Rudy Giuliani Watch: Bush Iraq Plan Should Be Given A Chance
Rudy Giuliani and his wife Judy Nathan speak to a reporter in Bretton Woods, New HampshirePotential Candidate Giuliani Visits New Hampshire
Giuliani Says Bush Iraq Plan Should Be Given A ChanceMayor Giuliani will be in New Hampshire this weekend.
Tonight he will be speaking before the Littleton Area Chamber of Commerce and tomorrow he adrdesses the New Hampshire State Republican Party’s Annual Convention.
During an interview today, America’s Mayor commneted on the Iraq War and President Bush’s plan to increase the number of troops:
“I think that we’ve got to give it a chance,” Giuliani said. “I think we’ve got to try to come out of Iraq with a situation where there’s stability, where we don’t make things worse.”
Giuliani said that he also believes the Iraqi government should take more charge of the situation.
“I think we’ve got to be really careful, and we have to introduce accountability and require the Iraqi government to do the kind of job in Baghdad that they’re supposed to do, with us supporting them and pushing them,” he said.
Indeed.
While John McCain is self-destructing and being attacked by the Democrat National Committee, Rudy Giuliani delivers clear and concise leadership.
What a difference…..
Stay tuned……..
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani shakes hands at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, N.H., Friday, Jan. 26, 2007. Giuliani started a two-day campaign swing speaking in the North Country to the Littleton Area Chamber of Commerce.

John McCain Watch: DNC Criticizes McCain Contradictions on Iraq War

Jan. 25: Sen. John McCain, right, chats with Sen. Carl Levin during a hearing on Iraq strategy.
Democrat National Committee: DNC: McCain’s ‘Recipe for Disaster’: Contradicting Himself Again on Iraq
In the face of overwhelming opposition from the American public to the Bush-McCain plan to escalate the
Iraq War, presidential hopeful John McCain (news, bio, voting record) yesterday proposed a Senate resolution that would include “a series of benchmarks” he has long opposed. [New York Times, 1/26/07] McCain emphasized that if the benchmarks set by his resolution are not met, “everyone knows the consequence … then you have to examine your mission.” [CNN, 1/26/2007]Senator McCain’s resolution is now being circulated.
The Democrats continue:
In other words, McCain is now proposing imposing benchmarks that the Iraqi government would be required to meet on a specific timetable, or face an American re-evaluation of its strategy. The move is a contradiction for John McCain who “has vigorously endorsed the president’s war policies” and once called the idea of a timetable “a recipe for disaster.” [Washington Post, 1/26/07; Birmingham News, 11/22/05] Just over a month ago, McCain went so far as to say that “placing a limited timeframe … would only induce Iraqis to side with militias” and against Americans. [Arizona Republic, 12/7/06]
“Increasingly isolated for his stubborn support of the President’s failed strategy in Iraq, John McCain is again contradicting himself hoping to have it both ways as he seeks the Republican nomination,” said Democratic National Committee spokesman Luis Miranda. “The American people want a new direction in Iraq and principled leadership. McCain’s call for benchmarks is a call for the timetable he has long opposed and another example he’s willing to do anything to get elected.”
Today McCain Wants Benchmarks. “Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, said he would propose giving the Iraqis a series of benchmarks to demonstrate progress.” [The New York Times, 01/26/2007]
But McCain Said Timetable Was A “Recipe For Disaster” And Urged Colleagues To Show Some “Backbone.” McCain, calling Iraq a “noble cause” and saying that to “prevail” in Iraq required “a little backbone,” slammed Murtha’s proposal for a timetabled troop redeployment. McCain said, “To set a timetable, when it doesn’t comply with the situation on the ground, I think is a recipe for disaster.” [Birmingham News, 11/22/05]
McCain Further Said A Date for Withdrawal Would Lead to Chaos. “I believe that a withdrawal, or a date for withdrawal, will lead to chaos in the region, and most military experts think the same thing.” [NBC News, 11/12/06]
And That a “Timeframe” Would “Induce Iraqis to Side With Militias”. The Arizona Republic reported that John McCain “said he disagrees that any such redeployment should be characterized as ‘short-term,’ or that any firm timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal should be set. ‘Our troops should be sent to Baghdad, or anywhere in Iraq, in order to complete a defined mission, not to serve until some predetermined date passes … By placing a limited timeframe on our military commitments, we would only induce Iraqis to side with militias that will stay indefinitely, rather than with the U.S. and Government of Iraq.'” [Arizona Republic, 12/7/06]
Appeasement gets you NOWHERE, Senator.
Mc Cain’s Presidential campaign is NOW DEAD.
****GOP Senators listen up!****
To Senator McCain:
Take Down this resolution.
You are not the President and you look like a FLIPPER on the Iraq War. Remember John Kerry.
Try to save yourself embarassment with the GOP Base – albeit your presidential campaign is OVER.
To Senator John Warner:
Withdraw your resolution. Support your party and President. Let General Petraeus work the plan. Don’t condemn the plan before it has been implemented.
To Senator Mitch McConnell:
Prepare to lead a FILIBUSTER against the Biden, Levin and Hagel resolution. No up or down vote on a symbolic repudiation of your President. Whip your colleagues. NO CLOTURE.
To the REST of the GOP Senators:
Vote against CLOTURE on the Biden, Levin and Hagel resolution and any other resolution that undermines our troops and the Iraq War effort.
Remember our troops and
Listen to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates today:
Defense Secretary Robert Gates said Friday that a congressional resolution opposing President Bush’s troop buildup in Iraq undercuts U.S. commanders and “emboldens the enemy.”
He also said the Pentagon was now studying whether it could accelerate the deployment of the five additional Army brigades that it has announced will be sent to Baghdad between now and May to bolster security in the capital.
At his first Pentagon news conference since taking office Dec. 18, Gates was asked his reaction to the debate in Congress over the effect of such a nonbinding resolution. “It’s pretty clear that a resolution that in effect says that the general going out to take command of the arena shouldn’t have the resources he thinks he needs to be successful certainly emboldens the enemy and our adversaries,” he said.

