Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: California Governor Continues to Work Despite Injury

    arnolddecember28a

n this photo provided by the Press Office of Governor Schwarzenegger, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signs an order creating the Public Employee Post-Employment Benefits Commission in his hospital room in Santa Monica, Calif., Thursday, Dec. 28 2006. Schwarzenegger is recovering from leg surgery that followed a skiing accident in Idaho.

Los Angeles Times: By Arnold’s Bedside

Gov. Arnold Schwarznegger’s staff, eager to show the governor hasn’t been incapacitated by his surgery to repair a femur fractured on the slopes, have issued a statement from the governor and a few “action” photos of him working from his hospital bed.

Today I woke up feeling great and I am back at work. From the hospital I am preparing for my State of the State address, meeting with members of my staff and working on the state budget. I am also looking forward to my inauguration to a second term as your Governor – even if it means I have to walk into my swearing-in ceremony on crutches. Over the past few days I have received so many phone calls and notes wishing me a speedy recovery. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers.

A list of the Governor’s ailments over the years is here.

    AP: Schwarzenegger: Broken but unbowed

The seven-time Mr. Olympia whose broad shoulders and tree-trunk legs earned him the moniker “the Austrian Oak” has a medical chart you might find at a senior citizens’ home.
Schwarzenegger, who turns 60 in July, has had a hip and a heart valve replaced. He had rotator cuff surgery in 2003. A rapid heartbeat sent him to a hospital last year. One motorcycle crash in 2001 left him with several broken ribs, and another last January resulted in 15 stitches in his lip.
Now he is on crutches while the right thigh bone he broke while skiing with his family over the holidays in Sun Valley, Idaho, heals. Doctors used screws and wires to repair his leg Tuesday, and he is expected to be released from the hospital by week’s end.

As I mentioned previously, I had the opportunity to fill in for a dentist earlier this year who had a similar injury – his was from roller blades.

Pain is a factor in and out of the hospital. This is not a fun injury.

The dentist was fairly bed-ridden for three weeks or so and dependent on pain meds. After a few weeks the dentist was able to right himself and walk with crutches. Full healing and mobility came weeks later.

It is commendable that the Governor continues to work. However, he does not have to push himself and re-injury that leg. He should be very careful when he is inaugurated that he not place any pressure on it.

Appearances mean little. Everyone has ski injuries, including Governators.

Governor – take it easy and rest.

Senator Tim Johnson Watch: Johnson Remains in Critical Condition

    johnsontimedecember13bweb

AP: Johnson Remains in Critical Condition

Sen. Tim Johnson turned 60 on Thursday, two weeks after emergency surgery to repair a brain hemorrhage that has left him in critical condition.

Julianne Fisher, a spokeswoman for the South Dakota Democrat, said Johnson won’t be present in the first days of the new Congress next week but is continuing to improve. She said he is responsive to directions from his wife but has not yet spoken.

It’s too early to tell how long recovery will take, Fisher said.

In a statement Thursday, Johnson’s doctors said he remains in intensive care at George Washington University Hospital. They have released few new details about Johnson’s condition and prognosis since the days after the Dec. 13 surgery to stop bleeding in his brain.

Dr. Vivek Deshmukh, head of Johnson’s surgical team, said in a statement that the South Dakota senator’s overall condition has improved and he is gradually being weaned off sedation to help his brain heal.

It is obvious that Senator Johnson will not participate in the reorganization of the Senate and without him voting the Democrats are in the minority – 48 Democrats, 49 Republicans and 2 Independents. No party has a majority of the Senate which is 51.

So, what kind of deal is looming?

Will it be the 2001 deal (brokered by Daschle and Lott)?

Or will the Democrats have the audacity to force a majority with a Senator who cannot function or even speak? Moreover, Senator Johnson may never enter the Senate again.

    Stay tuned……

Michael Ramirez on Iran United Nations Sanctions

    ramireztoon122806web

AFP: US warns Iran over ‘downward spiral’ with UN nuclear watchdog

The United States warned Iran against heading into a “downward spiral” of non-cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog IAEA after Tehran’s parliament authorized the government to limit the agency’s access to its atomic sites.

A White House spokesman, Scott Stanzel, urged the Islamic Republic to “immediately” conform to the demands of the UN Security Council to suspend its enrichment of uranium, a practice many fear is a cover for developing nuclear weapons.

“Iran has long been in non-compliance with its Non-Proliferation Treaty and required IAEA safeguard agreements,” Stanzel said in Crawford, Texas, where
President George W. Bush was spending the end of the year.

Further non-compliance by Iran “will worsen its situation in the eyes of the world” and generate further reports of non-compliance from the
International Atomic Energy Agency, he said.

“It is hard to see how such a downward spiral is in the interest of the Iranian people,” the spokesman said.

“We hope, therefore, that the Iranian regime will set aside threats and confrontation and will begin immediately to cooperate with all the requirements of the Security Council.”

Iran has NO intention to comply with any FECKLESS United Nations sanction.

The Mullahs covet a nuclear weapon and will do ANYTHING to obtain it.

Cindy Sheehan Watch: Sheehan Arrested AGAIN – This Time in Crawford

    sheehannovember8aweb

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan yells to fellow demonstrators as she is arrested outside of the White House in Washington, Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006.

Sheehan, other protesters arrested near Bush ranch

War protester Cindy Sheehan and several fellow peace activists were arrested this morning outside President Bush’s ranch where Bush is meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and others on Iraq war policy.

Sheehan, arrested just after 11, said she and others were conducting a “peace surge” to address concerns that Bush may increase U.S. troop numbers in Iraq. The Bush administration is under mounting pressure to change its tactics in an increasingly unpopular conflict. Among the suggestions Bush is considering is a temporary surge in U.S. troops.

Just before she was arrested, Sheehan was sitting in the middle of the road near Bush’s 1,600-acre ranch. This morning’s protesters said they fully expected to be arrested for demonstrating near the ranch.

Flap supposes Mother Sheehan’s smackdown of a dead Gerald Ford was insufficient to generate sufficient BUZZ:

Usually, burying a 93 year old loved one is sorrowful but, I believe his pardon of Richard Nixon is one of the factors that have led to the untimely deaths of over 3000 American soldiers and hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in the Middle East.

Maybe she means LBJ or JFK?

    Indeed a MORON……

John Edwards Watch: Edwards is IN

    edwardsdecember28aweb

John Edwards shovels with student volunteers as he works in the backyard of a house in an area affected by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006. The former Democratic vice presidential nominee is running for president for a second time, his campaign said Wednesday. Note the microphone attached to Edward’s shirt.
AP: Edwards shoots for White House again

Former vice presidential nominee John Edwards said Thursday that he is a candidate for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination, promising “a grass roots, ground-up campaign where we ask people to take action.”

Clad in blue jeans, an open-necked shirt and with his sleeves rolled up, Edwards chose the backyard of a victim of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans’ devastated 9th Ward for his unorthodox announcement.

“We want people in this campaign to actually take action now, not later, not after the next election,” the former North Carolina senator said, sounding as much like a recruiter as a presidential campaigner.

“Instead of staying home and complaining, we’re asking Americans to help,” Edwards said. “Most of the good that has been done in New Orleans has been done by faith-based groups, charitable groups and volunteers.”

Edwards — who is calling for cuts in poverty, global warming and troops in
Iraq — chose the site to highlight his signature concern of the economic disparity that divides America.

“I’m here to announce I’m a candidate for president of the United States,” Edwards told NBC’s “Today Show” earlier Thursday, one of three back-to-back interviews by the candidate on morning news shows. “I’ve reached my own conclusion this is the best way to serve my country.”

John Edwards starts his campaign pandering to a large block of Democrat primary voters – the African American vote.

Realistically, Edwards has NO chance at the nomination with Hillary and Barack Obama in the race. He will never shed his association with the LOSING John Kerry campaign:

    edwardskerryweb

    The only question will be:

    When will Edwards withdraw?

Somalia Watch: Mogadishu Retaken by Somali Government Troops

    somaliadecember28bjpgweb

A Somali woman purchase clothes at Bakhara Market Mogadishu, Somalia, Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006, for the Muslim festival of Idd ul-Hajj which will be celebrated on Saturday Dec. 30 2006. Somalia’s Islamic movement abandoned the nation’s capital on Thursday and clan militiamen poured into the streets to take control of Mogadishu, as government forces approached to within 30 kilometers (18 miles). ‘We will capture Mogadishu any time within the coming hours,’ government spokesman Abdirahman Dinari told The Associated Press, saying the country was under a state of emergency. ‘We are now at the entry points of the city.’ And the Associated Press is now reporting that government troops have entered Mogadishu.

Reuters: Mogadishu falls to Somali government troops

Triumphant Somali government forces marched into Mogadishu on Thursday after Islamist rivals abandoned the war-scarred city they held for six months before an Ethiopian-backed advance.

The flight of the Islamists was a dramatic turn-around in the volatile Horn of Africa nation after they took Mogadishu in June and spread across the south imposing sharia rule.

Terrified of yet more violence in a city that has become a byword for chaos, some Mogadishu residents greeted the arriving government troops, while others hid.

“People are cheering as they wave flowers to the troops,” said resident Abdikadar Abdulle, adding scores of government military vehicles had passed the Somalia National University west of the city center.

Parts of Mogadishu shook with the sound of gunfire and there were outbreaks of looting after leaders of the Somalia Islamic Courts Council (SICC) fled its base early in the morning. Some fighters ditched their uniforms to avoid reprisals.

“We have been defeated. I have removed my uniform. Most of my comrades have also changed into civilian clothes,” one former SICC fighter told Reuters. “Most of our leaders have fled.”

So, the Islamists have CUT and RUN as the Global War on Terror continues.

In Mogadishu, gunfire echoed through the streets and hundreds of gunmen, who just hours earlier fought for Quranic rule, took off their Islamic uniforms and submitted to the command of clan elders.

AP: Government troops enter Somalia capital

Somali government troops rolled into Mogadishu unopposed on Thursday, the prime minister said, hours after an Islamic movement that tried to establish a government based on the Quran abandoned the capital.

The Islamic militia promised to take a last stand in southern Mogadishu.

“We are in Mogadishu,” Prime Minister Mohamed Ali Gedi said after meeting with local clan leaders to discuss the handover of the city. “We are coordinating our forces to take control of Mogadishu.”

Well, that did not take long to rout the Islamists. The Ethiopians obviously are not fecking around with the spread of Islamic terrorism across their borders.

Is this a lesson for the world?

For the people of Somalia – yes.

For Islamic appeasers – sadly no!
