Harold Ickes, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s liaison to superdelegates, convened a conference call with between 35 and 40 members of Congress loyal to the New York senator this afternoon, a gathering designed to take their temperature on her future in the presidential contest.
The tenor of the call, according to a source familiar with it, was largely supportive of the New York senator. “New Yorkers don’t like a quitter,” Rep. Charlie Rangel (N.Y.) said. Rep. Marion Berry (Ark.) added that the Arkansas delegation was behind Clinton for as long as she wanted to stay in the race.
Ickes, who championed Clinton’s cause over the weekend at the Rules and Bylaws Committee, insisted that the New York senator had not given any serious thought to leaving the race and would not do so until after the primaries tomorrow in Montana and South Dakota.
But, the pressure is mounting. But, a very large detail is up in the air – Hillary’s campaign debts.
Negotiations are understood to be taking place between the Obama and Clinton campaigns about the Illinois senator helping to repay some of the massive debt incurred by his rival. One of Hillary Clinton’s donors said that the former First Lady’s campaign was as much as $40 million in the red.
In a conference call with major donors this afternoon, contributors were told by Harold Ickes, a senior Clinton adviser, that she was unlikely to pull out of the race until the issue of her massive debts was resolved. The New York senator has lent her own campaign at least $11.5 million.
One source close to a major donor said: “It’s not about the vice-presidency or any other position she might get. It’s about the money – in particular the Clinton family money.†The Obama campaign might have to reach deeply into its well-stocked coffers in order to secure the full support of Mrs Clinton and her husband Bill in the November general election.
The heat has been turned up on the Clintons and Bill especially knows it is time to go – especially if the campaign debts and proper respects are paid. Their campaign donors are poised to switch over to Obama and when suitable details are consummated it will be leaked to Drudge.
NYT TUESDAY: ‘Clinton would likely withdraw from the race later in the week, after Obama’s victory appeared clear’…
Flap wrote earlier today that it was nearing the end of the road for Hillary Clinton’s campaign for President.
Looks like Hillary will throw in the towel after the votes are counted tomorrow.
Has she been able to weasel her way onto the ticket? Flap says doubtful but her campaign debts will be paid and she will be given a speech at the convention.
The stars are lining up for her withdrawal tomorrow night. Bill Clinton gave his nostalgic farewell earlier today.
Bill Clinton acknowledged Monday that today may be his last campaigning for his wife.
“I want to say also, that this may be the last day I’m ever involved in a campaign of this kind,” the former president said at a town hall at the Milbank Visitor Center.
“I thought I was out of politics, ’til Hillary decided to run,” he said. “But it has been, one of the greatest honors of my life to go around and campaign for her for president. “

Although Hillary’s aides say that tomorrow night’s post primary party and speech which will be in New York is not an occasion where Hillary plans to drop out of the race, the evidence is otherwise.
Campaign staffers have been told to either attend tomorrow night’s speech in New York or go home after tomorrow’s primary election and await further instruction.
The New York speech is her ONLY event planned for tomorrow.
Staff has been told to gather up outstanding expense receipts by the end of the week in a sign that the campaign wants to get its financial affairs in order.
Hillary Clinton’s “Fact Hub,” which purportedly to correct the record whenever the media or Sen. Barack Obama made assertions the Clinton campaign found wanting. No one has posted anything on Fact Hub since May 22.
There was a meeting of uncommitted Senators today: “A lot of us just feel that the sooner this is sort of put to bed, the sooner we have a nominee, the better off everyone’s going to be,” said Sen. Tom Harkin of Iowa, one of the participants.
A plan B disrespecting Hillary Clinton has been planned by party leaders: Officials said that if Obama failed to gain 2,118 delegates by Tuesday night, one possibility under discussion was for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin, who is head of the Democratic Governors’ Association, to issue a statement on Wednesday urging superdelegates — members of Congress and other party leaders — to state their preferences as soon as possible.
Obama claims he is close to winning the nomination: Obama stopped short of a flat prediction that he would be able to claim victory Tuesday night when the delegates were allocated after the day’s primaries. But he said, “It is my sense that between Tuesday and Wednesday we have a good chance of getting that number of delegates” needed for victory.

An updated post is here on the End of the Road for Hillary Clinton
The last Hillary Clinton 2008 campaign ad? “Tuesday it’s up to you. You can join over 17 million people who have voted for a leader who can fix the economy.”
Hillary Rodham Clinton will give her post-primary speech in New York Tuesday night, a rare departure from the campaign trail.
Staffers who have worked for her on he ground in Puerto Rico, South Dakota and Montana have been invited to attend the event or go home for further instructions, campaign aides said. The New York senator had no other events Tuesday. She planned to address AIPAC Wednesday in Washington.
But she is under increasing pressure to cede the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama after the final primaries. There was a sense of denouement in the campaign. She planned to rally with husband and former President Clinton and their daughter Chelsea in South Dakota Monday night—a reunion usually reserved for election nights.

Has she been able to weasel her way onto the ticket? Flap says doubtful but her campaign debts will be paid and she will be given a speech at the convention.
After a five week vacation, Hillary will be up and running for President again while undermining Obama.
Dental Economics magazine is trying something novel and innovative – a dental trade show on the internet.
And, why not?
It is a pain in the ass for the active practicing dentist to run out to a dental society or other dental organization sponsored trade show in a distant locale to attempt to look at a product with a horde of other folks crowding around. Besides the exact product that you may be researching may not be there or the booth/exhibit space so crowded you cannot see it demonstrated.
Then, there is the competing dental continuing education that NEVER allows enough time to get down to the exhibit floor.
Flap knows of the dental manufacturers and sales representative concern about the costs of these shows. It is a legitimate concern and pushes up the costs of dental care unnecessarily.
A virtual trade show is a step in the right direction.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks during a press conference in Tehran. Ahmadinejad predicted that Muslims would uproot “satanic powers” and repeated his controversial belief that Israel will soon disappear.
Said while the uranium enrichment centrifuges spin at Natanz:
“I must announce that the Zionist regime (Israel), with a 60-year record of genocide, plunder, invasion and betrayal is about to die and will soon be erased from the geographical scene,” he said.
“Today, the time for the fall of the satanic power of the United States has come and the countdown to the annihilation of the emperor of power and wealth has started.”
How many statements does Ahmadinejad have to make about Israel’s annihilation before the world community understands the intent of Iran’s nuclear program?
In a sermon given at Obama’s FORMER church, Pfleger describes how racist America is today and how natural this is, right after checking his notes
In the infamous “last straw for Obama” sermon a week ago Sunday at Trinity United, Father Michael Pfleger rants about a racist America.
“Racism is still America’s greatest addiction,” Pfleger says. “I also believe that America is the greatest sin against God.”
There seems to be a mixed reaction to that from the pews. But Pfleger explains:
“If the greatest command is to love, than the sin against love must be the greatest sin against God who IS love and who calls us to love one another. So that this greatest sin against God, racism, it’s as natural as the air we breath.”
And, what EXACTLY is the relationship which spans decades between Barack Obama and Father Pfleger?
In September, the Obama campaign brought Pfleger to Iowa to host one of several interfaith forums for the campaign. Pfleger has given money to Obama’s campaigns and Obama as a state legislator directed at least $225,000 towards social programs at St. Sabina’s, according to the Chicago Tribune. Pfleger appears to have been scrubbed from the Obama campaign’s page that features the testimony of faith leaders, but you can see the cached version HERE.
The swift boating of Barack Obama will be alternated between Father Pfleger and Pastor Jeremiah Wright. These rants will NOT play well with white working class voters in the Midwest where the Presidential race will be either won or lost.
