Giuliani Notes: South Carolina – Rudy Takes the Lead
Poll puts Giuliani, Clinton in lead in SC
A new poll has some good news for Rudy Giuliani and Hillary Clinton in South Carolina.
The SCIndex has Giuiliani leading among likely Republican voters, with 29 percent, followed by John McCain at 16 percent and Mitt Romney with eight percent.
Giuliani’s current lead is built primarily on support from women. Thirty-seven percent of all female Republican presidential primary voters indicate that they support the former New York Mayor. Fifteen percent of women who plan to vote in the Republican presidential primary support John McCain. McCain and Giuliani split support among male voters with each candidate getting 20 percent of their vote.
 The NUTS:
Rudy – 29%
McCain – 16%
Romney – 8 %
In this supposedly very socially conservative GOP state, Rudy continues to poll well. And especially with women.
Might you suppose his pro-choice position on abortion is more mainstream in the GOP than some social conservatives admit?
Mitt Romney who has flip-flopped on the abortion issue continues below double digits.

Giuliani Notes: The FEAR of Rudy
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani poses for photos with soldiers about to deploy for Iraq, Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Atlanta. Giuliani made his first swing through Georgia since announcing his bid for the White House.
The New York Times FEARS Rudy’s election to the presidency.
It’s not quite as pronounced as Erica Jong’s “Fear of Flying” but the “Fear of Rudy” is nonetheless palpable beneath the NYT’s routine thumbsucker “Some in G.O.P. Express Worry Over ’08 Hopes” by Adam Nagourney and John M. Broder. (subtext: I hope they lose, I hope they lose, Please, God, I hope they lose!)
This is the kind of article the Times prints as serious journalistic analysis when even the slightest perusal demonstrates the usual tawdry mix of bias and wish fulfillment. To make their point they have to resort to the by now comically tired cliché that McCain was once the “presumed front-runner.” To whom? Not to anyone paying the slightest attention to the campaign. McCain has been trumped by Giuliani in virtually every poll for the last year. Slaughtered (scroll down at the link) might even be a more apt description. In the most recent Gallup Poll of a couple of days ago, Rudy stands at 38% and McCain at a declining 16. Add Thompson, Romney and Gingrich into the total and only then – put together – do they pass Rudy … and only by four percent.
The New York Times started early. Remember this piece?
The Editors want a Democrat as President so bad they can taste it. So, should we all surrender to the great Hillary?
NOPE
Flap reads the polls and sees the enthusiasm for Rudy at the GOP rallies. Flap talks to the voters.
The New York Times has alot to FEAR.
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani makes remarks at a news conference at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in Atlanta.

Iran Watch: I’m Sorry for Selling My Story Says Iran-UK Hostage Mr. Bean
Many serving soldiers were unimpressed by Arthur Batchelor’s tears after being called Mr Bean
I’m sorry for selling my story, says Iran hostage Mr Bean
Servicemen have rounded on the sailors who sold their stories of being held captive by Iran.
A series of messages on forces’ websites ridiculed Arthur Batchelor and Faye Turney, who cashed in after being held prisoner for 13 days.
Today they were forced onto the defensive, with Seaman Batchelor claiming he had got so little money from the deal he could barely afford to pay for a driving test.
The 20-year-old’s admission came as Defence Secretary Des Browne admitted his decision to allow the former hostages to sell their stories to the media was wrong, and Conservative leader David Cameron demanded an inquiry into the “calamitous” decision.
Calamitous? More like another COCK-UP of the previous COCK-UP.
Are these Brits pathetic or what?
Now, even their own countrymen are going after them.
What does Mr. Bean have to do with this MESS?
Watch and you will understand:
Seaman Batchelor has also admitted he “let the Royal Navy down” and “disappointed his comrades” by selling his story to the media.
He said he would not have accepted the money had he known the MoD would later reverse its decision to allow the hostages to be paid to talk to the press.
Speaking to the Plymouth Evening Herald newspaper, he said: “To be honest, I feel a bit strange about the situation. One minute they’re (the MoD) are telling us we can, and the next they’re saying ‘no more’.”
Seaman Batchelor’s claim that he cried himself to sleep after his Iranian captors likened him to the comedy character Mr Bean made him a laughing stock. One serving soldier posted: “Batchelor didn’t do the reputation of servicemen much good either! Being broken by being called Mr Bean FFS! – that must be on a par with Monty Python’s Spanish Inquisition and the comfy cushions.”
Comments left on unofficial forces’ websites, the Rum Ration and the British Army Rumour Service laid into Ms Turney and Mr Batchelor.
Maybe if the Brits recognize the problem there is hope for them.
But, Flap is not so sure.

Fred Thompson Watch: Thompson Has Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
In this frame grab suppled by Fox News, Republican Fred Thompson, right, the actor-politician who is considering a bid for president, pictured, is intervewed by Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto in New York, Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Thompson, 64, told Cavuto that he has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a form of cancer, but hasn’t been ill or had any symptoms.
AP: Fred Thompson Says He Has Cancer
Republican Fred Thompson, the actor-politician who is considering a bid for president, said Wednesday he has lymphoma, a form of cancer.
In an interview with Fox News, the former Tennessee senator said he is in remission and the diagnosis shouldn’t affect his life expectancy.
Thompson, 64, told Fox News Channel’s Neil Cavuto that he has non- Hodgkin’s lymphoma, but hasn’t been ill or had any symptoms.
“I am in remission and it is very treatable with drugs if treatment is needed in the future,” the Republican said in a statement to Fox.
Lymphoma is an immune-system cancer that strikes more than 71,000 Americans a year. The vast majority have the non-Hodgkin’s form of lymphoma, a term that encompasses more than 30 different subtypes of the disease.
Some of these subtypes are termed “indolent,” meaning they typically respond well to treatment—patients often go into remission for long periods, but the disease is not cured and may need to be battled back again periodically.
Obviously, Fred Thompson will NOT be a serious contender for the Presidency in 2008. Flap wishes him well but his health at age 64 does not bode well for the stressful and demanding job of the presidency.
This revelation alone is a disqualifier.
But, interesting that this comes out now after a few polls where he has polled better than Mitt Romney and the hordes of third tier candidates. Shouldn’t have Thompson’s health status been released earlier?
But, in any event, put a fork in him for 2008 – Thompson is done.
