Rudy Giuliani Florida Events January 12 – 14, 2008
Republican presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani explains his one page tax return proposal during a town meeting at a charter school in Coral Springs, Florida January 11, 2008.
A Flapsblog reader the other day in a comment asked about where Rudy would be traveling in Florida so that Florida voters could meet the man.
The event list is here at the joinrudy2008.com web site under Florida.
But, here it is anyway:
In the meantime, we all read today about the Giuliani campaign cash situation. Let’s help Rudy out and make sure he gets his message out there.
I mean, damn, if Ron Paul can raise $20 million in the last quarter why can’t we raise a few more million to saturate Florida with ads and have a proper television campaign in California.
Go here and give a few bucks.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Florida We Are “All In “
Republican presidential candidate and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) reaches out as he speaks with Lauren McGowan, 19, during a town meeting at a charter school in Coral Springs, Florida, January 11, 2008. McGowan, who is in a wheel chair, asked a question about stem cell research.
Facing campaign finance concerns with some staff members volunteering to forego pay checks, Rudy Giuliani confirmed this afternoon from Florida that he is “ALL IN” in Florida.
“We have some,†he said when asked if there would be money for Feb. 5 states. “But, frankly, Florida is real important to us, so we’re gonna put if not everything into Florida, almost everything.â€
Florida as Flap has written over the past few months will be make or break for the Giuliani campaign.
The truth is: If Rudy cannot win in Florida he cannot win anywhere.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: John McCain Gets Bump Out of New Hampshire in Florida
Republican presidential hopeful former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani gestures in front of a large tax form he is proposing as he speaks at the Coral Springs Charter School Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in Coral Springs, Fla.
John McCain has received a bump up in support after winning the New Hampshire primary this past Tuesday. In the latest Survey USA poll he leads the field in a state where just a few weeks ago he trailed Rudy Giuliani by almost 20 points.
- John McCain 27% (10%)
- Rudy Giuliani 19% (29%)
- Mitt Romney 17% (20%)
- Mike Huckabee 17% (24%)
- Fred Thompson 8% (8%)
- Ron Paul 5% (-)
Poll conducted from 1/9-1/10. There were 502 likely Republican voters surveyed, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5%. H/T Race42008
This bump may be the “stake in the heart” for the Giuliani campaign. But, remember the race may be closer, polls wrong (this poll could be an outlier) and Floridians will ultimately decide the race anyway – that is why we have elections.
Giuliani has said Florida is his “firewall” and has gone “all in” there. The campaign will keep plugging along to win this race.

Giuliani Campaign Facing Budget Crunch?
Supporters of Republican presidential hopeful and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani march into the Myrtle Beach Convention Center prior to a Republican presidential debate in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008.
Fox News reported about an hour ago (and now just again) that the Giuliani campaign was asking staffers to work for free.
Immediately Flap’s Bull Shit meter went into gear.
And, Flap screams BS.
Here is the statement from the campaign:
“Several members of our staff wanted to work without pay — including the campaign manager — as a way to contribute more to our efforts because they feel so strongly about Rudy’s run. Some other members of our senior staff were asked on a voluntary basis to forgo their paycheck for the month so all of our resources could be targeted toward Florida… That said, our campaign is not — and has never been – living hand to mouth…â€
The Florida primary election is in 18 days and Super Duper Tuesday is February 5 – not very far off. If the Giuliani campaign was having cash flow problems then they would miss what one payroll, February 1 – in any case? Or, maybe, two if you figure January 15?
This story is a plant and it is disingenuous of Fox News to deliberately report something that is false.Update:
Ok, the story has been picked up by the AP and the other cable channels. Is this an indication that the Giuliani Campaign is having money problems?
“We have enough money, but we could always use more money,” contended Mike DuHaime, Giuliani’s campaign manager and one of those who now is working for free. “We want to make sure we have enough to win.”
At the end of December, he said the campaign had $11.5 million cash on hand, $7 million of which can be used for the primary. He disputed the notion of a cash-strapped campaign, and said Giuliani continues to bring in cash; several fundraisers are scheduled this week in Florida.
DuHaime and other aides stressed that relinquishing pay was voluntary and was limited to senior staffers.
“I want to do everything I can to make sure Rudy’s president, and I speak for a lot of the campaign when I say that,” DuHaime said. “None of us joined this campaign for money.”
All of the GOP campaigns, except for Ron Paul (recently), have lagged behind the Democrats this year and have struggled financially.
On the GOP side, McCain is broke and floated a $3 million loan to keep his campaign going. Romney has contributed over $17 million (not counting the last quarter 2007) in his own wealth to fund the campaign and has gone dark (pulled campaign ads) every where except Michigan. Thompson is broke. Huckabee has never been prolific in his fundraising.
Good news is not on the horizon for any of the GOP candidates regarding campaign coffers.
But, what does this mean for the Giuliani campaign?
Probably not much since Florida and Super Tuesday are bunched so close together in the campaign calendar. If Rudy wins, he is flush with new cash. If he loses, then he is out and it doesn’t matter.

Will Arnold Schwarzenegger Endorse John McCain?
Senator John McCain with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in October 2005 supporting Arnold’s reform initiatives which later failed at a November 2005 special election.
With John McCain’s resurgence in the polls, there are rumors that the Governator will endorse John McCain for President.
With the massive California budget problem and Arnold’s recent dust-up with the California GOP, post-partisanship et. al. Flap doesn’t know if it will help McCain that much.
But, Arnold is popular for now and there is that global warming thing…….

Ron Paul discusses his non-support of 9/11 Truthers
In the South Carolina gabfest
debatelast night, Ron Paul said he did not believe the 9/11 Truth conspiracy.Yet, no one asked Paul about the newsletters for which later in the video clip, he seemingly accepted responsibility: “The only thing I have control over is what I believe and what I say.â€
Why didn’t Carl Cameron follow up with a direct question on whether Paul wrote or edited ANY of the newsletters that bore his name?Fox News gives Ron Paul a pass.

Day By Day by Chris Muir January 11, 2008
When Hillary and Obama talk about “CHANGE” they are talking about electing them to tax and spend – no “small change.”
Rudy Giuliani is correct when he says that if they are elected President then Americans will have “small change” left in their pockets after all of the tax increases.

Giuliani did better than the last two debates; he was more involved; but it is interesting to watch the candidates and moderators ignore Rudy, to a point.
