Giuliani Notes: Attorney General Gonzales Should Be Given Benefit of the Doubt

    giulianimarch22mweb

Republican Presidential hopeful and former mayor of New York City Rudy Giuliani speaks at the the National Newspaper Association’s annual Government Affairs Conference in Washington March 22, 2007.

AP: Giuliani: Give Gonzales benefit of doubt

Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani, a former U.S. attorney in New York, said Thursday that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should get “the benefit of the doubt” in the uproar over the firings of federal prosecutors.

“The president has addressed it,” Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, said. “The attorney general’s an honorable man. He’s a decent man. He should be given a chance to explain and everybody should sort of give him the benefit of the doubt and allow him to explain.”

Republicans and Democrats alike have questioned Gonzales’ leadership and some have called for him to resign as Congress investigates whether the firings of eight prosecutors over the past year were politically motivated.

The Alberto Gonzalez Flap is a tempest in a teapot and a pure political ploy to help the Democrats regain the White House in 2008.

On the O’Reilly Show on Fox this evening, Bill outlined the problems with three of the United States Attorneys who were fired.

The White House should take the hint and allow the AG to explain the circumstances of the dismissals.

    Rudy is right.

Hugh Hewitt: The Continuing Collapse Of The Los Angeles Times UPDATE: Martinez Resigns

A few days back The Los Angeles Times trumpeted “the launch of a quarterly guest editor program for Current, the Sunday edition commentary section. Brian Grazer, Oscar® and Emmy®-winning writer-producer, has been chosen to oversee the debut and future guest editors will be similarly intriguing personalities from the worlds of politics, business, culture, entertainment and sports.”

In a blow certain to further erode the paper’s almost non-existent credibility, it has been revealed that Andres Martinez, the editorial page editor and overseer of the project, has been in a relationship with Grazier’s publicist.

Bill Boyarsky has the details. Nikke Finke has much more.

Nikke Finke has this post on Martinez’s resignation.

What a MESS at the Times.

    Ehrlich To Endorse Giuliani

Former Maryland governor Robert Ehrlich is expected Thursday to endorse fellow Republican Rudy Giuliani’s candidacy for president.

Ehrlich tells The Washington Post that he believes Giuliani is the strongest candidate. Ehrlich is also expected to say that he will serve as the regional chairman for Giuliani’s campaign.

Ehrlich says he will be raising money and giving speeches on Giuliani’s behalf. He says he and Giuliani have become friends in recent years and Giuliani campaigned for him in his races for governor.

The Democrat controlled Senate will issue subpoenastoday and the White House will rescind its offer to allow advisors Karl Rove and Harriet Miers to speak privately with Senators and Representatives.  And the President will be sustained by the SCOTUS.

A tempest in a teapot that will soon blow over – providing the White House stands its ground.

Giuliani Notes: The Comments – Rudy NOT Fit for the White House?

    alairmarch20bweb

Remember Rudy NOT Fit for the White House and the sham poll of New York Business.com powered by Crain’s written by an online intern,

    Here is a poll screenshot:

    alarimarch20gweb

Now, they are reporting the results and comments.

A majority of respondents to a Crain’s online poll agree with columnist Alair Townsend, who wrote in this week’s issue that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani doesn’t have the temperament to be an effective president. Nearly 68% of 1,303 poll respondents believe that Mr. Giuliani would be too abrasive for the White House, while 32% said his style would translate well. Here are some of respondents’ comments:

But, look at some of the comments:

“Who does Townsend think she’s kidding? She never voted – ever, for Giuliani. How soon we forget post 9/11, and the leadership qualities that Giuliani displayed! Speaking about changes in Washington, just look at the new majority(s) track record to date, no constructive plans for war, the economy, or the safety of our country, especially the border issues. Townsend needs to get a life and be more objective about important national issues.” —Vincent Mocerino

“Our country and every country need a decision maker that will stick it in your eye. Is there any other style that the bad guys understand?” —M. Philip Butler

“We need a decision maker in Washington, a person not afraid of the job. If he cocks up he will not be re-elected. Washington is full of compromise, we need action. He is a quick study and has guts.” —August Spieler

“Alair Townsend has no concept of what it takes to get things done. Decisive leadership often causes a great deal of friction. Rudy would be a breath of fresh air in the White House.” —Rob Salvatico

“So, most New Yorkers that answered this poll didn’t like him. Let’s remember 2004 when most NYers said ‘…everyone voted for Kerry.’ NYC is not the U.S. and the U.S. is not NYC. His message plays well in Pioria. You have to look beyond the concrete canyons of NYC to see what the rest of the U.S. is thinking.” —J. S. Ghanooni

“You phrase the question negatively, which introduces a bias. Giuliani is an effective and proven leader. The question should be ‘Do Nancy Pelosi, John Murtha and Charles Rangel have the temperament to work constructively with any Republican in the White House?’” —Bruce Kowal

    *******

Does this sound like a 30% minority?

Townsend, nice try to plant a negative story on Rudy and spread it through the internet.

But, your bull doesn’t pass the smell test…….
