Dentistry Today: Prevention of Infective Endocarditis – Guidelines from the American Heart Association April 2007
Dentists and Physicians discuss infective endocarditis over at My Dental Forum.ComAmerican Dental Association: Infective Endocarditis
For decades, the American Heart Association (AHA) recommended that patients with certain heart conditions take antibiotics shortly before dental treatment. This was done with the belief that antibiotics would prevent infective endocarditis (IE), previously referred to as bacterial endocarditis. The AHA’s latest guidelines were published in its scientific journal, Circulation, in April 2007 and there is good news: the AHA recommends that most of these patients no longer need short-term antibiotics as a preventive measure before their dental treatment.
The American Dental Association participated in the development of the new guidelines and has approved those portions relevant to dentistry. The guidelines were also endorsed by the Infectious Diseases Society of America and by the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society.
The summary of major changes in the April 2007 updated document:
Dental Procedures for which Endocarditis Prophylaxis is Recommended for Patients in Table 3:
Regimens for a Dental Procedure:
This is a radical change of paradigm of LESS not DIFFERENT or MORE in treatment of prophylactic treatment of infective endocarditis in the dental office.
Flap foresees much confusion between the medical and dental communities unless communication is open, shared and quickly implemented.
For Total Joint Replacements these guidelines remain in place.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Campaigns in Texas
Rudy Giuliani, presidential hopeful and former mayor of New York, adjusts his glasses while addressing issues ranging from terrorist attacks to health care during the MSC Wiley Lecture Series Friday, April 20, 2007, at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas.
Giuliani says winning war on terror vital to country’s future
Texas Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani today told a crowd at Texas A-and-M University that the country’s freedom and economic prosperity is tied to the country winning the war on terror.
The former New York City mayor appeared before about 25-hundred people.
He reiterated his support for President Bush’s handling of the war on terror and the conflict in Iraq, saying both are examples of how the country has gone on the offensive in trying to defeat terrorism.
Giuliani also continued to be critical of efforts by Democrats in Congress to place a timetable on troop withdrawal from Iraq.
Giuliani’s message garnered applause throughout his 30-minute speech at the conservative campus. Some in the crowd hissed when told that school officials hoped to have some of the Democratic presidential candidates speak in the fall.
Former President George H.W. Bush — whose presidential library is on campus — introduced Giuliani, praising his handling of events in New York City after the terrorist attacks.

Giuliani Notes: Gallup Poll – Rudy 35% McCain 22% Thompson 10% Romney 9% Gingrich 7%
The Gallup Poll: Giuliani and McCain Maintain Hold on Top Two Positions in GOP Field
Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani continues to hold first place in the race for the Republican 2008 presidential nomination with a slightly better than 10-point lead over Arizona Sen. John McCain, 35% to 22%. After a brief expansion of Giuliani’s lead over McCain earlier this month, the race is essentially back to where it was in late March.
The latest USA Today/Gallup poll, conducted April 13-15, 2007, finds three other candidates jockeying for third place, only one of whom — former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney — is an announced candidate. Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson is closely matched with Romney. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, who is openly contemplating a run, is also a contender for third. All other Republicans included in the trial heat question receive 2% or less support from Republicans.
The GOP NUTS:
Rudy v. McCain:
Rudy in all of the polls today is maintaining his double digit lead over the field and Senator McCain.
Frankly, the only warning sign is here:
Six in 10 Republicans say they are pleased with the selection of candidates definitely running for the Republican nomination at this point.
One-third of Republicans say they wish someone else would get into the GOP race, but it is not clear what these potential voters are looking for in such a candidate.
Giuliani ranks first among those wanting someone else to run, it is with a somewhat lower 30% than the 37% he receives from Republicans who are satisfied with the field.
On the other hand:
With Giuliani and McCain both having difficulty burnishing their conservative credentials, particularly on social issues, one might assume that conservative Republicans are especially anxious to have someone else enter the fray. However, moderate and conservative Republicans are similar on this question, with conservatives only slightly more likely to say they wish someone else would run (34% vs. 27%).
The GOP field has solidified and Rudy remains stable with a double digit lead in the polls.
Look for McCain and/or his surrogates to go NEGATIVE and quick. Was this an opening shot?

Harris Interactive: Rudy Giuliani Leads John McCain By More Than 2-to-1 In Race for Republican Nomination

John McCain Watch: A Reckless President?
Now, the LEFT is getting into the action.
Check out this Moveon.org You Tube Video:
Can you imagine the Democrat candidate Presidential campaign television commercials against McCain for this Macaca moment?
Here is the original video:
PUT A FORK IN MCCAIN FOR PRESIDENT – HE IS DONE.By the way, when will Iran or the Mullahs respond?
Update:
“It comes as no surprise that America’s most liberal interest group would attack John McCain’s belief that we cannot allow Iran to destroy Israel,” said spokesman Matt David. “After all, MoveOn.org posted ads comparing President Bush to Hitler during the last presidential election.”
And Fox News is showing the Senator being asked to clarify his remarks on camera and the Senator tells the reporter to “Lighten up” and “Get A Life.”
Weak Sauce Senator……….

Giuliani Notes: Rudy 35% McCain 16% Romney 10% Gingrich 9% Thompson 8% in Latest Fox News Poll
Fox News: The Fox News Poll
Polling was conducted by telephone April 17-18, 2007, in the evenings. The total sample is 900 registered voters nationwide with a margin of error of ±3 percentage points. Results are of registered voters, unless otherwise noted. LV = likely voters
The GOP NUTS:Multi-candidate Field:
Note: In this poll McCain is declining after a few weeks of even performance in the 20 percentile range and Romney has gained a bit, while Rudy is maintaining his double digit lead. Fred Thompson is making some impact but is not catching fire.
First and Second GOP choices:
Note: The Mayor continues an overwhelming lead.
The Big Four Poll:
Note: Giuliani leads McCain by 21 points and Romney by 30 of all voters. In the GOP voters his lead is higher – in the 30 plus point range.
Now, let’s look at favorability ratings:
Note:
Rudy leads the field – as he has done for weeks.
Hillary Clinton has more unfavorable opinions than any of the other Democrat candidates in the field.
Mitt Romney albeit remaining an unknown has more unfavorable opinions than favorable.
GOP Party has more unfavorable than favorable.
Analysis:
So, what does all of this mean?
Rudy continues to lead the field by double digits, remains highest in favorability with voters, his GOP opponents are not threatening and his main general election opponent Hillary Clinton has the highest unfavorability rating of any Democrat.
Fundraising should pick up for Hizzoner as the institutional GOP donors realize that McCain, Romney, nor Thompson will be able to beat Rudy.
Flap’s predictions have been:
1. McCain will fade by Labor Day 2007 and withdraw before the first primary
2. Thompson will NOT enter the race
3. Gingrich will NOT enter the race
The early primary season will be Rudy vs. Romney and will be over on February 5, 2008 when Rudy buries Romney electorally on Super Duper Tuesday.
