FOX News Poll: Obama Trails Clinton in 2008 Dem Primary

Despite the almost incredible amount of buzz about potential presidential hopeful Illinois Sen. Barack Obama, the latest FOX News poll finds that New York Sen. Hillary Clinton soundly outperforms Obama in the Democratic primary and also in hypothetical head-to-head matchups. Even though a lot could change before 2008, so far Republicans have clearly coalesced around former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain as their party’s frontrunners.

On the Republican primary side, the two frontrunners remain unchanged from previous polling: Giuliani (30 percent) and McCain (23 percent) far outdistance the competition. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (9 percent) and Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney (8 percent) are the only other contenders who register above 3 percent.

Giuliani (42 percent) tops McCain (40 percent) by just 2 percentage points when Republicans are asked to pick between only those two candidates, and McCain tops Romney by 59 percent to 14 percent.

Clearly, the race is boiling down to Mayor Giuliani and Senator McCain. Isn’t this reminiscent of the 1976 and 1980 GOP campaigns – Ford vs. Reagan and George HW Bush vs. Reagan?

Look for a long primary season with the GOP nomination decided in California. But, will the California Legislature change the June primary election to March?

    Very possible…..

But, the nominee will be Giuliani or McCain. The other wannabe candidates like Mitt Romney trail badly in primary polls. Romney’s Mormon religion also does not poll well.

Fox News poll details are here.

In head-to-head matchups, Giuliani has a 9-point and McCain an 8-point edge over Clinton. These results are essentially unchanged from previous polling.

When the Democratic candidate is Obama, the Republican advantage increases. Giuliani bests Obama by 11 points and McCain tops him by 19 points.

As in previous polls, Mayor Giuliani matches up the best against likely Democrat nominee Hillary Clinton.

    The GOP Primary details:

Question: If the 2008 Republican presidential primary were held today, for whom would

    6. George Pataki 2

    7. Duncan Hunter 1

    8. Chuck Hagel – 3

    9. (Other) 1

    10. (Don’t know) 22

    11. (Would not vote in
    Republican primary) 2

Question: If John McCain and Rudy Giuliani were the only choices in the Republican primary, how would you vote?
    Republicans:

    McCain – 40%

    Giuliani – 42%

    (Don’t know) – 3%

    (Would not vote) – 15%

Question: If John McCain and Mitt Romney were the only choices in the Republican primary, how would you vote?

    Republicans

    McCain – 59%

    Romney- 14%

    In the General Election:

Question:Thinking ahead to the next presidential election, if the 2008 genera lelection were held today and the candidates were [NAME] and [NAME], for whom would you vote?

    What if the candidates were:

Mumia Abu-Jamal Watch: House Condemns the Decision of St. Denis, France, to Name a Street in Honor of Mumia Abu-Jamal

    abujamaldecember7bweb

A protestor waves a poster claiming justice for US death-row inmate Mumia Abu-Jamal during a demonstration in Paris in 2000. City authorities in Philadelphia are suing their counterparts in Paris and its suburb of Saint Denis for honoring Jamal for the murder of a policeman he denies committing, a lawyer said.

Philadelphia Inquirer: U.S. House denounces Abu-Jamal street name

A resolution asks France to change the name of a suburb’s street honoring the convicted police killer.

House members last night passed a resolution denouncing a French city for naming a street in honor of convicted cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal.

“We must stand together as one and send a strong message to the world that cop-killers deserve to be punished, not to be celebrated,” said Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick (R., Pa.), the Bucks County congressman who wrote the resolution.

The vote came a few days shy of the 25th anniversary of the slaying of Daniel Faulkner, a 25-year-old officer shot after he pulled over Abu-Jamal’s brother on Dec. 9, 1981. Abu-Jamal, a onetime radio reporter and former Black Panther, was convicted in 1982 and sentenced to death.

Abu-Jamal’s writings and taped speeches on the justice system have made him a cause celebre among Hollywood activists, foreign politicians, and some death-penalty opponents who believe he was the victim of a racist justice system.

