Global War on Terror Watch: President Bush Declassifies and Makes Public the National Intelligence Estimate – NIE

    bushseptember26aweb

President George W. Bush (C) speaks on the economy alongside U.S. Senator Mike DeWine (R-OH) (L) during a factory visit at Meyer Tool Inc. in Cincinnati, September 25, 2006.

Reuters: Bush orders Iraq intelligence report made public

President George W. Bush blasted political opponents on Tuesday for selectively leaking from a secret intelligence assessment on global terrorism and then made public the report’s main conclusion that the Iraq war had become a “cause celebre” for Islamic extremists.

Democrats had seized on leaked portions of the National Intelligence Estimate to criticize the administration’s handling of the Iraq war and members of the U.S. Congress had pressed the White House to declassify the entire document.

At a news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Bush said it was “a bad habit for our government to declassify every time there’s a leak.”

But he said he decided to make it public so “you can read it for yourself” and stop the speculation that he said was aimed at confusing the American public.

“Somebody has taken it upon themselves to leak classified information for political purposes,” Bush said.

So, somebody “LEAKS” the NIE to the New York Times and the NYT true to form publishes snippets to embarass President Bush and the GOP. The intent – to influence the November mid-term elections negatively for the President.

First, the “LEAKER” should be vigorously pursued and prosecuted for disclosing a classified report.

Second, readers should punish the New York Times and other MSM outlets who published the blatantly biased snippets of the NIE, along with commentary.

Lastly, read Michelle Malkin’s SMACK DOWN of the NIE.

Here’s the link to the PDF document of the NIE’s key judgements at the DNI site. If the server is down, we’ve got it here.

Andy Cochran writes: “I wish they could declassify more or, as I wrote on Sunday night, turn the whole report over to an independent body like the 9/11 Commission and let them do it. “

The LEFT and the LEFT MSM attempted a PATHETIC media end-run around the President because they cannot or are afraid to confront his policies directly.

Come on Democrats. What say you about the entire report?

Canada Watch: Travelers Entering the United States from Canada Win a Reprieve

    canadaseptember26aweb

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper (2nd R) and Public Safety Minster Stockwell Day (L) arrive at the Canadian and U.S. border crossing in Cloverdale, west of Vancouver, British Columbia August 31, 2006. Harper announced on Thursday that Canadian border guards will be armed like their U.S. counterparts beginning in September of 2007.

Reuters: U.S. Congress poised to delay border check program

Travelers entering the United States from Canada will win a reprieve from a post-September 11 border security program requiring passports or other high-tech IDs, under a bill set to pass Congress this week.

Congressional negotiators have embraced a delay of up to 17 months for the program, which was supposed to have been fully activated by December 31, 2007.

The language has been attached to a fiscal 2007 domestic security funding bill the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate plan to approve before going on a recess ahead of November mid-term elections.

Following the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, Congress strengthened border security, including checks on some of the millions of people who travel by land into the country.

With only 15 months before the new program was to have started, Bush administration officials recently told Congress of difficulties readying identity cards and equipment to read those cards at border stations.

The Bush Administration yet again demonstrates its lack of resolve for border security.

And why couldn’t the United States government implement this program on time?

    Americans are less SAFE……

Senator George Allen Watch: The N-Word FLAP – A Democrat Dirty Trick SET UP

    allenseptember26aweb

Virginia Sen. George Allen, left, answers a question as Democratic challenger James Webb listens during a debate sponsored by the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce in McLean, Va., Monday, Sept 18, 2006

Virginia Papers Have Mixed Reaction to Sen. Allen’s ‘N-Word’ Problem

The current uproar over Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record)’s (R-VA) alleged racist comments, including several stories accusing him of using the N-word and engaging in other anti-black statements years ago, has drawn mixed reaction from his home state newspapers as they cover his re-election campaign.

While some papers, such as the Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, are stepping up coverage of the issue as the accusations spread, others, like The Free Lance-Star in Fredericksburg, are purposely downplaying the story out of concern for other issues in the tight Senate race with Jim Webb, a Demcorat. All of those local journalists who spoke with E&P, however, deny missing the story in the past, claiming any indication that Allen may have made such comments were nothing more than rumors.

