Mitt Romney Lead in New Hampshire Collapses

Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney appears at a fund raising event Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, in Salt Lake City. ‘Holy cow,’ Romney told the volunteers in a 10-minute speech during the six-hour fundraising effort. ‘We’re making a lot of money.’

The NewsMax/Zogby Poll:

A new NewsMax/Zogby survey shows the Mitt Romney lead in New Hampshire being cast aside, turning the stateâ€™s Republican nomination race into a cliffhanger featuring a clash of styles and substance.

The GOP NUTS:

In the Zogby poll Romney has lost 11 points since May. In the recent ARG poll Mitt has lost 3 points and McCain surged. The CNN poll shows only a 1 point Romney lead (within the margin of error).

New Hampshire is a horse race.

Just a few weeks ago the Romney folks were bragging that Romney was going to ride the momentum from wins in Iowa and New Hampshire to South Carolina and Florida.

Well, Mitt’s poll lead has collapsed in New Hampshire. So, back to the drawing board.

But, why has Romney collapsed and what portends for the future?

But it is possible that something more fundamental is at play here. New Hampshire is the state of â€œlive free or die,â€ where religious conservatives do not dominate the G.O.P. electorate and libertarianism has a long tradition. So while Mr. Romney was affecting his socially conservative, anti-gay-marriage rebirth with an eye toward Iowa, Republicans in New Hampshire have watched approvingly as Mr. Giuliani (and John McCain, for that matter) pounded the lectern about taxes and security.

Whatâ€™s more, New Hampshire is a state heavily influenced by the Massachusetts media market, and which is overrun by transplants from Massachusetts. While Iowa has only ever known the religious conservative Mitt Romney, the residents of New Hampshire will be keenly aware of the stark changes Mr. Romney has undergone in order to accommodate his new political goals.

A dilemma for Governor Romney, wouldn’t you say?

Play the moderate to win New Hampshire or lose your NEW “BRAND” as a social conservative and lose South Carolina, Florida and other southern states.

Can’t have it both ways.

Dan Walters makes the most recent case although Flap mentioned it before.

The answer is YES. The Governator WILL challenge Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer.

Arnold does NOT have the patience to wait for Senator Dianne Feinstein to retire in 2012.

The Governator will paint the radically LEFT Boxer as a post-partisan obstruction to national consensus and will win going away – after a costly and dirty media campaign.

Count on it……..

Telemundo Channel 52 Poitical Reporter Mirthala Salinas announces “on air” her boyfriend, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s separation from his wife.

Salinas Will Not Return To Telemundo-KVEA 52

Newscaster Mirthala Salinas and Spanish-language network Telemundo have “mutually agreed to end” her employment with KVEA, according to a statement from the station.

KVEA management said in a statement: “Telemundo-KVEA 52 and Mirthala Salinas have mutually agreed to end our employment relationship effective October 1, 2007. We are not in a position to make any further comment on our discussions with Ms. Salinas surrounding her departure.”

As Flap predicted earlier, Mirthala whose contract expired in three months would NOT be back.

And why should she? Did she not receive a settlement from her employers?

Now, the question is: how much of a settlement did she receive from NBC-Telemundo?

Or is Mirthala content with playing house with the divorcing Mayor Villaraigosa? The Los Angeles Times reports that the Mayor and Salinas are continuing to see each other.

Stay tuned as this story now turns to Mayor Villaraigosa’s financial relationship with Salinas and Los Angeles City lobbyists.

And what about those documents and e-mails from the Mayor that KNBC demanded back in July?