In December 2001, a federal judge overturned Abu-Jamal’s death sentence but upheld his conviction. Both sides have appealed that ruling.

In April, a street in St. Denis, a suburb in France just north of Paris, was named after Abu-Jamal.

The resolution asks the French government to step in to change the street name if St. Denis opted not to. The measure passed 368-31, with eight members voting present.

And who are the 31 who voted against the House Resolution?

Or as James Taranto in the WSJ calls the cop killer caucus:

Here’s a list of what one might call the Cop-Killer’s Caucus, the congressmen who voted against the resolution, all Democrats:

Neil Abercrombie (Hawaii) Carolyn Kilpatrick (Mich.) Robert Scott (Va.)
William Clay (Mo.) Barbara Lee (Calif.) Jose Serrano (N.Y.)
Emanuel Cleaver (Mo.) Cynthia McKinney (Ga.) Fortney Hillman Stark Jr. (Calif.)
John Conyers (Mich.) Gregory Meeks (N.Y.) Edolphus Towns (N.Y.)
Jim Cooper (Tenn.) Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.) Mark Udall (Colo.)
Danny Davis (Ill.) James Oberstar (Minn.) Nydia Velazquez (N.Y.)
Raul Grijalva (Ariz.) Major Owens (N.Y.) Maxine Waters (Calif.)
Maurice Hinchey (N.Y.) Ed Pastor (Ariz.) Anthony Weiner (N.Y.)
Mike Honda (Calif.) Donald Payne (N.J.) Lynn Woolsey (Calif.)
Jesse Jackson Jr. (Ill.) Charles Rangel (N.Y.)
Eddie Bernice Johnson (Texas) Bobby Rush (Ill.)

And John Conyers will chair the House Judiciary Committee and he does not support the rule of law?

And Charles Rangel will chair the House Ways and Means Committee and he does not support the rule of law?

All are Cop-Killer supporting LEFTY MORONS.

Flap supposes that they all thought Stanley Tookey Williams should not have been executed either.

John Bolton Watch: Who Will Replace United Nations Ambassador Bolton?

    boltondecember7aweb

United States Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton leaves a Security Council meeting at United Nations Headquarters in New York, Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006. Speculation on a new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations to succeed John Bolton is focusing on Washington’s current ambassador in Iraq , Zalmay Khalilzad, and a former U.S. deputy ambassador at the U.N., Richard Williamson. President Bush accepted Bolton’s resignation Monday, angered that a few Republicans joined Democrats in preventing his nomination from reaching the floor of the Senate.

    AP: Who’ll be Bolton’s replacement at U.N.?

Speculation on a new U.S. ambassador to the United Nations to succeed John Bolton is focusing on Washington’s current ambassador in Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad, and a former U.S. deputy ambassador at the U.N., Richard Williamson.

But there also are a number of other Republicans and even some Democrats whose names have been floated among diplomats at U.N. headquarters.

The Republican speculation includes Rep. Jim Leach (news, bio, voting record), a 15-term lawmaker from Iowa and opponent of the war in Iraq who lost his seat in the Democratic takeover of the House of Representatives in November, and two undersecretaries at the State Department, Nicholas Burns and Paula Dobriansky.

On the Democratic side, two former senators have been mentioned — George Mitchell of Maine and Sam Nunn of Georgia.

The President has two fine choices in Zalmay Khalilzad and Richard Williamson. the others are just “window dressing” so it appears the President is b-partisan. Make no mistake about it, but, in the United Nations the President will want HIS ambassador.

    khalilzaddecember7aweb

U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Zalmay Khalilzad speaks during an interview with The Associated Press at the U.S. Embassy in the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad, Iraq in this Sunday, May 21, 2006 file photo.

