Ron Paul’s Message to Supporters — March 6, 2008

Winning re-nomination to a safe Texas GOP Congressional District is sufficient for Ron Paul – at least for now. Was it a Quixotic run for the Presidency?

Yep, but he involved many in the political process and demonstrated the power of the internet in campaign fundraising at the grass roots level.

Long term effects on the GOP = negligible.

Will the GOP give Ron Paul a speech at the GOP Convention?

Flap says probably.

Samantha Power, Pulitzer Prize Winning Author and senior advisor to US Democratic Party presidential candidate Barack Obama

The gloves are definitley off between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Hillary Clinton has been branded a “monster” by one of Barack Obama’s top advisers, as the gloves come off in the race to win the Democrat nomination.

Key graphs:

  • “She is a monster, too – that is off the record – she is stooping to anything,” Ms Power said, hastily trying to withdraw her remark.
  • “Interestingly, the people in her innermost circle seem to not mind her; I think they really love her.”
  • But she added: “There is this middle circle – they are really on the warpath. But the truth is she has proved herself really willing to stoop.”
  • “You just look at her and think: ergh. But if you are poor and she is telling you some story about how Obama is going to take your job away, maybe it will be more effective. The amount of deceit she has put forward is really unattractive.”

The Democrat race for the Presidency will be nasty and dirty. The race very much reminds Flap of the 1968 race where Hubert Humphrey played the Hillary role and Eugene McCarthy was the staunch anti-war candidate (Robert Kennedy was assassinated after the California primary election in June of that year). HHH won as riots engulfed the Chicago Democrat convention. Richard Nixon won the Presidency.

A “BROKERED” Democrat convention is likely because neither candidate will be able to win the nomination on pledged delegates won in either elections or caucuses. Super delegates will be used to break the deadlock.

Advantage goes to Hillary and the GOP.

From the Hillary Clinton campaign: On March 4th, your vote will decide who will be in the White House to pick up the phone when it rings at 3 AM

Obama foreign policy adviser Susan Rice:

“They’re both not ready to have that 3 a.m. phone call.”

As Flap said previously this 3 AM Hillary Clinton television ad channels John McCain.

From the McCain campaign today, McCain spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker:

“We agree wholeheartedly that neither Sen. Clinton nor Sen. Obama have the experience or judgment necessary to lead the United States in the struggle against violent Islamic extremists who seek our destruction, or to address the complex global environment that our next president will face. Only Sen. McCain is ready to serve as commander in chief from day one.”

A day after the idea of Do-Over Democrat primary elections in Michigan and Florida was floated, there is increasing pressure by politicians of both states to hold the election – and by June.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean urged Florida and Michigan party officials to come up with plans to repeat their presidential nominating contests so that their delegates can be counted.

“All they have to do is come before us with rules that fit into what they agreed to a year and a half ago, and then they’ll be seated,” Dean said during a round of interviews Thursday on network and cable TV news programs.

The two state parties will have to find the funds to pay for new contests without help from the national party, Dean said.

“We can’t afford to do that. That’s not our problem. We need our money to win the presidential race,” he said.

But, who will pay for the elections?

The Governor of Florida, Charlie Crist says the Democrat Party will pay. Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democrat National Committee says they will not pay because they do not have the money. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida sent a letter to DNC Chairman Howard Dean Thursday asking the committee to either accept the Jan. 29 results of the primary election or pay for a redo of the elections, which could cost in the range of $20 million.

And, who benefits?

Hillary Clinton marginally – according to new pledged delegate numbers. She will benefit more if the results of the previous elections are upheld and there is NO revote.

Who REALLY benefits?

The GOP and John McCain because both Hillary’s and Obama’s campaigns would have to spend megabucks in these two states on paid media and the negative ads would damage both candidates.

Senator Nelson is correct. This is a train wreck – but may be Hillary’s ONLY chance to beat Obama.

Does the Democrat Party have ANY choice not to have a do-over election?

titlejs1 Home Schooling Threatened in California; Update: Did L.A. Times Misinterpret the Ruling?

A California appeals court (via MM) has held that parents who lack teaching credentials cannot educate their children at home.

Advocates for the families vowed to appeal the decision to the state Supreme Court. Enforcement until then appears unlikely, but if the ruling stands, home-schooling supporters say California will have the most regressive law in the nation.

“This decision is a direct hit against every home schooler in California,” said Brad Dacus, president of the Pacific Justice Institute, which represents the Sunland Christian School, which specializes in religious home schooling. “If the state Supreme Court does not reverse this . . . there will be nothing to prevent home-school witch hunts from being implemented in every corner of the state of California.”

The ruling is here.

Key graph:

  • “Parents do not have a constitutional right to home school their children,” wrote Justice H. Walter Croskey in a Feb. 28 opinion signed by the two other members of the district court. “Parents who fail to [comply with school enrollment laws] may be subject to a criminal complaint against them, found guilty of an infraction, and subject to imposition of fines or an order to complete a parent education and counseling program.”

So, if you home school your child a California parent can be subject to a CRIMINAL complaint.

This absurd ruling WILL be appealed to the California Supreme Court.

In the meantime, will the left-wing Democrat controlled California legislature pass legislation clarifying this issue, like thirty other states?

NO WAY – why aggravate the public school monopoly behemoth and teacher’s unions that feed their campaigns? Keep the kids and parents captive.

Update:

Ace says not so fast with saying homeschooling is imperiled.

Read it all.

The left is much like the radical Islamists who wish to stifle the publication of the Mohammed Cartoons – only the politically correct speech is allowed.

From Dune:

  • Paul Atreides: He who can destroy a thing, controls a thing.

Yet:

  • Baron Harkonnen: He who controls the Spice (internet) (speech), controls the universe!

A case in point was Pakistan’s ability to shut down YouTube because the government objected to content.

Speech and the internet must be free and accessible to all.
