0 The Giuliani Approach to Cleaning Up Iraq

From MSNBC this afternoon:

JIM MIKLASZEWSKI: Military officials will tell you, you know, it’s almost like the Rudy Giuliani approach to cleaning up New York. to clean up Iraq, you have to start at the bottom. and we’re seeing now that in Anbar province from the bottom up. and so, you start at the bottom with the police forces. if you don’t have a viable, reliable police force in place in iraq, there can be no fix to the security problems there.

And the Mayor has the track record and expereince to put accountability programs into place.

Quote of the Day from Jim Mills, former Thompson campaign spokesman:

“About the only people who haven’t worked in the Thompson press shop this summer are Larry Craig and that woman astronaut who wore those diapers cross country.”

OUCH!

Thompson communications adviser Mark Corallo has also left the campaign.

1337082583 be3699bd4a o Michael Ramirez on Congressional Overspending

A twisted tale of congressional earmarking

A twisted tale of congressional earmarking has taken another turn.

The U.S. Navy wants a business owned by the family of Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski to hand over a piece of high-tech equipment bought with some of the $9.25 million in taxpayer funds Kanjorski steered to the company.

Except no one seems to know where to find the equipment — a high-pressure pump.
The mystery of the missing pump, combined with newly unearthed evidence that federal investigators probed Kanjorski’s connections to the company, Cornerstone Technologies, has given new life to a story that seems unlikely to go away.

In a parody of the Larry Craig scandal, Michael Ramirez highlights the REAL crime Congress is committing.

070828sencraighmed12pstrt0 Senator Larry Craig Watch: Craig LIKELY to Leave

Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport Police arrest-booking photo of Sen. Lary Craig, R-Idaho

After a brief flirtation with reconsidering his September 30 resignation from the United States Senate, Senator Larry Craig is now LIKELY to go.

Sen. Larry Craig has all but dropped any notion of trying to complete his term, and is focused on helping Idaho send a new senator to Washington within a few weeks, his top spokesman said Thursday.

“The most likely scenario, by far, is that by October there will be a new senator from Idaho,” Craig spokesman Dan Whiting told the Associated Press.

The only circumstances in which Craig might try to complete his term, Whiting said, would require the overturning by Sept. 30 of his conviction for disorderly conduct in a men’s room at the Minneapolis airport, as well as Senate GOP leaders’ agreement to restore Craig’s committee leaderships posts taken away this week.

Those scenarios are unlikely, Whiting said.

Damn.

Is this Larry Craig FIASCO finally over?

Others say Craig should lawyer up and fight?

NO WAY……Good Riddance……..

californiareforminitiatgl5 Presidential Electors Initiative Watch: Initiative in Circulation for June 2008

Graphic Courtesy of California Majority Report

Another California initiative – “The Presidential Electors Initiative” changing the distribution of Presidential electoral College votes (winner take all to by Congressional district) was approved for circulation yesterday. Previously the Electoral Reform California Initiative qualified and is currently circulating for signatures.

The initiative is here and the complete text is here.

Two competing GOP sponsored initiatives with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger apparently opposed with lukewarm initial poll support and massive Democrat Party opposition yields this scenario:

1. Funds are raised from Presidential candidates and GOP donors to qualify the initiative(s) for the June 2008 California ballot.

2. Since support is so-so from the California GOP and voters, supporters will FEIGN a campaign forcing Democrats to spend campaign resources to “MAKE SURE” the initiative(s) do not pass.

Flap thinks both initiatives have merit and with a low turn-out election in June you never know.

But, Flap DOES know that the Democrats will spend mega-dollars on their media campaign and cause them grief and election angst.

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean accused Republicans of trying to “rig” the 2008 presidential contest and vowed Wednesday to do “whatever it takes within legal boundaries” to stop a California ballot measure that would change how the state casts its 55 Electoral College votes.

Dean, who called the initiative a “Tom Delay/Karl Rove-type maneuver…”

Stay tuned…….

captf7f1b75a559e42f7b23vd0 Arnold Schwarzenegger Vs. Barbara Boxer in 2010?

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, right, speaks as former California governors, Pete Wilson, left, and Gray Davis look on during a news conference Thursday Aug. 23, 2007 in Los Angeles. The three along with members of the Voices of Reform Coalition including Common Cause and League of Women Voters met to discuss ways promote a fundamental change in the way political boundaries are drawn to insure fairness and transparency in elections.

Garry South, a veteran political consultant who handled Gray Davis’gubernatorial campaigns, and who last year headed Steve Westly’s campaign for governor makes the case.

The Governator will paint the radically LEFT Boxer as a post-partisan obstruction to national consensus and will win going away – after a costly and dirty media campaign.
