Mitt Romney Watch: Trouble in River City

Republican presidential hopeful, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney speaks during a meeting with local residents and students, Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

“Trouble, oh we got trouble, Right here in River City! With a capital “T”……….

Dick Morris has the RIGHT analysis:

This is not a good time to be Mitt Romney. After almost a year of having the Iowa and New Hampshire airwaves to himself, he is now facing a challenge on the right from Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson and on the left from Rudy Giuliani.

Mitt Romney has spent over $7 million to win Iowa. Now, he is in a virtual tie with Mike Huckabee who has spent around $400 THOUSAND.

And, the latest Fox News New Hampshire poll has Mitt ahead of Rudy by ten points and McCain by 8. Giuliani has recently gone “on air” with television ads and is within striking distance, particularly if Romney loses Iowa to Mike Huckabee. McCain has been rising and could “surprise” Mitt. Rasmussen has Huckabee rising in New Hampshire.

This just off the Drudge wire: The influential New Hampshire Manchester Union Leader is posed to endorse John McCain tomorrow.

Romney expected early substantial wins in Iowa and New Hampshire to provide him the knock out blow and become the alternative to national poll leader Rudy Giuliani. As the “anyone but Rudy” candidate he would generate financial support and SoCon voters to compete with Giuliani in the larger February 5th Super Duper Tuesday states. Early momentum was Romney’s strategy.

So, goes a “FAILED” strategy.

And, blaming the press won’t help him much either. Neither will these desperate pieces by Romney hagiographers.

Or having Evangelical surrogates personally attacking candidates and thus violating the GOP’s 11 Commandment.

Stay tuned…….