Khalilzad, an Afghan-born Sunni Muslim and Republican insider, took up the Iraq post in June 2005 after serving as U.S. ambassador to Afghanistan from 2003 to 2005 following the fall of the Taliban. In November, a senior State Department official said he was likely to leave Iraq as soon as the end of the year but was more likely to remain through the spring.

ABC News reported Tuesday that Khalilzad will soon return to the United States and is under “strong consideration” to be the new ambassador to the U.N., quoting a senior administration official.

Khalilzad served at the National Security Council as special assistant to the president and senior director for Islamic Outreach and Southwest Asia, and as head of the Bush-Cheney transition team for the Defense Department.

    williamsondecember7bweb

U.S. Deputy Ambassador Richard Williamson speaks to media after a Security Council vote, outside the Security Council Chamber at the United Nations headquarters in this Friday, June 21, 2002 file photo.

Williamson, now a partner in the Chicago law firm of Mayer Brown Rowe and Maw, was a deputy ambassador at the U.N. in 2002-03 and ambassador to the U.N. Human Rights Commission in Geneva in 2004. He was recently in Washington where he reportedly spoke to several senior State Department officials.

Williamson served as assistant secretary of state for international organizations in the State Department from 1988-89. He is a former chairman of the Illinois Republican Party and currently on the board of directors of the International Republican Institute.

Two excellent candidates – each with strengths and definitely confirmable in a Democrat controlled Senate. Clearly, the President will make a personal choice.

    And John Bolton?

President Bush accepted Bolton’s resignation Monday, angered that a few Republicans joined Democrats in preventing his nomination from reaching the floor of the Senate. Bush appointed Bolton last year when Congress was in recess, but his term is about to expire. With a long fight for confirmation going nowhere, Bolton decided to resign.

Bolton refused to talk about his personal situation when he came to U.N. headquarters Thursday to vote on a resolution authorizing an African force to protect Somalia’s transitional government, which the U.S. sponsored.

“I will continue to serve until my appointment ends because I’ve not resigned, I’ve simply indicated I will leave federal service when the recess appointment ends,” he said. That will happen when Congress adjourns, either in late December or early January.

Well, has Bolton had enough of government service? Flap is sure that Bolton will be offered many academic and/or private sector consulting opportuinities.

In any case, Flap looks forward to Bolton’s book – especially with regard to the Iran nuclear crisis, Hugo Chavez and Kofi Annan.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Credibility of United Nations at Risk Over Iran Nuclear Sanctions

    irannukedecember7aweb

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad before an official meeting with Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan (not pictured) in Tehran, December 3, 2006.

Reuters: France says in a hurry to reach Iran sanctions deal

France said on Wednesday world powers must agree quickly on sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program or put the credibility of the United Nations at risk.

Senior officials from the six countries — France, Britain, Germany, Russia, China and the United States — were unable to agree a draft U.N. resolution at a meeting on Tuesday and France said several key differences remain between the West and Russia.

“Are we in a hurry or not?” French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said at a news conference. “Yes, because I believe, as someone said earlier, that the credibility of the United Nations Security Council is at stake.”

And what remaining credibility might this be?

Russia and China, permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, will NEVER approve ANY meaningful sanctions against Iran. Feckless and fruitless EU and U.N. negotiations with Iran over their nuclear program have been proceeding for years.

    Where has France been?

The United States voiced growing impatience.

“We will continue to work for consensus so that we can get as many countries voting for a sanctions resolution but we are getting to the point now where we need to come to a vote in the not too distant future,” State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said any decision to impose sanctions on Iran would be illegal.

“We (would) consider such a decision as a threat to our national interests and security,” Mottaki said. “The Security Council is a place to strengthen security for countries, not to threaten security,” he said at a news conference in
    The Hague.

It is readily apparent that if the West, including France, wishes to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons then military action will be required.

Israel will NOT allow Iran to possess a weapon that could wipe Israel off the face of the earth. Israeli Jews will not allow the Iranian Mullahs and Iran President Ahmadinejad to blackmail them into leaving Israel.

    So, what can France do?

