Michael Ramirez on Chris Matthews and the GOP Debate

First, Some Questions For Matthews

For unknown reasons, Republican candidates have agreed to a second debate moderated by a hard-core Democrat who thinks President Bush is a criminal. This time it is they who should really play hardball.

The GOP Presidential candidates should have demanded that Chris Matthews be replaced as a moderator for this debate. After all, the Democrats boycotted the Nevada debate sponsored by Fox News.

Flap wonders if any of the candidates will have the COJONES to confront Matthews on his recent statements about President Bush and Vice President Cheney?

If they cannot stand up to NUTTER Matthews how can we expect them to stand up to Putin and Ahmadinejad?

Chris Matthews voted for George W. Bush in 2000.

When is the last time you voted for a Democrat for president?

He seems more bipartisan then almost any other talking head.

  • Flap

    Non-partisan?

    I think NOT

    From Wikipedia:

Matthews has worked for four Democratic politicians. He was a presidential speechwriter for four years during the Carter administration. He served as a top aide to long-time Speaker of the House of Representatives Tip O’Neill for six years. He worked in the U.S. Senate for five years on the staffs of Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie before himself campaigning for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and losing his party’s nomination to Pennsylvania Congressman Joshua Eilberg in the Democratic primary in 1974.

Matthews was raised in a conservative Irish Catholic household. As a young man he supported Barry Goldwater, but was inspired to become a Democrat by Eugene McCarthy’s pro-civil rights and anti-Vietnam war platforms. Despite having worked for Democrats, Matthews has said, “I’m more conservative than people think I am. … I voted for George W. Bush in 2000.” Media Matters for America, a liberal media watchdog group, named Matthews “Misinformer of the Year” in 2005.

To recap, he is bipartisan as he has supported Goldwater and Bush in the past. He has been attacked by liberal groups and conservative groups. That is usually a good sign.

But you didn’t answer. Have you ever supported a Democrat for president? Who?

Is Chris Matthews more bipartisan then you?

  • Flap

    Yes

Humbert Humphrey in 1968 but I was only 17 and could not vote.

But, Brian, I admit I am a partisan.

Chris Matthews is a partisan and pretends that he is not.
