Mitt Romney Slip Sliding Away to Mike Huckabee in Iowa
Arkansas Governor and 2008 Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee speaks at the Washington Briefing/Values Voter Summit, an evangelical Christian conference, in October, in Washington, DC. Partly by exploiting discontent among Christian conservatives with the Republican field, Huckabee has powered into second place in polls in Iowa, 65 days before the state’s crucial caucuses.
Is Mike Huckabee a “PLAYER” in the Iowa Presidential Causcus race? Two polls released the last few days say YES.
First is today’s ARG Poll:
Iowa | |
Likely Republican Caucus Goers | Nov 10-14 |
Giuliani | 11% |
Huckabee | 24% |
Hunter | 1% |
Keyes | – |
McCain | 10% |
Paul | 3% |
Romney | 26% |
Tancredo | 1% |
Thompson | 11% |
Undecided | 13% |
In the ARG poll Huckabee is clearly within striking distance of Romney. Remember that Mitt has been “on air” in Iowa for months. Huckabee’s strength is clearly grassroots and a low budget affair.
Yesterday’s CBS News/New York Times Poll demonstrates the same positive poll movement for Huckabee:
- Romney 27%
- Huckabee 21
- Giuliani 15
- Thompson 9
- Paul 4
- McCain 4
- Tancredo 3
- Hunter 2
- Undecided 14
Mike Huckabee is making a “RUN” at Mitt Romney in Iowa.
Soren Dayton asks the question: Could Huckabee win Iowa?
A question is starting to emerge: Could Mike Huckabee win Iowa? I am going to answer yes. This is not yet a prediction, but it could be.
First, why it could happen. He is clearly rising in the polls into a clear second. And success begets success. And it seems clear that outside groups like NRLC will whack at Mitt Romney to drop his numbers. Lastly, everyone, other than Romney, wins by a Huckabee victory. I expect a bunch of autodials and people at the polls urging Giuliani and McCain supporters to go with Huckabee.
Mitt Romny’s campaign strategy is to win Iowa and New Hampshire, then use the MOMENTUM and BUZZ generated to help him in later state primaries where he is not currently polling as well as Giuliani. A Huckabee win in Iowa or a close second is a DAGGER in the heart of Romney’s campaign.
Watch Thompson, Giuliani and McCain help TWIST that knife.
Is this why Hugh Hewitt, a Romney hagiographer pundit is so upset?
Stay tuned…….

Mitt Romney has been, so to speak, tested and refined, and I’m not talking about his overall competence through his business, political and Olympics experiences, I’m talking about being the frontrunner in the early states. He has been there for several months, and has been able to withstand and deflect all the attacks a typical frontrunner gets. Now, Huckabee is the new kid on the block, and part of being that kid is the ability to ward off the darts. This is going to be the prediction about Huck – In the next few weeks, after the voters have found out about his immigration stances favoring giving tuition breaks to illegals, and tax positions and history, especially those YouTube videos of being a tax-monger, he will slip, slide, and tumble. Romney has weathered the storms while Huck is just now starting to get them, and based on what we’ve seen of him and his positions, even his religious/evangelical connections won’t save him. That’s one of the big differences between Romney and Huckabee. Huck won’t be able to pass the test!

With the help of the other campaigns, it looks like Mitt Romney will fade.
Romney has been “on air” for months and now he leads by only 2 points, if that.
Iowa will be close.

Well remember few weeks ago in NH, when Giuliani was virtually tied with Romney? Romney may fade temporarily and then comes back strong; he’s a staple! Check in the next 2-3 weeks and you’ll find that Romney will increase his lead over Huckabee. You’ve heard it first here!
