Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy – 100 Per Cent Committed to Running for President
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is considering seeking the Republican nomination for president, holds up a book about two of his heroes, former President Ronald Reagan and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, as he speaks at the Churchill Club in Santa Clara, Calif., Monday, Feb. 12, 2007.
San Francisco Chronicle: Giuliani says he’s ‘100 percent committed’ to running for president
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, insisting he is “100 percent committed” to running for the 2008 Republican nomination for president, wooed Silicon Valley insiders Monday – saying he is a strong believer in global warming, praising Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger as a “progressive” leader on the environment, and calling for immigration policies that welcome “people who make contributions” to America’s economy.
Giuliani spoke to about 500 Silicon Valley members of the Churchill Club at the Hyatt in Santa Clara Monday, meeting privately beforehand with a handful of top executives and then with about 100 potential supporters at a VIP reception.
In his hour-long talk — an informal address in which he ranged before the audience with just a microphone and no podium — the New York mayor took positions which could pose problems with more conservative Republicans, but which may endear him to the libertarian, moderate tech crowd which has been courted by candidates on both sides as a potential source of big campaign dollars.
Well, Rudy on Saturday during his speech before the California GOP said he did not like the podium and was accustomed to speaking in a more informal manner.
Giuliani also crafted his message to a more moderate audience by talking about the environment and praising Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who is very popular among pro-business Republicans and Independents in California.
AP: Giuliani closing in on presidential bid
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Monday defended the Iraq war and criticized Al Gore’s global-warming movie.
When asked about former Vice President Al Gore’s Oscar-nominated documentary about global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,” Giuliani criticized the film as lacking in solutions.
Giuliani said he believes global warming is occurring but is not sure how much is caused by humans, and suggested the U.S. should look at expanding its use of nuclear power and other alternative energy sources.
Sounds like a different spin of the same speech but the first story was to a San Francisco audience.
Giuliani also said he supports Governor Schwarzenegger’s efforts to move the 2008 California Presidential primary election from June to Super Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
Giuliani, a Republican, said he supports efforts to move California’s 2008 presidential primary from June to February, a shift that would allow him to compete outside of conservative early voting states where his stands on gays, guns and abortion have been viewed as too liberal.
A number of other states are also considering moving up their primaries.
Sounds to Flap that Rudy is developing his “stump” speech.
Tomorrow Hizzoner will be in Fresno.
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is considering seeking the Republican nomination for president, wipes his brow as he answers a question during a speech to the Churchill Club in Santa Clara, Calif., Monday, Feb. 12, 2007.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Too Late to Halt Iran’s Nuclear Bomb?
Financial Times: Too late to halt Iran’s nuclear bomb, EU is told
Iran will be able to develop enough weapons-grade material for a nuclear bomb and there is little that can be done to prevent it, an internal European Union document has concluded.
In an admission of the international community’s failure to hold back Iran’s nuclear ambitions, the document – compiled by the staff of Javier Solana, EU foreign policy chief – says the atomic programme has been delayed only by technical limitations rather than diplomatic pressure. “Attempts to engage the Iranian administration in a negotiating process have not so far succeeded,†it states.
The downbeat conclusions of the “reflection paper†– seen by the Financial Times – are certain to be seized on by advocates of military action, who fear that Iran will be able to produce enough fissile material for a bomb over the next two to three years. Tehran insists its purposes are purely peaceful.
“At some stage we must expect that Iran will acquire the capacity to enrich uranium on the scale required for a weapons programme,†says the paper, dated February 7 and circulated to the EU’s 27 national governments ahead of a foreign ministers meeting yesterday.
“In practice . . . the Iranians have pursued their programme at their own pace, the limiting factor being technical difficulties rather than resolutions by the UN or the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“The problems with Iran will not be resolved through economic sanctions alone.â€
Well, Duh and the European Union are just coming to these conclusions? Either they are stupidly naive or just stupid. The Iranians have been stalling the world with the false hope of negotiations for many years.
Iran and its Theocracy covet nuclear weapons so they can exert their hegemony over Israel and the rest of the Middle East.
Only military force will deter Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Iran is NOT North Korea. Negotiations will NEVER succeed and neither will sanctions.
Military destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities and regime change are the only options.
And it is also not the time for President Bush to wimp out.
Stay tuned……

North Korea Watch: North Korea Tentatively Agrees to Nuclear Disarmament
AP: Tentative Deal in N. Korea Nuclear Talks
The U.S. envoy to talks on North Korea’s nuclear program said Tuesday that negotiators reached a tentative agreement on initial steps for the communist nation’s disarmament.
Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill said the agreement outlined specific commitments for North Korea and would set up working groups to implement those goals to begin meeting in about a month. He declined to give other details.
“I’m encouraged by this that we were able to take a step forward on the denuclearization issue,” Hill said.
Good News but deploy National Missile defense anyway. The goal will be to make North Korea like Libya. And keep the North Korean nucelar scientists there and not emigrate to Iran.
Peace through strength?

