Giuliani Notes: Latest New Hampshire Poll – Rudy Leads McCain?
Politico has the latest poll numbers from the Granite State:
Courtesy of WMUR/CNN. The poll was taken 2/1-2/5 and has a margin of error of +/-5.5%.
McCain: 28%
Giuliani: 27%
Romney: 13%
Gingrich: 9%
Others: 11%
Undecided: 13%
****Update:****Politico does NOT have it quite right: Here is the revised poll data:
New Hampshire residents likely to vote in the Republican presidential primary a year from now think more highly of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani than any of his rivals, a poll released Tuesday shows.
Giuliani’s net favorability rating — the proportion of people viewing him favorably minus the proportion viewing him unfavorably — was 56 percent, well ahead of Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), 32 percent, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, 26 percent, in the University of New Hampshire poll for WMUR-TV in Manchester.
“He’s the lesser-known candidate, but he has that rock star quality,” poll director Andy Smith said of Giuliani. “He has a charisma that was built after 9-11.”
This long before an election, political professionals pay more attention to favorability than voters’ choices if they had to vote today. McCain and Giuliani were essentially tied at about 27 percent on that question among likely GOP primary voters, followed by Romney at 13 percent and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at 9 percent.
The GOP portion of the telephone poll reached 311 likely voters from Thursday to Monday and had an error margin of plus or minus 5.6 percentage points.
The question is: Is Mitt Romney ever going to crack into the top two tier?

Giuliani Notes: Rudy to Deliver Commencement Address for The Citadel
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani signs an autograph during a campaign stop for the Republican State Senate Candidate Maureen O’Connell in Floral Park, New York, February 5, 2007.
AP: Giuliani to address Citadel commencement
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani will deliver the commencement address at The Citadel in the pivotal primary state of South Carolina, the military college announced Tuesday.
The former New York City mayor was asked to speak to graduates on May 5 “because of his leadership in the wake of the terrorist attacks on New York in September 2001,” the school said in a news release.
The event is not open to the public. Tickets are distributed to cadets in April, the school said.
The event will not be open to the public but you know the speech, video of the speech and photos of the Mayor with cadets will be available.
After all, it is a Presidential campaign.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Distorting Rudy’s Position on Justice Ginsburg
Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg of the United States Supreme Court
CBN: Would Giuliani Nominate a Judge Like Ruth Bader Ginsburg?
Now that Rudy Giuliani is in, his conservative critics are going to go to town on him from abortion to marriage to yes, even judges. Just recently as this weekend, Giuliani said he would appoint judges like Scalia, Alito and Roberts. That’s music to the ears of social conservatives. But, less than two years ago, in July of 2005, when he appeared on Fox’s Hannity and Colmes he said this about judges:
Host Alan Colmes:
“Now, Roe versus — now, you are pro-choice. How important is it to you as a pro-choice Republican to have a pro-choice on the court as someone…
Giuliani:“That is not the critical factor. And what’s important to me is to have a very intelligent, very honest, very good lawyer on the court. And [John Roberts] fits that category, in the same way Justice Ginsburg fit that category. I mean, she was — she maybe came at it from a very different political background, very qualified lawyer, very smart person. Lots of Republicans supported her. I expect, and listening to Senator Nelson, I expect that John Roberts will get support from a lot of Democrats.”
Now, fast forward to last night on Hannity and Colmes. Here’s Giuliani today on judges:
“I think the appointment of judges that I would make would be very similar to if not exactly the same as the last two judges that were appointed. Chief Justice Roberts is somebody I work with, somebody I admire. Justice Alito, someone I knew when he was US attorney, also admire. If I had been president over the last four years, I can’t think of any– that I’d do anything different with that.” (Emphasis Flap’s)
And the point is what?
The conclusion is that Giuliani would appoint a devout ultra-Left Liberal like former ACLU attorney, Ruth Bader Ginsburg to the United States Supreme Court?
And you reached that conclusion, how?
