0 Illegal Immigration Watch: Mexican Senate Sides With Elvira Arellano

Elvira Arellano speaks to the Mexican Congress, August 22, 2007

President Bush, Build the Damn Wall.

A Mexican Senate committee passed a measure Wednesday urging President Felipe Calderon to send a diplomatic note to the United States protesting the deportation of an illegal migrant who took refuge in a Chicago church for a year.

The committee also approved a scholarship to help her 8-year-old U.S.-born son, Saul, who is an American citizen and stayed in the United States.

Secure the border and enforce the immigration laws.

2944c23brown3embeddedprrx8 Jerry Brown Watch: Governor Moonbeams Return in 2010

California Attorney General Jerry Brown: ON RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR “The thought has certainly crossed my mind, but I haven’t really come to any conclusion….I’ve decided I’m not going to think about it in any serious way certainly for the next year.”

He is RUNNING!

And then for President.

Veteran GOP strategist Ken Khachigian, who said he has studied Brown “like Patton studied Rommel,” predicted that another Brown governorship would mean one thing — another Brown run for president.

“If he ran for governor in 2010 and won, he’d start running for president in 2011,” said Khachigian, who managed the losing campaign of Brown’s opponent, former Republican state Sen. Chuck Poochigian, in last November’s attorney general’s race. “With the governorship, he’s been there and done that. The governorship would be too small for him.”

Providing Jerry’s health and vigor hold up (Brown is 69) you can bet the ranch he is running and may very well be the next California Governor.

Hell, the Eagles are coming out with a new album (their first since 1979) why not another Brown Administration?

Will Gray Davis come back as Chief of Staff to Governor MOONBEAM?

By the way, here are the other probable candidates in case Jerry decides NOT to run:

  • Steve Westly – former California Controller who lost to Phil Angelides last year in the Democrat primary for Governor.
  • Phil Angelides – former California Treasuerer and Democrat Party Chairman who lost to Arnold Schwarzengger last year in the general election.
  • Gavin Newsom – current Mayor of San Francisco who admits to sleeping with his campaign manager’s wife and carrying on a sordid affair.
  • Antonio Villaraigosa – current Mayor of Los Angeles who admits to an affair with Mirthala Salinas, a Telemundo political reporter and who is in the middle of a divorce.
  • John Garramendi – current Lt. Governor of California who many Democrat activists describe as yesterday’s news.
  • Jack O’Connell – current California Superintendent of Public Instruction who has limited statewide name recognition.
  • Bill Lockyer – current California Treasurer and former California Attorney General who flirted with the race against the Governator last year but was scared out by Angelides and Westly or was it Arnold’s poll numbers?.

Stay tuned…..

Elvira Arellano speaks to the Mexican Congress, August 22, 2007

News Item: In Southern California, five immigrants have taken refuge inside churches to avoid being separated from their American-born children.

After all, according to Elvira Arellano, it is America’s fault for allowing illegal aliens to cross the border and pay taxes.

OH PLEASE.

Mr. President, secure the southern border with Mexico and enforce the law.

0 Mitt Romney Watch: Mitt FLIPS on Abortion AGAIN Part Two

Nevada political columnist Jon Ralston with Mitt Romney in a televised interview, August 22, 2007

Yesterday evening Flap posted this piece about the OBVIOUS flip by Mitt Romney on abortion. Now others have picked up on the dolphin-like inconsistencies.

The Washington Post headlines: Romney Struggles to Define Abortion Stance

Jon Ralston, the Las Vegas Sun columnist who interviewed Romney on KLAS television, said he was surprised by the governor’s answer.

“I thought that was a perfect example of Mitt Romney trying to thread a needle that’s very difficult to thread,” Ralston said in an interview yesterday. “I don’t see how you can be antiabortion, be in favor of a constitutional amendment and be in favor of states’ rights. . . . I don’t see how you do it.”

Top Romney advisers insisted yesterday that their candidate’s statements on abortion this month were consistent with each other. They said Romney supports a two-step process in which states get authority over abortion after Roe v. Wade is overturned, followed eventually by a constitutional amendment that bans most abortions.

First Read calls the Romney campaign PUSH-BACK the TWO-STEP.

Blogs For Brownback asks: Is Mitt Romney Human? And conclude he is a DOLPHIN.

Here are Mitt’s positions on abortion AGAIN:

  • 1994: Mitt Romney was pro-choice:“I believe that abortion should be safe and legal in this country. I have since the time that my mom took that position when she ran in 1970 as a US Senate candidate. I believe that since Roe v. Wade has been the law for 20 years we should sustain and support it.” (Joan Vennochi, “Romney’s Revolving World,” The Boston Globe, 3/2/06)
  • 2001: Mitt Romney was not pro-choice:“I do not wish to be labeled pro-choice.” (Mitt Romney, Letter to the Editor, The Salt Lake Tribune, 7/12/01)
  • 2002: Mitt Romney was again pro-choice:“I respect and will protect a woman’s right to choose. This choice is a deeply personal one … Women should be free to choose based on their own beliefs, not mine and not the government’s.” (Stephanie Ebbert, “Clarity Sought On Romney’s Abortion Stance,” The Boston Globe, 7/3/05)
  • November 2004: Mitt Romney said he converted to the pro-life position.Romney said he changed his views after meeting with Harvard scientists on stem-cell research: ‘It hit me very hard that we had so cheapened the value of human life in a Roe v. Wade environment that it was important to stand for the dignity of human life.’ (Karen Tumulty, “What Romney Believes,” Time, 5/21/07)
  • May 2005: Mitt Romney reaffirmed that he was “absolutely committed” to support the pro-choice position.Six months after he claimed to have converted to the pro-life position, Romney stated: “I am absolutely committed to my promise to maintain the status quo with regards to laws relating to abortion and choice and so far I’ve been able to successfully do that and my personal philosophical views about this issue is not something that I think would do anything other than distract from what I think is a more critical agenda …” (Mitt Romney, Remarks At Press Conference, 5/27/05)
  • January 2007: Mitt Romney acknowledged he was “effectively pro-choice.”On January 29, 2007 during a visit to South Carolina, Romney stated: “Over the last multiple years, as you know, I have been effectively pro-choice.” (Bruce Smith, “Romney Campaigns in SC with Sen. DeMint,” The Associated Press, 1/29/07)
  • February 2007: Mitt Romney stated that he “was always for life.”On another campaign stop in South Carolina, Romney stated: “I am firmly pro-life… I was always for life.” (Jim Davenport, “Romney Affirms Opposition to Abortion,” The Associated Press, 2/9/2007)
  • August 6 2007: Mitt Romney stated that “I do support the Republican platform, and I do support that being part of the Republican platform, and I’m pro-life,” Romney said in the ABC interview, broadcast days before his victory among conservative Iowa voters in the Ames straw poll.
  • August 22 2007: Mitt Romney stated in an interview with a Nevada television station , Romney said Roe. v. Wade should be abolished and vowed to “let states make their own decision in this regard.”

So, does Romney want to BAN abortions nationwide or NOT?

There is a CONFLICT between his MORAL positions and his states rights positions.

Governor, you cannot have it both ways.

Update:

Marc Abinder says it is NO Flip Flop  (Mitt is struggling) but then goes on to explain why it might be interpreted as such and may be dangerous to Romney’s campaign.

Flap can see the televison commercials flying – especially from McCain and Thompson in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

And the Democrats will have a field day with Romney as the GOP nominee.

By the way, Ambinder is WRONG.
