News Item: Paul raises more than $3.5M in one day
Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, aided by an extraordinary outpouring of Internet support Monday, hauled in more than $3.5 million in 20 hours.
Paul’s total deposed Mitt Romney as the single-day fundraising record holder in the Republican presidential field. When it comes to sums amassed in one day, Paul now ranks only behind Democrats Hillary Rodham Clinton, who raised nearly $6.2 million on June 30, and Barack Obama.
But, money doesn’t buy you LOVE or an election – ask Barack Obama.
Why the outpouring of support for Paul?
- A protest vote?
- Frustration and/or opposition to the Iraq War?
- A Vendetta Against the MAN?
- Return to the Gold Standard?
- Hatred of the Federal Reserve and the United Nations?
Whatever it is, the Ronulans got off their keyboards and opened their wallets/debit-credit cards.
Well done and Presidential fundraising may NEVER be the same.

Calif. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger gestures during a talk to the Silicon Valley Leadership Group in San Jose, Calif., Friday, Nov. 2, 2007.
California Legislative Democrats have offered California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger a deal over a reform health care proposal.
Democratic leaders on Monday agreed to key elements of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s health care reform plan, including mandatory insurance, according to a spokesman for Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez.
Dan Weintraub at the Sacramento Bee’s Capital Alert has some of the details here.
The Democrats will unveil their plan officially tomorrow morning.
The Governor and Democrat dominated Legislature have only a few weeks to craft a compromise proposal to go before voters in November 2008. GOP members of the California Legislature have already rebuffed the Governor and will not support any tax increases to fund the Governor’s reform plan.
Even if Arnold and the Democrats agree to a plan, it will be an uphill battle for voter approval next year.
Stay tuned……

The Ron Paul campaign started the day around $2.77 million and looks like they will raise greater than $3 million FOR THE DAY. This is no small chunk of campaign change.
Flap wonders if ANY of the GOP frontrunners will try to emulate this success?
You have to give the Romulans credit here. They have a motivated base who open up their wallets.

GOP front-runner Rudy Giuliani has new roots in New Hampshire, literally. As you can see, he and his wife, Judith, water the sapling given to them by backers Joseph and Augusta Petrone. They’re longtime Bushies who live on a prominent Dublin, N.H., property where former President Taft and Mark Twain planted trees. The couple say they won a promise from Rudy and Judith: to return and plant it if he wins the GOP nomination or presidency.
Thanks to US News for the catch.