“There were rumors that never rose to a news story,” said Warren Fiske, a Virginian-Pilot political reporter and 20-year veteran of state coverage. “In the past, we dealt with what we knew and could prove. We wrote stories about the Confederate flag in his house, his opposition to the Martin Luther King holiday and black legislators’ concerns of his sensitivity. But I don’t recall a teammate ever coming out and putting a name behind it.”

Well, it appears the original Salon story and the resulting follow-ups have not been substantiated than to be more than rumors or a partisan Democrat set-up to “GET” George Allen.

Read Captain Ed Morrissey’s account here and read it well.

One thing is certain: the only first-hand sources that have gone on the record have political axes to grind against Allen and their stories have fallen apart under close scrutiny. It’s a smear campaign, a character assassination in slow motion, and one that should shame James Webb and his campaign. They have yet to distance themselves from these attacks, and one has to conclude that they have no desire to do so.

It appears the local Viriginia press has miscounted the entire N-Word FLAP or lack thereof. This smells of a DIRTY TRICK and the SMELL emanates from the James Webb campaign.

Might this KERRFUFFIL backfire on the Webb candidacy?

Possible but more likely it will die a lingering death…..

    Stay tuned ….

Michael Ramirez on Bill Clinton’s Legacy in the Global War on Terror

    ramireztoon092606web

Reuters: Bush dismisses Clinton critique as “finger-pointing”

President Bush on Tuesday dismissed as “finger-pointing” criticism from his predecessor Bill Clinton of his counter-terrorism efforts in the months leading up to the September 11 attacks.

Clinton, angrily defending his own administration’s attempts to capture or kill Osama bin Laden, had accused the Bush administration of doing far less to stop the al Qaeda leader before the 2001 hijack plane attacks.

Bush, who is trying to stave off a Democratic takeover of Congress in November, seemed to bristle when asked about Clinton, only to sidestep his assertions.

“We’ll let history judge all the different finger-pointing and all that business. I don’t have enough time to finger-point,” he said at a news conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

“I’ve got to do my job,” he added, “and that is to protect the American people from further attacks.”

Indeed Clinton is a HAS BEEN who wants to play politics for his own aggrandizement and Bush is the REAL DEAL and is charged with protecting Americans which Clinton failed to do.

    And admits he FAILED….

Bill Clinton Watch: Condi vs. Slick Willie

    condiseptember26cweb

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice participates in an interview conducted by MTV host Gideon Yago, (not shown), at MTV studios, Monday, Sept. 25, 2006 in New York. The interview will air on MTVnews.com and MTV overdrive.

AP: Rice challenges Clinton on terror fight

Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice challenged former President Clinton’s claim that he did more than many of his conservative critics to pursue al-Qaida, saying in an interview published Tuesday that the Bush administration aggressively pursued the group even before the 9/11 attacks.

“What we did in the eight months was at least as aggressive as what the Clinton administration did in the preceding years,” Rice said during a meeting with editors and reporters at the New York Post.

If Bill Clinton wants a “WAR” with the current administration he will get one. Clinton LIED under oath and was disbarred. He was IMPEACHED for crimes of moral turpitude.

And Americans are to believe his histrionic gyrations on Fox News Sunday about his role in the global war on terror?

    NOPE

    clintonseptember25aweb

The newspaper published her comments after Clinton appeared on “Fox News Sunday” in a combative interview in which he defended his handling of the threat posed by Osama bin Laden and said he “worked hard” to have the al-Qaida leader killed.

“That’s the difference in me and some, including all of the right-wingers who are attacking me now,” Clinton said in the interview. “They ridiculed me for trying. They had eight months to try, they did not try.”

    Rice disputed his assessment.

“The notion somehow for eight months the Bush administration sat there and didn’t do that is just flatly false — and I think the 9/11 commission understood that,” she said.

Rice also took exception to Clinton’s statement that he “left a comprehensive anti-terror strategy” for incoming officials when he left office. “We were not left a comprehensive strategy to fight al-Qaida,” she told the newspaper.

The New York Post interview of Condi is here.

Flap wonders when Hillary will BITCH SLAP Bubba because he is hurting his/her legacy, the presidency and the Democrat Party.

    Keep talking SLICK.
