• Mitt Romney,  President 2008

The Boston Phoenix – Mitt Romney is a LIAR

The Boston Phoenix calls Mitt Romney a Liar and say GOP voters deserve better.

This is the THIRD New Hampshire area newspaper with a negative endorsement. The Concord Monitor did so previously along with the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Key graphs:

• They must reject the shameless, dishonorable, dishonest former governor of Massachusetts, Willard Mitt Romney.
• There is nothing new here. It is Romney’s character through-and-through — he is a slick salesman who will say anything, regardless of the truth or the consequences, in his vain quest for self-promotion.
• Romney has bet his campaign on a belief that he can hoodwink Republican voters in Iowa and New Hampshire into believing his latest set of self-promotional pablum. We urge those voters to strongly reject his sales pitch, and restore some small amount of dignity to the Grand Old Party.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: The 9/11 Generation

Republican presidential hopeful, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, campaigns at the Wright Museum in Wolfeboro, N.H., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008.

Rudy Giuliani called for a new war on terror strategy, including a SURGE of troops in Afghanistan today at the Word War II themed Wright Museum in New Hampshire.

The transcript of this major policy speech is here.

Highlights:

• So I think it wouldn’t be unfair to describe us as the 9/11 Generation, because how we handle this is going to say something about us in history.
• We’re in the middle of a struggle that puts freedom versus fundamentalism, hope versus fear, democracy versus conflict. We didn’t seek this conflict, we didn’t start this conflict but we must finish it and we will win it. I guarantee you that we will win it.
• “Osama bin Laden must be caught and brought to justice. Al-Qaeda, Hezbollah, and Hamas have to feel increased pressure on every level. We have to make certain that we complete the job with al-Qaeda and with the Taliban.
• “So, keeping America safe must be the first priority of the next American president.

Specific policies to win the War on Terror Against US:

• Expand America’s military – increase it by at least 10 new combat-ready brigades for the Army. And that should be done now. And then more increases are necessary, we should do the additional increases. The Air Force next generation bombers, fighters, and refueling tankers. The Marines have to be at least 200,000 and our Navy has to be at 300 ships or more.
• Double the number of our troops who are American led combat troops in Afghanistan. We need to bring a surge to Afghanistan and make it effective right now.
• Modernize and transform our military – a new hybrid military and civilian corps to help rebuild areas after the battles.
• Improve our intelligence capability and rebuild our human intelligence capability.
• Improve homeland security – proposed a TerrorStat program – to make sure that local and state authorities across the country are able to get the information that they need about suspicious incidents, about precursor crimes.
• Establish an international assembly for freedom from terrorism.
• Win the war of ideas – tie our foreign aid, where we can and where it should be tied, to countries helping us in the Terrorists’ War Against Us
• More aggressive about ending illegal terrorist propaganda and we have to go after the money.
• Increase trade and cultural exchanges with countries in these areas of the world.

An effectively delivered and specific policy speech. But, was anyone listening?

Were voters more focused on the sandbox attacks of Romney vs Huckabee in Iowa than policy? And, on Chuck Norris?

You bet.

This is the easy and casual media driven approach to choosing a President but the Mayor has laid the groundwork for the rest of his policy-based campaign: Tested Ready Now.

CNN reports that Mayor Rudy Giuliani is committed to doubling the number of troops in Afghanistan and beefing up America’s intelligence capability to keep us on offense in the Terrorists’ War on Us.

Rudy Giuliani releases a television ad today for airing nationally on Fox News and New Hampshire tomorrow emphasizing the Mayor’s theme of “Tested Read Now.”

The Script:

VOICEOVER: “An enemy without borders. Hate without boundaries. A people perverted. A religion betrayed. A nuclear power in chaos. Madmen bent on creating it. Leaders assassinated. Democracy attacked. And Osama bin Laden still making threats. In a world where the next crisis is a moment away… America needs a leader who’s ready.”

MAYOR GIULIANI: “I’m Rudy Giuliani and I approved this message.”

More on the Mayor’s policy speech today in New Hampshire about redoubling America’s effort in Afghanistan later in the day.

Mitt Romney Rips Huckabee and McCain for Iowa Absences

Republican presidential hopeful, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, speaks to media at a at Bettendorf Middle School in Bettendforf, Iowa, Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, the last day of campaigning before the Iowa caucus.

Mitt Romney in classic combative style derided Mike Huckabee’s leave of Iowa to Los Angeles (actually Burbank, California)for this afternoon’s taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Romney also attacked John McCain who just returned to Iowa today after campaigning in New Hamsphire for the past week.

“Welcome to Iowa, senator,” Romney said, before repeating his recent criticism of McCain’s past opposition to President Bush’s tax cuts and support for last summer’s controversial immigration reform bill.

• Mike Huckabee,  President 2008

Rush Limbaugh – Huckabee NOT a Conservative

huckabeejanuary2bweb

No surprise here:

“Ladies and gentlemen, Gov. Huckabee, mighty fine man and is a great Christian, is not a conservative, he’s just not,” Limbaugh said. “If you look at his record as governor, he’s got some conservative tendencies on things but he’s certainly not the most conservative of the candidates running on the Republican side.”

And, El Rusbo also went after McCain, and Rudy.

So, who does that leave to pass the EIB litmus test?

Thompson and Romney

Please……..

Rush, you still on those pain pills?

McCain Hits Romney Again on Foreign Policy Gaffe

John McCain in the continuing tit for tat web and television media war hits Romney again on foreign policy/terror.

Since McCain does not have the campaign resources to continue this war beyond New Hampshire (as of yet) he is looking for a win in New Hampshire and then hitting up the donors to run these web only ads in Michigan and South Carolina.

Romney will undoubtedly respond.

Rush Limbaugh – MSM Plot to Nominate Huckabee

huckabeejanuary2bweb

El Rushbo speculates on a MSM plot to nominate Mike Huckabee to “destroy the Christian Right once and for all.”

Then, Rush goes on to bag against John McCain:

Rush hit McCain, saying “Would you think a conservative would support amnesty? Would you think a conservative would agree with the ACLU on interrogation techniques used on terrorists? Would you think a conservative would vote against the Bush tax cuts? I’ve just described the positions of John McCain.”

So, is Rush endorsing whoever is left?
