Alaska GOP Governor Sarah Palin Says Yes to National Office – VP?

Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post – The Fix interviews Governor Palin

Sarah Palin, the Republican Governor of Alaska says she IS interested in national office. Palin is refreshingly honest and definitely a rising star in the GOP.

She discounts the possibility that John McCain would pick her for Vice President this year but should Hillary Clinton make a comeback and win the Democrat nomination, Governor Palin would be on everyone’s short list.

A new generation of Republican pols will lead the party and Governor Palin is one such leader.

  • Palin for VP!

The blog over at The Weekly Standard actually makes the point that Palin might be better against Obama than Calinton. I personally think they are right. For one, Palin produceed a local phenomenon similar to the Obama campaign when she ran for Governor, which is how she steamrolled a siting governor (Frank Murkowski), a wealthy businessman (John Binkley) , and a popular fromer Governor (Tony Knowles) in the 2006 election.

So, there is a chance that “The Palin Effect” could be used to blunt “Obamamania”. Plus, the point could be made that GOP rising stars have more substance than Dem rising stars, as Palin has compiled quite a record during her time as Governor while Obama has done very litte in the Senate. Plus, if Obama puts and experienced old hand in the VP slot, the McCain-Palin campaign could vwery easily make the case that the Dems would have their ticket upside-down (experience on the bottom, newness on top).

Plus, while I hate identity politics, the Machiavellian in me notes that a female Veep nominee would not be as effective against a female Presidential candidate in drawing women’s votes. However, running a female VP candidate against Obama does present the opportunity to pick up a lot of votes from women. Because, while Obama is a “history-making candidate” he draws his identity votes from a differnet demographic.

No, no, no. Palin is not a conservative. At least not a fiscal conservative.

Don’t believe me? Research the recent huge tax increase she pushed for on the oil industry (ACES – Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share), which funds roughly 90% of our state’s budget. Alaska now taxes to a surplus!

She also signed the second largest capital budget in state history.

Then there’s the mess she named “AGIA” (Alaska Gasline Inducement Act) which has basically derailed the gasline process.

    She’s a disaster.

Things you should know about Sarah Palin:

Sarah Palin, aka Sarah Chavez, proposed and pushed through the largest raise in taxes in Alaska’s history. She supports the idea that the State can seize the property of oil producers in Alaska if they don’t do what she wants. She has attacked almost the entire Republican majority in the house and senate. She stood by and giggled when a radio shock jock called the Republican President of the Senate a “bitch” and “a cancer”. She threatened to support Democrats running against Republicans if they did not support her tax and spend policies.

She would be a disaster as VP.

  • Draft Haley Barbour

Governor Haley Barbour has real experience both in and out of Washington. His vision and his ability to lead have taken Mississippi to new heights–with better jobs and higher income. His legacy of leadership and ability to unite to get things done is what conservatives need and want in Washington. It is the type of leadership that will mobilize and unite the Republican Party, and ensure true conservative values in this election.

Results are the metric by which we measure Governor Barbour. With the current rhetoric of change and the demand for new leadership, we sometimes forget that results matter more than anything else. Under his leadership, Governor Barbour has demonstrated results that matter, no matter the political landscape.

She’d be fantastic! Sure she raised taxes they needed it. The OIL COMPANIES have been abusing Alaska or a long time. Good on her. She’s also tough on the good ol’ boys in the GOP…so somebody call the waaaahmbulance!

If they don’t get serious about the people’s business-which SHE is about (see her 90% + popularity polls) and if they aren’t SQUEAKY clean ethilcally

then she guts them like the rotten old fish they’ve become

    GO SARAH GO

Ahhh, North Slope Borough School District Superintendent Trent Blankenship… interesting comment.

Are you politicking for more money???

We both know the poll numbers are thanks to one Mr. Frank Murkowski; the least popular governor of all time.

The oil companies have been “abusing Alaska”??? Oh please! It’s obvious you didn’t live in Alaska before the oil industry got here.

Go back to Wyoming! And take Sarah Chavez who signed the largest tax increase on industry in the entire United States with you!
