Giuliani Notes: Rudy, Arnold and Illegal Immigration

Mark Levin over at National Review seems to think Rudy’s relative quiescence on the now pending Senate immigration bill is a California problem for the Mayor.
I believe Rudy Giuliani has been quiet about this immigration deal because of a simple political problem: Arnold Schwarzenegger. Arnold, like the president, is prepared to embrace darn near any deal labeled “comprehensive immigration reform.” It has been reported that Arnold is leaning toward supporting Rudy. If Rudy were to harshly criticize this deal, he could lose Arnold’s support to John McCain. So, Rudy has decided to remain fairly quiet on the subject.
Possible but a doubtful analysis.
More than likely Rudy has remained quiet because he is smart enough not to react to news reports on an important policy decision. After all, the draft legislation was not made available (all 1,000 pages of it) until the weekend. Why not wait and make an informed principled position.
Now that the bill has been put off by the Senate leaders there will be ample time to debate the details and policy issues.
And look at the pissing contest between the Mittster and McCain he avoided today.Â
With regards to California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s endorsement, Flap does not believe it hinges on an issue as arcane as illegal immigration. Arnold is a pragmatist and if it benefits the Governator, he will endorse that candidate.
Self interest rather than illegal immigration will steer Arnold’s Presidential pick – if any.

Illegal Immigration Watch: Senate Postpones Immigration Bill
“It would be to the best interests of the Senate … that we not try to finish this bill this week,” said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., as the chamber began debate on the volatile issue. “I think we could, but I’m afraid the conclusion wouldn’t be anything that anyone wanted.”
The bipartisan compromise cleared its first hurdle Monday with a bipartisan Senate vote to begin debate on a separate immigration measure. Still, it faces significant obstacles as lawmakers seek dozens of modifications to its key elements.
The chances of this bill passing without substantial amendments:

Jimmy Carter Watch: Bush Administration is “The Worst in History†Part 2
Now, former President Jimmy Carter is showing remorse for calling the Bush Administration “the worst in history.”
“My remarks were maybe careless or misinterpreted but I wasn’t comparing the overall administration and certainly not talking about anyone personally,” Carter said in an interview Monday when asked to explain.
The comments “were interpreted as comparing this whole administration to all other administrations when what I was actually doing was responding to a question about foreign policy between [President Richard] Nixon and this administration, and I think that this administration’s foreign policy compared to Nixon’s was much worse. … I wasn’t comparing this administration with other administrations throughout history but just with President Nixon’s,” he told NBC’s “The Today Show.”
Carter, whose administration was plagued by sky-high inflation and a 444-day American hostage crisis in Iran, was filling in a quote Saturday in which he said, “I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history.”
Guess Jimmy still wants to be invited to events at the White House.
This peanut farmer is as big a MORON as he was when he was fighting that rabbitt when he was President.

Mitt Romney Watch: Mitt FLIPS on Illegal Immigration
Joe Arpaio, a sheriff known for rounding up immigrants in desert tents, introduced Mitt Romney on Tuesday at the Arizona Republican headquarters in Phoenix.
Just as Mitt Romney was breaking out in Iowa, another FLIP of position is promoted by the Mittster.
The contradiction can be heard here:
Does Romney EVER stick to a position?
Flap supposes NOT NOT NOT NOT.
Let’s see:
Illegal aliens mowing his lawn
Scientology book one of his favorites
Mitt is just a PANDERING………..
Maybe I should wait a of couple weeks and see if it changes. Maybe he can get out his small varmint gun and drive those Guatemalans off his yard.
Man…….
The audio of McCain letting Mittster have it is here.
Update:
Mitt pushes back:Asked to respond, Romney spokesman Kevin Madden counter-punched on the controversial topic.
“It seems that certain candidates who brokered this flawed plan are having a very difficult time grappling with or coming to terms with the political fallout that has ensued in a substantive manner,” Madden said.
Romney, Madden stated, “has been very clear that he opposes this immigration agreement.”
Update #2
Hugh Hewitt is getting into the act:
Now the key question is whether Senator McCain will stay in the party and support its nominee, a question which hasn’t been asked of him (or Tom Tancredo)and which should be, again and again until it gets a straight answer.
And Soren @ Eyeon08 blows back Hewitt.
And all of this FIGHTING BEFORE Labor Day.
Wow……

Illegal Immigration Watch: Rush to Border Judgment
When the Senate illegal immigration proposal was first announced last Thursday Flap urged a “go slow” approach to rejecting this comprehensive bill.
Flap continues to maintain that current federal immigration policy is broken and unacceptable.
But, after further review and cursory reading of the bill over the weekend, Flap has come to the conclusion that this bill requires substantial amendment before it is ready for passage. There are too many unintended consequences.
Let the Senate debate begin today. But, a final vote on Thursday will NOT be realistic.Previous:
