Isn’t it a wonder that Fred Thompson is only 9 points back of Rudy and ahead of everyone else… and he has not even formally announced his candidacy yet!!!

    Run, Fred, Run!!!

    Thompson for President in 2008!

Someone is going to have to explain to me why there are these Fred Thompson true believers, and why they think a low-energy Senator who left politics for Hollywood would make a viable candidate. A simple analysis of Thompson’s voting record and assessments by groups such as a the Club for Growth reveals that he has virtually the same patterns as John McCain, namely, as only moderate to center-right on many fiscal issues, while lacking McCain’s experience. A simple analysis of national polls see Thompson being crushed in head-to-heads against Democrats. This tired line of “Thompson isn’t even running” after newspaper article after newspaper article assures voters that Thompson continues to move towards candidacy is becoming laughable — Thompson is every bit as much in as Rudy, McCain, or Flipper, and simply wants the second quarter to pass without having to disclose how far behind he is in fundraising (i.e. will declare shortly after 6/30). An heir to Ronald Reagan because both were actors? Balderdash.

I think a conversational primary battle is very good for Hizzoner. As some elements of the Republican Party have been convinced that Rudy is “liberal,” the more they have a chance to see real examples through debates and discussions of Giuliani’s leadership, record of accomplishments and high level of competence, and commitment to security and a growth economy. As Rudy becomes the consensus candidate, I think we’re going to see real excitement for him throughout the right and the center, even those who were initially infatuated with one of the pretenders, such as Thompson. Substance will trump form.

Post #2 has nailed it. This Buckeye isn’t fooled by Thompson who wants to run an Internet campaign and doesn’t seem to want to participate in debates. Thompson was a lazy Senator who was steamrolled by John Glenn on China. He is a total lightweight compared to Sen McCain. I didn’t think that social conservatives were this easily fooled but it is sure looking like it more by the day. Democrats would crush Thompson but some people cannot seem to understand. I am just so happy that big states like CA, NY, NJ are voting near the beginning and Rudy will do great in those states. Thompson is totally scripted and probably why he doesn’t want to debate and be shown for the lighweight he really is.

Ohio Republicans want a leader not some candidate running a campaign like he is auditioning for a movie script.