Cuba Watch: Fidel Castro – Decided to Avoid Colostomy?
Cuban leader Fidel Castro chose to avoid a colostomy and opted for riskier intestinal surgery that led to serious complications, the Spanish newspaper El Pais said in its Wednesday edition.
The shortcut involved sewing the colon to the rectum but did not heal properly and broke apart, releasing gastric fluid with feces that caused serious infection, El Pais said on its Web site.
The newspaper reported a day earlier that Castro’s prognosis was “very serious†and that he is being fed intravenously after three failed operations for diverticulitis, or pouch-like bulges in the large intestine that get infected.
El Pais cited medical sources at the same Madrid hospital where a surgeon who examined Castro in late December works.
And ask the Canadians who travel to the United States to see a doctor or get a test since their universal care (socialized) system imposes rationing of care.
NOTE WELL:
Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton support government run universal single payor health care.

Paul Cellucci, former Governor of Massachusetts and Ambassador to Canada
Boston Globe: Rebuffing Romney, Cellucci supports Giuliani for president
Former Massachusetts governor Paul Cellucci told the Globe yesterday that he is supporting former New York City mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani for president over Mitt Romney — even though Romney called Cellucci and asked for his endorsement in a meeting two weeks ago.
Cellucci called Romney, who served one term as Massachusetts governor , a “capable leader” and said there was no snub intended. “This is not anti-Mitt. This is pro-Rudy,” Cellucci said in an interview.
Nonetheless, Giuliani’s staff, which is preparing for the former mayor’s debut on the New Hampshire campaign trail tonight, was quick to tout the endorsement as a sign of Romney’s weakness and Giuliani’s growing appeal.
This has to be a blow to the Mitt Romney campaign. Will Cellucci do television for Giuliani?
You betcha…..