Support the United States and Israel in imposing tough economic/travel/trade sanctions as a precursor to the coming conflict. Support the United States and Israel in the coming military operations.

The P-5-Plus-1, United Nations Security Council, and EU negotiations with Iran have FAILED.

Israel’s newsest cabinet minister, Avigdor Lieberman, whose portfolio is strategic affairs and includes Iran shares Flap’s pessimism  (via Hugh Hewitt) regarding Iran negotiations.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: ISG Report – Giuliani Calls Idea of Quitting Iraq a “TERRIBLE MISTAKE”

    giulianidecember7aweb

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani (L), reacts as he is introduced by Circuit City Stores CEO Philip J. Schoonover (C), and chief marketing officer Peter Weedfald (R), at a news conference in a New York City firehouse, December 6, 2006. The consumer electronics retailer announced a ‘firedog Across America Contest’ to support US fire stations and presented separate $100,000 checks to the National Law Enforcement and Firefighters Children’s Foundation and FDNY Foundation.

NY Sun: Giuliani Calls Idea of Quitting Iraq ‘Terrible Mistake’

Mayor Giuliani resigned from the Iraq Study Group when it became clear that signing the group’s report would politicize its findings and conflict with his likely presidential run in 2008.

When asked yesterday by The New York Sun, the mayor said he had not read the report’s recommendations but that some of those he had heard about on television sounded “useful.”

Nonetheless, Mr. Giuliani’s views on the war are in contrast to the Iraq Study Group’s conclusions. The extent of Mr. Giuliani’s disagreement with the bipartisan group’s Iraq policy recommendations, published yesterday, was made clear in remarks he made to a talk-show host, Dennis Prager, on Tuesday.

“The idea of leaving Iraq, I think, is a terrible mistake,” the former mayor said. The group’s report, however, stresses that America should not make an “open-ended” commitment of troops and links the presence of troops to milestones met by the Iraqi government.

The Iraq Study Group Report is a report of appeasement and surrender. Rudy Giuliani as President will NOT sell out Israel and will NOT expediently withdraw from the Global War on Terror.

Mr. Giuliani also rejected the panel’s recommendation that America tie the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian Arab conflict to stabilizing Iraq. When asked about this linkage on Mr. Prager’s radio show, Mr. Giuliani said, “Israel and Palestine is an important issue. Sometimes it’s used as an excuse to deal with underlying issues. But the reality here is that the Islamo-fundamentalist terrorists are at war with our way of life, with our modern world, with rights for women, religious freedom, societies that have religious freedom. And all of that would still exist, no matter what happens in Israel and Palestine.”

    giulianidecember1bjpgweb

Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani gestures while speaking during the Riga Conference, on the sidelines of a NATO summit, at Blackheads House in Riga, Tuesday Nov. 28, 2006. According to a poll released on Monday, that scores the popularity of national leaders, Americans have the warmest feelings about former New York City ,Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Republican Senator John McCain and Democratic Senator Barack Obama.

Well, we have heard from Mayor Giuliani and Senator McCain on the Iraq Study Group Report.

What about Senator Barrack Obama – who voted against the Iraq War resolution and Senator Hillary Clinton? Are they continuing to write their “talking points?”

Senator Slow Joe Biden has said he will have Senate Foreign Relations Committee Iraq hearings to most probably support his notion that Iraq be divided into three parts.

But, what about the other Democrat wannabe Presidential candidates?

What are YOUR plans for the Iraq War?

    Inquiring minds are waiting.

    Captain Ed has more:

Both men have underscored the issue of the war — that we will not negotiate with terrorist-supporting states. Somehow Baker and his ISG forgot that we’re not just fighting a war in Iraq, and that Israel is not just a problem to be solved. We are fighting the spread of radical Islamist terrorism, and the two major production centers for that very problem are Teheran and Damascus. Holding a regional conference with them to determine anything but their surrender in that war only encourages the spread of the terrorism that we seek to end.

    Indeed…….
