Illegal Immigration Watch: No Illegal Alien Amnesty?
Amnesty, or not? Not, says the White House, following yesterday’s agreement with a bipartisan nucleus of senators on the language for a bill rewriting immigration laws.
According to this “Fact Sheet: Border Security and Immigration Reform,†from the glass-enclosed nerve center of White House Communications: “No Amnesty For Illegal Immigrants: Illegal immigrants who come out of the shadows will be given probationary status.
So, the White House maintains this plan is NOT AMNESTY but it CLEARLY is. All of the 12 million plus illegal aliens will be allowed to stay in the United States but with certain conditions and a new visa designation: Z Visa.
Let’s take a look at the Senate bill:
The question is: Will this “comprehensive” immigration reform legislation be an improvement over the status quo?
The answer is: You bet
Is it an amnesty plan?
You bet, but so?
The Congress and President have been unable to deal with this problem for over twenty years while millions of illegal immigrants flooded into the United States from Mexico and other Central/Latin American countries. Trust me there has been an impact and this impact demands a solution NOW.
As Flap said yesterday this proposal is NOT perfect, IS AMNESTY, but is a START. If certain provisions are not working, then change them later. This bill should not be viewed as a static document.
In fact, IF this bill passes next week, the House will pass their own bill later in the summer and a conference committee will draft the final legislation. Therefore, it is most probably better to reserve final judgment until the final thousands of pages are fully vetted.
But, saying NO now means NO illegal alien reform and the status quo.
This is unacceptable.