Hugh Hewitt: Memo To The Hill: Take Off The Beltway Earmuffs
It’s not “nearly 10,000” signatures. It’s 16,000+ signatures.
And while your reporter couldn’t get a comment from the NRSC, the NRSC’s Chairman John Ensign was interviewed at length, by me, on yesterday’s program and the transcript posted on the web.
In fact, over the past 40 hours, I have conducted five interviews with Republican senators on the absurd dance of the resolutions underway in the Senate: Norm Coleman, John Cornyn, John Ensign, Jon Kyl and John Thune. All the transcripts are posted. Together they provide the most comprehensive coverage of the Republican internal debate over how the war will supported or the enemy encouraged. The posts at my site, Powerline, Instapundit, CaptainsQuarters, Misha, RightWingNews, Blackfive etc are a systematic and serious discussion of the war and the consequences that would flow from the embrace of any defeatist memorandum from the Senate, even one signed on to by the previously reliable-on-the-war John McCain.
Now it is, 16,712 and is increasing as Flap writes.
Flap heard Senator Ensign’s interview yesterday. The good Senator from neighboring Nevada has alot of work to do to persuade Flap and other conservatives to EVER contribute to a national GOP committee again. He was not impressive – so why bother?
Hugh has a new contact list. It is difficult to call the Senate offices but please keep trying. It seems if you are not from the Senator’s particular state they really don’t give a darn. Pretty poor treatment of fellow Americans in my book – but Flap is taking notes and will make sure none of my time or money will EVER aid those particular politicians for ANYTHING again.
The List:
Please tell the candidates in the ’08 cycle especially –Alexander, Collins, Coleman and Smith and would be presidential nominees McCain and Brownback—that a vote for the Warner resolution is the end of support for them and the NRSC.
Senator Alexander’s phone: (202) 224-4944. His e-mail is here.Senator Brownback’s phone: (202) 224-6521. His e-mail is here.Senator Coleman’s phone: (202) 224-5641.His e-mail is here.Senator Collins’ phone: (202) 224-2523. Her e-mail is here.
Senator McCain’s phone: (202) 224-2235. His campaign e-mail is here.
Senator Smith’s phone: (202) 224-3753. His e-mail is here.
Senator Voinovich’s phone: (202) 224-3353. His e-mail is here.
Senator Warner’s phone: (202) 224-2023. His e-mail is here.
The GOP leadership, which need to announce that no resolution will voted on that encourages the enemy, and that includes the Warner resolution or any cousin of the Warner resolution:
Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s phone is (202) 224-2541. His e-mail is here.
Minority Whip Trent Lott’s phone is (202) 224-6253. His e-mail is here.
Senator Jon Kyl’s phone is (202) 224-4521. His e-mail is here.
Senator John Ensign’s phone is (202) 224-6244. His e-mail is here.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Continuing Uranium enrichment
Readers: Please Vote in Flap’s January 2008 GOP Presidential Poll
A satellite image of the Natanz uranium enrichment complex in Iran. The UN watchdog International Atomic Energy Agency has sharply answered Iran, asking it to reverse its ban on 38 IAEA inspectors from working in the country, a spokeswoman told AFP. The IAEA “requested Iranian authorities to reconsider their decision,” agency spokeswoman Melissa Fleming said, in the international standoff over Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program.
AP: U.N. says Iran plans nuclear development
Iran plans to start installing thousands of centrifuges in an underground facility next month, U.N. officials said Friday, paving the way to large-scale uranium enrichment, a potential way of making nuclear weapons.
The officials, who demanded anonymity because the information was confidential, emphasized that Iranian officials had not officially said the country would embark on the assembly of what will initially be 3,000 centrifuges at Natanz. But they said senior officials have informally told the International Atomic Energy Agency the work would start next month.
And what will the United Nations Security Council do? This is a “POKE IN THE EYE” of United Nations Resolution 1737.
Probably nothing.
What should the United States and Israel do?
Take out Iran’s nuclear facilities by military force.
The “NUCLEAR POINT OF NO RETURN” has been reached…..
Stay tuned……
