Israel at War Watch: Israel Rejects End to Lebanon Blockade
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan (L) ducks as he and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert walk past a fruit tree on their way to a joint press conference in Jerusalem. Annan has told Israel to end its crippling blockade of war-devastated Lebanon, but failed to extract any public promise for an immediate halt to the near seven-week siege.
Reuters: Israel rejects U.N. blockade appeal
Israel rejected a call by U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan on Wednesday to lift its air and sea blockade of Lebanon, saying it would only end the 7-week-old siege once all aspects of a ceasefire were in place.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert also told Annan he would not withdraw Israeli troops fully from southern Lebanon until the full implementation of the ceasefire, which took effect on August 14 and ended 34 days of conflict with Hizbollah guerrillas.
Olmert’s statements effectively amounted to a rejection of the two main requests Annan had come to Jerusalem to discuss, but Annan later played down the differences of opinion, saying his and Olmert’s thinking were not so far apart.
And why should Israel completely disengage from Lebanon prior to full implementation of UNSCR 1701? And enable the rearming/resupplying of Hezbollah by land and sea?
Is Annan a NUT or just an apologist and facilitator for the Islamofascists?
Probably the latter.
Israel may have performed poorly in the war with Hezbollah but Prime Minister Olmert is NOT that STUPID.
Olmert said any relaxation of pressure on Lebanon’s ports and airspace depended on the full implementation of U.N. resolution 1701, which governs the ceasefire with Hizbollah.
“The (resolution) is a fixed buffet and everything will be implemented, including the lifting of the blockade, as part of the entire implementation of the different articles,” he said.
Olmert was equally firm when Annan suggested Israel should withdraw its troops from Lebanon within “days or weeks” once up to 5,000 U.N.-backed peacekeepers are on the ground.
“Israel will pull out of Lebanon once the resolution is implemented,” Olmert said, indicating a longer timeline.
Indeed…..
Stay tuned……

Iran Watch: Former Iranian President Mohammed Khatemi To Meet With Former President Jimmy Carter
Former president Jimmy Carter is open to having a meeting with Iran’s former leader, a Carter aide said.
Washington Post: Carter Agrees to Hold Talks With Khatami
Ex-President of Iran to Visit U.S. Amid Tensions Over Tehran’s Nuclear Program
Despite mounting tensions between Washington and Tehran over the latter’s nuclear program, the Bush administration issued a visa for Khatami yesterday, as well as for about a dozen family and staff members, for a visit lasting about two weeks, the State Department confirmed. Khatami is expected to arrive in the United States tomorrow.
Khatami, a reformer who served as president from 1997 to 2005, is scheduled to speak at the Washington National Cathedral on Sept. 7. His schedule may include speeches at the University of Virginia and to an Islamic group in Chicago. He may also pay a private visit to Thomas Jefferson’s home at Monticello, according to sources familiar with his trip. He will begin his visit in New York at a U.N. conference on the dialogue of civilizations.
The White House said yesterday that Khatami had been invited by private organizations and is not part of the current Iranian government.
“Mr. Khatami is free to meet with who he chooses and is able to speak freely in the United States — the very freedoms that do not exist in Iran,” a White House official said on the condition of anonymity.
The question is WHY?
Carter is a MORON and the Mullahs must REALLY be laughing their ASSES OFF.

Senator Joe Lieberman Watch: Newtown Labor Day Parade FLAP
US Senator Joseph Lieberman, pictured here at a recent Newtown appearance, has had an invitation to march in the town’s Labor Day Parade retracted by members of the local Democratic Town Committee and First Selectman Herb Rosenthal.
The Newtown Bee: Lieberman Controversy Attends Labor Day Parade Preparations
If US Senator Joseph Lieberman chooses to march in this year’s Newtown Labor Day parade, he will likely do so as a true independent. Local members of the Democratic Town Committee, including First Selectman Herb Rosenthal and former staunch Lieberman supporter Jim Juliano, agree that the Senator has no reason to believe he is welcome to march beside other endorsed party candidates.
“By marching with members of the DTC and invited Democratic candidates and state leaders, it would give the impression that we support his candidacy,” said Mr Rosenthal when asked about the issue late Wednesday.
“I told him through his office, that as a duly elected Democratic official, he’s putting me in an uncomfortable, almost embarrassing position. We have a duly elected candidate, who was endorsed by a historic turnout of state Democrats in the recent primary. I don’t have to march with [Sen Lieberman], the DTC doesn’t have to march with him, so why would he want to make it look like he’s in good graces with the Democratic Party?” Mr Rosenthal continued. “He is not in good graces with state Democrats.”
Senator Lieberman is a sitting Democrat United States Senator. Anyone except petty POLS would wish their Connecticut United States Senator marching in their town’s parade.
But NO – the Democrats continue to EAT THEIR OWN.
And when JoeMentum is elected as an independent……..
Stay tuned…….

Iran Watch: Former Iranian President Mohammed Khatemi Granted USA VISA
Former Iranian President Mohammed Khatemi (NB Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in background)
NY Sun: Bush Administration Grants Visa To Ex-President of Iran
Despite intense disagreement over suspected nuclear weapons and terrorism, the Bush administration decided yesterday to allow the former leader of Iran, President Khatemi, to visit America.
A visa was granted yesterday to Mr. Khatemi and several Iranians who will accompany him on the visit early next month, a State Department spokesman, Tom Casey, said.
His travel will be unrestricted.
Mr. Khatemi plans to attend a U.N. conference September 5–6 and speak at the Washington National Cathedral on September 7.
No meetings with American officials are anticipated, Mr. Casey told reporters at a briefing.
Mr. Khatemi would be the most senior Iranian official to visit Washington since Islamic fundamentalists seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and held Americans there hostage for 444 days.
Now, why would the United States State Department and Condoleezza Rice approve a visa of a former President of a terrorist state?
Hezbollah and the Iranian Mullahs must be laughing their ASSES off.
What do these characters have to do?
KILL MORE AMERICANS?
Hugh Hewitt registers his disgust here.
While a case could be made that he must be allowed to travel to and from the UN, how is it that he is being allowed to come to Washington, and who invited him to speak at the Washington National Cathedral four days prior to the fifth anniversary of the attacks? It was from the National Cathedral that the national day of prayer and grievance proceeded five years ago, and the State Department does not understand how it might be unacceptable to allow the leader of the world’s greatest sponsor of terror to tread there at any time, much less in September? This decision makes me angry. How does it affect the families of the victims of terror, or the survivors of lost and wounded in the war?
Indeed……..
