AP: Libby found guilty in CIA leak case
Former White House aide I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby was convicted Tuesday of obstruction, perjury and lying to the FBI in an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative’s identity.
Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was accused of lying and obstructing the investigation into the 2003 leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity to reporters.
He was acquitted of one count of lying to the FBI.
Well, you have to tell the truth. But, this is a politically contrived and complicated case.
First, the appeal which will drag on for years and then a pardon if the appeal fails.
Flap doubts Libby will ever see the inside of a jail cell.

AP: Giuliani plans trip to Iowa next month
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani is planning his first campaign trip to Iowa next month, a sign that he is considering competing in the early voting state where social conservatives dominate the GOP caucuses.
The Giuliani campaign said Tuesday that the former New York City mayor plans a few days of events in the state the week of April 2.
Obviously the Mayor’s pollsters have detected an opportunity. But, will the Mayor have enough “boots on the ground” to navigate the complicated GOP caucus?
Or why bother when California, New York, New Jersey, Florida and Illinois are in play on February 5?
Interesting…….

Rasmussen Reports: 2008 Republican Presidential Primary
Giuliani Leads McCain by 15
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) continues to lead to pack of hopefuls for the GOP nomination. Support for Giuliani among those likely to vote in a Republican Presidential primary inched up to 34% this week following two straight weeks at the 33% level.
Arizona Senator John McCain (R) remains in second place, fifteen points behind the current frontrunner. With support from 19% of Likely Voters, McCain has picked up two points from last week.
But, this poll includes Newt Gingrich with 12 per cent who has recently indicated he is no McCain fan and who has had some nice things to say about Giuliani.

Giuliani currently leads all Democrats in General Election match-ups. This includes Senator Hillary Clinton, Senator Barack Obama, former Senator John Edwards, Governor Bill Richardson, and Senator Joe Biden.

Mayor Rudy Giuliani returns today to the Silicon Valley for a fundraising breakfast.
Following a successful fundraising event yesterday evening that was reported to have raised over $700,000, the Mayor travels north today to woo high tech conservatives.
Republican presidential hopeful Rudolph Giuliani is making an aggressive play for conservative backers in California — courting their endorsements and collecting their campaign checks in a strategy that political observers say could have a big payoff in the nation’s most populous state.
And with strong support from Floyd Kvamme — one of President Bush’s top high-tech advisers and a founder of the Technology Network advocacy group — Giuliani will return to Silicon Valley today to star at a fundraising breakfast aimed at introducing him to influential conservatives in the business and high-tech community.
California is “IN PLAY” and expect the Mayor to raise funds as well as actively stump for votes – something that California has not seen since 1960.

The question is asked: Can Rudy Win?
The Mayor leads all national GOP polls, his fundraising is good and people are turning out to his events.
Obviously, the BUZZ is that he CAN and WILL win the GOP nomination AND that he is the best GOP candidate poised to beat Hillary Clinton, the presumed Democrat nominee.
But, the best indicator: the New York Times and ABC News stalk Rudy’s son, Andrew and spew out the “POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION.”