Giuliani Notes: Early New York Primary?
New York Post: BOTH PARTIES’ POLS PUSH EARLY NEW YORK PRIMARY
New York officials, hoping to boost the candidacies of Hillary Rodham Clinton and Rudy Giuliani, are secretly discussing moving the presidential primary to early February, The Post has learned.
Democratic and GOP legislative officials – including Republicans in touch with the Giuliani campaign – last week began talking about advancing the March 4 vote to Feb. 5, the same date that California and Florida will likely hold primaries.
“The thinking is that it’s all going to be over very fast early next year and that Rudy can get a big boost from New York if we move the primary right up to the beginning of February,” said a senior Republican official involved with the talks.
NOPE
An early birthday present for Rudy……

Victory Caucus Watch: The Beginning
Hugh Hewitt: The Defeatists Take Center Stage In The House
This is the week the House has set to encourage the enemey in Iraq. The Los Angeles Times, ever precise, predicts between 30 and 60 Republicans will vote for the Democrats’ white flag resolution.
As with the pledge about the NRSC, I won’t be supporting any Republicans indifferent to the effect of these resolutions on our enemy and our own troops.
The Victory Caucus opened today, and watching the House debate should make for a vigorous debate among its members. If you believe in winning the war, sign up at the Caucus.
Flap has joined the Victory Caucus.
And like with the Pledge, Flap will not be supporting any GOP Representative for election/re-election or the National Republican Congressional Committee should they support/vote for any anti-Iraq War, anti American troop resolution.
So, get over there and register.
Flap knows you will be glad you did.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: California GOP Convention Post Mortem
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani gestures during his address at the California Republican Party convention in Sacramento, Calif., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007. Giuliani’s remarks touched topics from health care, to crime, to terrorism to Iraq, in a speech laden with references to a possible bid for president.
New West Notes: Republican Delegates Stay Right But Accept Center
An interesting weekend for California Republicans gathered in convention in Sacramento. They gave a tepid reception to moderate Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and a rousing reception to moderate presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani. Then turned around and elected a very conservative party leadership.
Former New York Mayor Giuliani turned in an impressive performance in his luncheon keynote address Saturday. There in the ballroom of the Hyatt Regency at Capitol Park, Schwarzenegger’s state capital residence, as it happens, Giuliani received a much more rousing response than did Schwarzenegger Friday night at the convention’s opening banquet. Giuliani’s roughly 45-minute address was interrupted several times by standing ovations.
Giuliani did not formally declare his candidacy for president, a prevalent rumor beforehand, but made it obvious that he has every intention of running, joking after that perhaps he had actually announced, but would wait for the standard routine of announcing “in five places.†In fact, he is on a campaign swing though the Golden State that began last night with a fundraiser and private meetings and continues through Tuesday.
Bill Bradley gives a great round-up of the weekend events – so read it all. Flap met Bill for the first time on Saturday and he put in a good word for blogs, and the new media with Patrick Dorinson, the Communications Director of the California GOP.
Bradley was writing for Pajamas Media – heh!
Bear Flag League member, Kevin Korenthal at SoCalPundit also has a convention wrap-up.
Allen Hoffenblum talks to a reporter in the CRP Press Room
The Speech:
But while many Republicans in attendance, like veteran consultant-turned-California Target Book publisher Allen Hoffenblum, who called Giuliani’s performance “masterful, the work of the best Republican candidate available, one who can win,†not all were enthralled. New West friend Karen Hanretty, the frequent Fox News commentator and former California Republican communications director, acknowledged the 9/11 figure’s appeal to Republicans hungry for some hope at the national level but on her blog was not a huge fan.
Karen Hanretty of Fox News talks to Robert Salladay of the Los Angeles Times and the Political Muscle blog.
Karen Hanretty: America’s Mayor “Wishes” You’d Vote for Him for President
This afternoon, at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Sacramento, I watched former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani give a really long, rather rambling speech to about 700 mostly conservative Republicans at the state party’s semi-annual convention…
While the media and generic polling put America’s Mayor as the lead candidate for the Republican Party nomination, I think he has a long way to go before he convinces a majority of conservative voters – because that’s who turns out to vote in primary elections – that he is the man to lead the nation and the party for the next four to eight years.
Yes, he showed extraordinary leadership in the horrifying aftermath of the World Trade Center bombings. But so did President George W. Bush. It was, in fact, Bush’s finest hour – the point at which he was most confident, articulate and reassuring to a nation in need of a leader. However, more than three years later is he one of the most unpopular U.S. Presidents in our nation’s history with little chance of recovering before he boards Air Force One for one last trip to his ranch in Crawford, Texas.
Therefore, there must be more to Rudy Giuliani as a candidate for President of the United States than 9/11.
And there is more. A great deal more. The theme of “accountability” comes to mind.
His speech today, however, did not embrace all that he has to offer. It was disconnected and at times uncomfortable. He does not speak of what it means to be a Republican with any sense of natural ease.
Giuliani’s speech writers and coach should read all of Karen’s piece. She is spot-on.
Rudy’s speech was rambling, too long and diid not embrace in detail why he wants to be America’s President. There were glimpses but as more than one delegate told Flap, Rudy did not deliver the knock out blow.
Make no mistake about it, it is early and Giuliani is a natural speaker. His stump speech has to be more on specifics. 9/11 can be a component and invokes pathos but Rudy cannot ride 9/11 to victory. He must address other issues:
Hint: Private vs Universal government financed and run health care (Private vs Hillary/Obama Care).
Hint: Securing the Mexican Border and enforcing employment laws with regards to illegal aliens
Hint: Pledging to fully fund our Armed Services, National Missile Defense and growing the military with an all-volunteer Army.
Hint: Reform and fund Social Security
Hint: The growing threat of “Radical Islam” and Islamofascists
Hint: The immediate threat of a “NUCLEAR” Iran.
The GOP Opposition:
That is it folks.
No literature, and a few pins for Mitt. Nada……..
And finally…….
