    SHIFTING POSITIONS ON ABORTION

“Mitt Romney’s biggest challenge in this election will be convincing Republicans he has principled positions on important issues, especially now that it’s known that he remained committed to pro-choice policies after his ‘epiphany’ on abortion in 2004. In stark contrast, John McCain has a consistent 24 year pro-life record.” – Matt David, Deputy Communications Director

MITT: Mitt Romney maintains that he changed his position on abortion to pro-life after a “single revelatory moment” in November 2004.

Romney Says He Converted To Pro-Life Cause In November 2004, Saying That After That Time He Was Compelled To “Stand For The Dignity Of Human Life”

Romney “Simply Changed His Mind” On Abortion One Day In November 2004. “On abortion, Romney says he simply changed his mind. He recalls that it happened in a single revelatory moment, during a Nov. 9, 2004, meeting with an embryonic-stem-cell researcher who said he didn’t believe therapeutic cloning presented a moral issue because the embryos were destroyed at 14 days. ‘It hit me very hard that we had so cheapened the value of human life in a Roe v. Wade environment that it was important to stand for the dignity of human life,’ Romney says.” (Karen Tumulty, “What Romney Believes,” Time, 5/21/07)

    · The Doctor, Harvard’s Douglas Melton, Claimed Romney “Mischaracterized My Position.” “Governor Romney has mischaracterized my position; we didn’t discuss killing or anything related to it. … I explained my work to him, told him about my deeply held respect for life, and explained that my work focuses on improving the lives of those suffering from debilitating diseases.” (Scott Helman, “Romney’s Journey To The Right,” The Boston Globe, 12/17/06)

Romney: “When I First Ran For Office … I Concluded, Wrongly, That I Would Support The Law As It Was In Place … And So I Publicly Acknowledged My Error, And Joined With You To Promote The Sanctity Of Human Life.” “As you know, when I first ran for office … I concluded, wrongly, that I would support the law as it was in place – effectively, a pro-choice position. … And I was wrong. And so I publicly acknowledged my error, and joined with you to promote the sanctity of human life. And you know that my words were matched with my actions.” (Mitt Romney, Remarks To Massachusetts Citizens For Life Mother’s Day Dinner, Agawam, MA, 5/10/07)

Six Months After His So-Called Epiphany, Romney Said He Was “Absolutely Committed” To Maintaining Pro-Choice Laws In Massachusetts

Romney In May 2005: “I am absolutely committed to my promise to maintain the status quo with regards to laws relating to abortion and choice and so far I’ve been able to successfully do that and my personal philosophical views about this issue is not something that I think would do anything other than distract from what I think is a more critical agenda …” (Mitt Romney, Remarks At Press Conference, 5/27/05)

Today, Romney Says “As Governor I Came Down On The Side Of Life”

Romney In May 2007: “You don’t have to take my word for it. You can look at what I did as a governor. And as a governor I came down on the side of life.” (Fox News’ “Hannity & Colmes,” 5/7/07)

    The Romney campaign’s response:

    Responds Romney spokesman Kevin Madden:

“Governor Romney is firmly pro-life and can rely on his record of having protected the sanctity of life when faced with those issues as governor.

Governor Romney consistently maintained, in an effort to protect the sanctity of life, that he would fight attempts to weaken the state’s existing abortion laws. Maintaining existing laws in a state like Massachusetts was an important fight in and of itself.

It’s very troubling that the McCain campaign would attack the governor’s pro-life stance by trying to alter the context of a statement made at a news conference where he also made a passionate case for his veto of stem cell legislation that showed a level of disregard for the sanctity of human life.

The McCain campaign’s motives are obviously borne of desperation. Their actions are both sad and unfortunate.”

Well, McCain is DESPERATE and Romney is a FLIPPER.

Both are out of the President 2008 race in ANY case.

If there is a race it is now between Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson.

    Mitt Romney on abortion 2002.

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Accepts Iowa GOP Debate

    giulianijune13aweb

Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani signs an autograph for Bob Steiner of Manchester, N.H. after speaking Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Old Town Hall in Bedford, N.H.