So, let’s try and make sense of this. Roberts is good, Alito is good. Ginsburg? Well, according to Giuliani she’s just like Roberts when it comes to being very honest, a very good lawyer and very intelligent. So it doesn’t seem he has a problem with judges like that even if they’re liberal. Will this past statement hold up under the bright lights of scrutiny from social conservatives in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, etc. More developments to come.
So, does David Brody, Capitol Hill Correspondent, even know what the Mayor was discussing in legal parlance?
Probably not.
Well, Flap will educate him.
Here is THE JUSTICE RUTH BADER GINSBURG STANDARD:
Ginsburg Applauded Roberts For Abiding By Ginsburg Precedent:
“[Justice Ginsburg] Said She Agreed With A Position Taken By Federal Judge John G. Roberts During His Confirmation Hearing To Replace The Late Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist. Roberts Invoked Ginsburg When He Refused To Speculate On How He Would Rule In Cases Before The Court.” (Estes Thompson, “Justice Ginsburg Says She’d Prefer Another Woman On Court,” The Associated Press, 9/29/05)
- Ginsburg: “Judge Roberts Was Unquestionably Right … My Rule Was I Will Not Answer A Question That Attempts To Project How I Will Rule In A Case That Might Come Before The Court.” (Estes Thompson, “Justice Ginsburg Says She’d Prefer Another Woman On Court,” The Associated Press, 9/29/05)
- Ginsburg: “‘A Judge On A Collegial Court Should Never Forecast How He Or She Would Vote On Particular Issues’ Because During The Decision-Making Process A Justice Is Exposed To Briefs, Lawyers’ Arguments And Discussions With Other Justices …” (Estes Thompson, “Justice Ginsburg Says She’d Prefer Another Woman On Court,” The Associated Press, 9/29/05)
Flap has many friends who are liberal lefties who are WRONG on political and legal issues most of the time. This does not mean they are not good lawyers or fine, smart people.
Flap would never consider his friends for appointment to any court because of their political philosphy. This is what Mayor Giuliani is saying.
Duh………
The conclusion Brody reaches is a non-sequitor and makes NO sense.
Giuliani is clear on what judicial philosophy he would wish on nominees to the Court. Go here and either listen to the Mayor or read the transcript.
If the Christian RIGHT wants to distort the Mayor’s record and trash him, they will have to do better than this.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Leads McCain 27 – 19 in Latest National Poll
Rasmussen Reports: 2008 GOP Primary: Giuliani 27% McCain 19% Gingrich 13%
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) has moved a step closer to officially enter the 2008 race for the White House, but polling in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination remains little changed. Giuliani attracts 27% of the vote, down from 29% a week ago. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that Senator John McCain (news, bio, voting record)’s (R) support has held steady at 19% among Likely GOP Primary voters.
While Giuliani and McCain remain in the top two slots, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) dropped a few points and now is favored by 13%. Trailing Gingrich is former Massachusetts Mitt Romney (R) at 9% and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) at 4%.
Political Perceptions:
McCain:
Over the past month, ideological perceptions of John McCain have shifted somewhat. Today, 28% of American voters view the Arizona Senator as politically conservative. That’s up from 16% in December. However, that shift is not helping McCain in the GOP competition because most of the change has come from Democrats and unaffiliated voters who are now more likely to see McCain as politically conservative than moderate.
In fact, while a plurality of Democrats and unaffiliated voters see McCain as conservative, a majority of Republicans see the Senator as politically moderate.
Giuliani:
Perceptions of Giuliani have not shifted in the past month. Most Americans (52%), and two-thirds of Republicans (66%), see Giuliani as politically moderate. A plurality of Democrats and unaffiliated voters share that assessment. Among all voters, 28% see the former Mayor as politically conservative while 12% see him as liberal.
Those perceptions help explain why Giuliani consistently outperforms McCain in general election match-ups against leading Democrats. Giuliani leads up against every Democrat including Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barack Obama, former Senator John Edwards, and former Vice President Al Gore.
And why Rudy Giuliani will win the Presidency. An electoral map would show Rudy winning more states than George W Bush, including California and possibly New York.
