Rudy Giuliani Watch: Rudy on Offense and Democrats Don’t Like It

Rudy on offense: Dems don’t like it

AT A SPEECH in Manchester on Tuesday night, Rudy Giuliani reportedly said that if a Democrat is elected President, Americans should prepare for another 9/11. Democrats went nuts. But Giuliani did not say that.

The man who was mayor of New York City on 9/11 said only this: Republican Presidential candidates advocate staying on the offensive in the War on Terror, while Democratic Presidential candidates seem to advocate going back on the defensive. That being the case, Giuliani said, America would be safer if a Republican were elected President.

Sen. Barack Obama responded that Giuliani “has taken the politics of fear to a new low.” Balderdash. On the same day Giuliani spoke, Obama delivered a foreign policy address in which he asserted that his plan for thwarting terrorists would make America safer. Unless he is prepared to say that every Republican candidate would make America equally as safe as he would, then his gripe against Giuliani is nothing but hollow rhetoric.

Giuliani said that Republicans have better ideas for defeating terrorists. Democrats say every day that they have better ideas for defeating terrorists. Neither Republicans nor Democrats would be very good partisans if they did not believe these assertions. Are such claims out of bounds? Of course not!

America is at war. The most important issue in this campaign is how the war against Islamic extremists will be conducted. If neither side is allowed to say that its plans are better, how are we supposed to debate the issue? Let’s allow the candidates to have it out and see who really does have the best plan to protect America from the terrorist threat.

Rudy’s speech says what his plans are for the Global War on Terror.

Tell Flap what Hillary or Barack plan to do?

    Still waiting……..

    Still waiting………………….

The Democrat Presidential debate in South Carolina clarified their positions?

Yes, they agreed there is a “War on Terror.”

    Wow…….

For clarification of Rudy’s position here is Hizzoner on Sean Hannnity’s radio program yesterday:

John McCain Watch: McCain Misses Iraq War Vote

Senator John McCain misses Iraq War vote to campaign in South Carolina.

Flap guesses the Senator is too busy pressing the flesh in South Carolina to vote on the Iraq War.

Or maybe getting the YUKS as in the video above.

Or telling Representative John Murtha to “Lighten Up, “Get a Life.”

Or calling on the Attorney General to resign.

    Or joking about bombing Iran.

Flap thought Senators had an obligation and duty to vote for their constituencies in the Senate – not run for President.

    Has McCain LOST it?

Obviously, even his home state Arizona voters think so. Look at the latest polls:

    McCain Lagging in Home State

John McCain’s still in the lead in Arizona, his home state (for those just tuning into American politics), but just barely.

In the latest Arizona State University/KAET TV poll, Mr. McCain leads Rudy Giuliani by only 32%-27%. Mitt Romney comes in at 11% and Fred Thompson at 6% (a rare win for Mr. Romney in the race for third place).

This is a big change from February, when Mr. McCain almost doubled Mr. Giuliani’s support, 44%-25% (Mr. Romney was at 6%). Also, I called up the director of the poll, Bruce Merrill, and got the unpublished breakdown of how Independents are breaking — it’s not good news for Mr. McCain…

Iraq War Watch: U.S. Senate Votes to Require Iraq Troop Withdrawals

    iraqapril26aweb

U.S. soldiers take cover after shots were fired at them by unidentified gunmen during a medical relief operation near Mahmudiya, south of Baghdad, April 22, 2007.

Senate Votes to Require Iraq Withdrawals

A defiant Democratic-controlled Senate passed legislation Thursday that would require the start of troop withdrawals from Iraq by Oct. 1, propelling Congress toward a historic veto showdown with President Bush on the war.

The 51-46 vote was largely along party lines, and like House passage of the same bill a day earlier, fell far short of the two-thirds margin needed to overturn the president’s threatened veto. Nevertheless, the legislation is the first binding challenge on the war that Democrats have managed to send to Bush since they reclaimed control of both houses of Congress in January.
“The president has failed in his mission to bring peace and stability to the people of Iraq,” said Sen. Robert Byrd, D-W.V., chairman of the Appropriations Committee. He later added: “It’s time to bring our troops home from Iraq.”

The $124.2 billion bill requires troop withdrawals to begin Oct. 1, or sooner if the Iraqi government does not meet certain benchmarks. The House passed the measure Wednesday by a 218-208 vote.

Across the Potomac River at the Pentagon, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, Gen. David Petraeus, told reporters the war effort likely will “get harder before it gets easier.”

Republicans said the vote amounted to little more than political theater because the bill would be dead on arrival after reaching the White House. Bush said he will veto the bill so long as it contains a timetable on Iraq, as well as $20 billion in spending added by Democrats.

“The solution is simple: Take out the surrender date, take out the pork, and get the funds to our troops,” said Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

The U.S. Senate Roll Call vote is here.

Independent/Democrat voting against: Joe Lieberman of Connecticut

Republicans Voting for: Gordon Smith of Oregon and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska.

Not voting: Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona and South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

Political theater for political gain and to beat up on President Bush explains today’s vote. But, why take it out on the troops.

If these “SURRENDER MONKEYS” do not agree with the President’s Iraq War policy then they should have the GUTS to cut off all of the funding and bring the troops home immediately.

    But, alas, they are gutless.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Beats Hillary in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania in Latest Quinnipiac Poll

    giulianioctober4aweb

Giuliani Now Leads Clinton In All Three Swing States

Former New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani leads New York Sen. Hillary Clinton and other Democrats in the 2008 presidential race in three critical states – Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania, according to Quinnipiac University’s Swing State Poll, three simultaneous surveys of voters in states that have been pivotal in presidential elections since 1964.

The independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds:

    * Florida – Giuliani leads Clinton 49 – 41 percent, compared to 50 – 40 percent in an April 2 poll. Gore trails Giuliani 47 – 43 percent.

    * Ohio – Giuliani leads Clinton 46 – 41 percent, compared to March 22 when Clinton was up 46 – 43 percent. Gore trails Giuliani 47 – 39 percent.

    * Pennsylvania – Giuliani leads Clinton 47 – 43 percent, compared to 46 – 42 percent March 29. Gore ties Giuliani 44 – 44 percent.

    *******

So, is tonight’s Democrat Presidential debate in South Carolina missing a candidate who can beat Rudy?

    You betcha…..

Flap doesn’t think any of the Democrat candidates can beat him unless Rudy commits a MAJOR gaffe.

Al Gore – bring him in.

Now, that will be an interesting match-up: Gore v. Clinton.