Giuliani accepts invite to Iowa debate

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has accepted an invitation to joining a presidential debate planned in Des Moines next August sponsored by ABC News, his first major commitment to the state since dropping from a straw poll planned later that month.

“As you are aware, Mayor Giuliani is committed to providing voters with as much information as possible in order for them to evaluate their next president and he strongly believes that debates are in important part of the electoral process,” said campaign manager Michael DuHaime, in a letter to George Stephanopoulos of ABC News.

The debate is planned Aug. 5 in Des Moines, and Giuliani joining the platform is likely to assure that virtually all of the other Republican contender will join in. Most national polls have shown Giuliani leading other rivals for the GOP presidential nomination, though those polls have been flux in recent weeks.

Polls have also shown Giuliani running strong in Iowa, where precinct caucuses traditionally launch the presidential nominating season. He has built less of an organizational presence than some of his GOP rivals in the state, and he rocked Republican politics last week by deciding to pull out of the Iowa straw poll.

The Republican Party of Iowa traditionally runs the straw poll in August before the caucuses in January, and those straw polls in past competitive election cycles have drawn flocks of candidates, who spend million of dollars courting Iowa activists in hopes of a strong showing.
Last week, Giuliani announced he was dropping out of the straw poll, though he insisted he would continue to compete in Iowa’s leadoff caucuses. That move sparked Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) to also pull out of the straw poll, leaving the formerly high-profile event up for grabs.

Giuliani aides said accepting the debate invitation in Iowa shows that Giuliani is serious about competing in the state. The said he released this week a high-profile list of Iowa backers and will contest the state.

Of course, Rudy will compete for votes in the January 14, 2008 Iowa caucuses. Hizzoner will never right off a chance to win an election and GOP delegates.

However, the Iowa Straw Poll is another matter. That decision for anyone who knows politics was a “NO BRAINER.”

Iraq War Watch: Iraq Surge a Failure

    ramireztoon042707web

Iraq surge a failure, top Democrats tell Bush

Top US congressional Democrats bluntly told President George W. Bush Wednesday that his Iraq troop “surge” policy was a failure.

Senate Majority leader Harry Reid and House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi challenged the president over Iraq by sending him a letter, ahead of a White House meeting later on Wednesday.

“As many had forseen, the escalation has failed to produce the intended results,” the two leaders wrote.

“The increase in US forces has had little impact in curbing the violence or fostering political reconciliation.

“It has not enhanced Americas national security. The unsettling reality is that instances of violence against Iraqis remain high and attacks on US forces have increased.

“In fact, the last two months of the war were the deadliest to date for US troops.

The letter appeared to preview a fresh showdown over Iraq between anti-war Democrats and the president, just a few weeks after Bush forced his foes to strip troop withdrawal timelines from a 100 billion dollar emergency war budget.

And the Democrat leaders can assess the Iraq War situation how?

Senate Majory Leader has already stated that the Iraq War was LOST. Yet, he and his Democrat colleagues capitulated to the President a few weeks ago and funded the “surge.”

So, is this more political posturing?

    You betcha

The Surrender Monkey Democrats had NO COJONES to defund the troops so they will snipe at the President and HOPE/ENCOURAGE his policy fails.

There is nothing like being on the same team with the Democrats. Is there?

Pelosi and Reid told Bush in the letter that they planned to send him new legislation to “limit the US mission in Iraq, begin the phased redeployment of US forces, and bring the war to a responsible end.”

On Tuesday, Reid said that Senate Democrats would attach troop withdrawal deadlines to a Defense Department Authorization bill, due to be debated within weeks.

This legislation will meet a certain veto by President Bush. So, why are Reid and Pelosi pushing for an Iraq War surrender?

Why, to score cheap political points and appease their anti-war LEFT flank.

    Disgraceful……..

Iran Watch: U.S. – NATO has Intercepted Iranian Arms Shipments to the Taliban

    ramireztoon061307cweb

U.S.: NATO has intercepted Iranian arms

NATO has intercepted Iranian weapons shipments to Afghanistan’s Taliban insurgents, providing evidence Iran is violating international law to aid a group it once considered a bitter enemy, a senior U.S. diplomat said Wednesday.

