angeles. The Times hates Arnold and why not smear him a little right before his bow with the party faithful.
Los Angeles Times = BIASED and PATHETIC…….
Read the rest of the piece, if you can stomach it.
Oh, by the way, Robert Sallady should tell his editors that GOP voters will never vote for a LEFT-WING NERD like Phil Angelides who enlists his “MOTHER” Senator Dianne Feinstein to tell him not to smirk when addressing the public – “between thoughts”.
Stay tuned……
Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., left, embraces California Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides during Angelides’ campaign speech Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2006, in San Francisco.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Can Rudy Win the Southern GOP?
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (C) speaks at a news conference as he is joined by California’s Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger (L) and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca (R) in Santa Monica, California, August 17, 2006, urging California voters to support Proposition 83, Jessicas Law on the November 2006 ballot. Proposition 83 calls for electronically monitoring sex offenders for life via a GPS system as well as allowing prosecutors to charge criminals who posses child pornography with a felony.
Byron York in NRO: Can Giuliani Win the Southern GOP?
The better question is:
Can John McCain beat Rudy Giuliani in the South?
No other candidates will have stature in this presidential race, if they both run – which they will.
Flap sees a split in the South and McCain needs early southern wins to build credibility.California with its winner take all primary and massive number of GOP delegates will be in play with an edge to Rudy. New York and Pennsylvania will go to Rudy.
Flap sees Rudy the eventual winner with California deciding the race. But, who will be the Vice President candidate?
For a unity ticket, the loser?
Well, it won’t be Senator George Allen……

Israel at War Watch: Lebanese Army Reaches Southern Border with Israel
A Lebanese Army soldier flashes the victory sign as he rides in a truck on the way to deployment in southern Lebanon, north of the port city of Sidon, southern Lebanon, Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006. Lebanese troops, backed by tanks and armored vehicles, have begun deploying south of the Litani River in line with a U.N. cease-fire plan to end fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, a senior military official said Thursday.
AP: Lebanese army reaches southern border
The Lebanese army reached the country’s southern border with Israel for the first time Friday, sending a sole jeep on patrol through this village, where Israeli forces pulled out of in 2000, ending an 18-year occupation.
The army jeep, flying a large Lebanese flag and carrying just two soldiers clad in green camouflage uniforms, passed by the Fatima Gate a few yards from the border in Kfar Kila but did not stop.
Villagers throwing rice and Hezbollah supporters holding banners have welcomed the country’s army to the south after a nearly 40-year absence. About 15,000 troops are eventually supposed to deploy in the region under a peace plan aimed at securing an end to more than a month of fighting between Hezbollah guerrillas and Israel, but so far the troops have deployed mostly to predominantly Christian towns including Qleia and Marjayoun.
The Lebanese Army should be deployed in their own country – not an armed Hezbollah militia. But, until now the Lebanese government has been AWOL and their army weak.
Note that this state army will not even ask Hezbollah to disarm but merely put their weapons in hiding – while they are re-armed by Syria and Iran. A viloation of UNSCR 1701?
You betcha
And where is the UNIFIL deployment of 15,000 troops as per UNSCR 1701?
AWOL and…..
France is reneging on its commitment of troops (TYPICAL FRENCH SURRENDER).
France on Thursday rebuffed pleas by U.N. officials to make a major contribution to a peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon, setting back efforts to deploy an international military force to help police a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, according to U.N. and French officials.
French President Jacques Chirac said Thursday that France would contribute only 200 additional troops to the U.N. operation in southern Lebanon, which the Security Council wants to expand from 2,000 troops to 15,000. Chirac said that a force of about 1,700 French troops and crew members on warships off the coast would provide logistical support.
The United Nations is a gaggle of clowns.
Why Israel accepted this cease-fire is anyone’s guess. They did not meet their objectives of the war and events are reverting back to pre-war conditions.
The United Nations will NEVER enforce UNSCR 1701 and police southern Lebanon.
Might this be a wake-up call to Foggey Bottom about the effectiveness of United Nations negotiations – like in Iran?
We can only hope…..
And what is happening in the DEFEATED Israel?
Read it all……
Stay tuned……
