John McCain,  President 2008,  Rudy Giuliani

A September BROKERED GOP Convention?

John McCain and Rudolph Giuliani before the Republican debate on Tuesday, May 15, 2007.

Flap’s acquaintance former California State Senator John Lewis makes the case (via Hugh Hewitt) for a “BROKERED” GOP Convention this Fall in Minnesota.

Flap mentioned the possibilty when the Huckaboom first started and with John McCain’s surge it is more than just possible.

Will Rudy and McCain cut a deal with each other?

Rudy Giuliani as President and John McCain as Vice President or vice versa? Rudy’s strategy is consistent.

And, what about Huckabee? Will Huck be left out?

Super Duper Tuesday will give us the answer. MAYBE……

Is a DEAL Possible?

You bet.

The GOP will need a united ticket to beat the Clinton Cabal in November.

I think a deal worked out between McCain and Rudy is more likely than a brokered convention. McCain and Rudy like each other; Rudy saying earlier that had he not decided to run he would have endorsed McCain. One thing to look at for an indication if there is cooperation between the campaigns is where each focuses in the upcoming primary states.

Last year, McCain and Rudy both decided to forego the August Iowa strawpoll. Hmmm…This certainly smacked of coordination between the campaigns. McCain ran well in NH, of course, and Rudy, after an initial effort there, backed off. Did he do so to give McCain less competition? McCain should do well in Michigan, and has a shot at South Carolina; Rudy seems to have lowered his profile in both states. Rudy’s best shot is Florida. Is McCain working the state? And where is McCain on the major Feb. 5th states? Are they avoid direct competition with one another?

I’m not saying McCain and Rudy are colluding, but the scenario that they could pool their resources at some point before the convention is a possibility, theoretically speaking.

Good observations. I don’t believe McCain has much going on in Forida.

Romney did but has pulled them out.

The schedule is very compressed and Florida along with California have already started early and absentee voting.

It would not be easy if McCain wins in Michigan and South Carolina to heavily compete in Super Tuesday.

The delegates are apportioned not winner take all and this is where organization and money pays off.

A deal, probably. Both are team players.

Agree with Greg A that McCain is angling for Secretary of Defense which would suit me just fine and Rudy will go with a younger person for Vice President.