“There’s irrefutable evidence the Iranians are now doing this,” Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns said on CNN. “It’s certainly coming from the government of Iran. It’s coming from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard corps command, which is a basic unit of the Iranian government.”
Speaking separately to The Associated Press, Burns said NATO must act to stop the shipments. The Iran-Afghanistan frontier is “a very long border. But the Iranians need to know that we are there and that we’re going to oppose this.”

“It’s a very serious question,” he said, adding that Iran is in “outright violation” of
    U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The State Department later appeared to step back from Burns’ assertion the Iranian government was directly involved in the transfers but stressed Washington has proof that weapons from Iran were being sent to Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.

“We absolutely are certain that there are Iranian-origin weapons flowing into Afghanistan to the Taliban,” spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

“We do not know the extent of any Iranian government involvement at this point, but given the nature of the regime and also some of its past behaviors elsehwhere — whether in the Palestinian areas or in Iraq — it certainly raises very serious questions and we are quite concerned about it,” he said.

Tehran, which is also in a dispute with the West over its nuclear program, denies it is aiding the Taliban, calling the accusation part of a broad anti-Iranian campaign. Iran says it makes no sense that a Shiite-led government like itself would help the fundamentalist Sunni movement of the Taliban.

Burns acknowledged that it was “curious” that Iran would aid the Taliban. “It’s quite surprising,” he told CNN. “The Iranians had said that they were the mortal enemies of the Taliban in 2001 and ’02.”

And Iran is helping Iraq insurgents kill America soldiers in Iraq. The United States is now in a two front proxy war against Iran.

President Bush, when will you call Ahmadinejad and the Iranian Mullahs out? When will direct military intervention begin?

    Flap bets soon.

  • Illegal Immigration,  Michael Ramirez,  Paris Hilton

Michael Ramirez on Paris Hilton AND Illegal Immigration

    ramireztoon061207cweb

Gallegly: Where’s the Outcry Over the 21,000 Other Early Releases?

Congressman Elton Gallegly (R-CA24) on Friday said Paris Hilton’s premature release from jail is not the anomaly it is made out to be. Even if she had not been ordered back to jail, after just three days in jail Hilton actually would have served more time in Los Angeles County jail than thousands who have committed far more egregious crimes.

“Paris Hilton should serve her entire sentence, as should anyone who flouts our laws. She repeatedly violated her probation and was given a lenient 23 days after originally being sentenced to 46. If she wants to avoid jail in the future, she should grow up and become a responsible citizen – after paying her debt to society,” Gallegly said.

“But Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo is being disingenuous to complain that Sheriff Lee Baca has broken the law by releasing Hilton without bringing the matter back before a judge. Baca releases more than 21,000 people every year without serving their sentences – thousands of whom are booked and released the same day – and Delgadillo hasn’t complained about any of them. Hilton wasn’t getting preferential treatment; this is status quo in Los Angeles County, and Delgadillo knows it.”

Rather than being released for having a rash, or losing their appetite, the others are let go because of jail overcrowding. And why are the jails overcrowded? Baca appeared before the House Judiciary Committee last August, where Gallegly is a senior member, and clearly stated the problem. Forty percent of Los Angeles County inmates, Baca testified, are illegal immigrants. Take away the illegal immigrant population and overcrowding ceases to be an issue. (Emphasis Flap’s)

    Gallegly is absolutely RIGHT.

Illegal immigration is so acutely impacting Los Angeles County jails that very few convicted offenders serve even one half of their sentence. Flap cites the case of former LOST star Michelle Rodriguez who served less than five hours in a Los Angeles County jail for a DUI probation violation last year.

And what about LAPD’s special order 40? And Los Angeles being a “sanctuary city?” Of course, this is BULL.
Paris Hilton should serve her time but then again so should the other LA County convicted offenders.

The illegal aliens should be DEPORTED and the border secured so they cannot return to the United States.
