Rudy Giuliani Watch: The Spartanburg Straw Poll
Hotline: Spartanburg Straw Poll Tonight: A Preview
In the Spartanburg, South Carolina Straw Poll, Fox News is reporting:
Rudy Giuliani 108
Duncan Hunter 80
John McCain 64
Mitt Romney 53
This shows the popularity of Mayor Giuliani.
Rudy Giuliani is NOW the front runner for the GOP nomination for President.
A WIN for the Mayor……
Update #1 – From fox News @ 10 PM EST With 71 of 75 precincts reporting
Rudy Giuliani 123
Duncan Hunter 110
John McCain 86
Sam Brownback 68
Mitt Romney 59
Update #2 11:15 PM EST
A spokesman for Giuliani said the numbers, while small overall, were encouraging.
“I think this is one small event of a very, very, long campaign, but it’s a clear indication that the mayor’s message of leadership and his proven track record is resonating,” Elliot Bundy said.
McCain’s third place finish is not a reflection of his strength in South Carolina, campaign spokesman Adam Temple said.
“There’s going to be many polls between now and election day,” Temple said.
Romney’s campaign said it was pleased with the former governor’s finish.
“I think we outperformed where we’ve been, where all the public polls that had us at 5 and 6 percent,” spokesman Terry Sullivan said.
Flap’s assessment:
A definite WIN for Giuliani in a southern conservative state where he was NOT supposed to do well according to the pundits.
A definite thumping to Mitt Romney and John McCain
An uplift for Duncan Hunter of California – is Hunter emerging as another top tier candidate?

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Time Magazine Poll – Rudy 38% McCain 24% Romney 7%
TIME Poll: Giuliani’s Lead Widens
According to the new TIME poll, Giuliani now leads his closest rival for the Republican nomination, Senator John McCain of Arizona, by 14 points (38% to 24%) among registered Republicans and those who are leaning toward the G.O.P. In January, a TIME poll showed McCain ahead by 4 points — a startling swing of 18 points.
The core of Giuliani’s strength is in the Northeast, where he has a 50% to 23% advantage over McCain. But even in the West, he leads McCain by 5 points. The poll, conducted for Time by Schulman, Ronca & Bucuvalas Public Affairs (SRBI), surveyed 1,144 registered voters by phone from Feb. 23-26. It has a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points.
Third among the Republicans in Time’s poll, with 12%, was former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney was at 7%. The rest of the Republican field polled in the very low single digits. If the G.O.P. field were limited to Giuliani, McCain and Romney, the former mayor would have a slightly more commanding lead, 49% to McCain’s 30%, with Romney at 12%.
Is this one of the reasons that Mitt Romney is WEAKLY attacking the Mayor?
You betcha……
Now, will McCain join in the mud?
He has a track record of it – remember South Carolina in 2000?
But Flap again reminds the candidates of the GOP’s 11th Commandment:
“Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.â€
The favorability ratings:
And in the silly poll categories:
Rudy Giuliani is the presidential candidate that most voters say would:
* Do the best at a speed dating event (16% say Giuliani, with Obama coming in second at 13% and Clinton in third at 12%);
* Be the best boss to work for (18% say Giuliani with Obama coming in second at 16% and Clinton in third at 14%).However, most voters say that Hillary Clinton (19%) would be the best teammate on the TV show The Apprentice with Giuliani in second at 14% and Obama in third at 11%.
Stay tuned……

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Mitt Romney Attacks Rudy?
Kavon had mentioned yesterday about Bill Simon, the Giuliani campaigns, Director of Policy on Fox News responding to a story that Romney to Begin Giuliani Attack Campaign?
Or the start, right before CPAC?
And how will the Giuliani camp respond?Well, the Flapster is not a part of the Giuliani campaign but supports the Mayor for President.
Flaps response:
1. Romney looks and sounds WEAK
2. Romney, THE FLIPPER, lives in a glass house…..
3. Romney should remember the GOP’s 11th Commandment: “Thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow Republican.â€
4. Romney should get his FACTS straight: Mayor Giuliani does NOT support Gay Marriage.
The overall impression: Mitt Romney looks uncomfortable attacking the Mayor.
Update:
The Giuliani campaign responds:
Giuliani spokeswoman Katie Levinson replied: “Mayor Giuliani has the utmost respect for Governor Romney. The mayor’s position on gay marriage has been both clear and consistent — he does not support gay marriage and believes marriage should be between a man a woman.”
