Tony Strickland Watch: California State Senate Campaign Surpasses $1 Million In Fundraising

California Primary election June 3 2008 - Gallegly party 027

Representative Elton Gallegly, R- Simi Valley, former California Assemblyman Tony Strickland and GOP nominee for California State Senate and Tony’s wife, Audra Strickland, California Assemblywoman, June 3, 2008.

    From the press release:

The Strickland for Senate Campaign kicked off its general election push with final primary returns showing an advantage of thousands of votes over their democratic opponent and also announcing it has surpassed the $1 million fundraising goal it had set out to reach by the June 3rd primary election. The exact dollar amount raised and collected was $1,010,616. The campaign had expected to reach or exceed the fundraising benchmark and today’s announcement, combined with primary election numbers, confirms the early success of a growing volunteer and fundraising effort.

“I am extremely humbled and thankful for the votes and efforts of my supporters in this campaign.” Strickland said, “I am ready to build on the broad support we’ve witnessed and I am encouraged by all who have given to our cause. I am confident in my team and this campaign will continue to work hard and carry our positive momentum through November.”

The Strickland for Senate Campaign attributes their early success to an increasing and dynamic volunteer effort that spans the entire District. A successful GOTV effort and months of weekly precinct walks paid dividends and the volunteer list grows daily.

The Tony Strickland Campaign will be hosting a fundriaser in Westlake Village, June 17th, featuring former Massachusett’s Governor and GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

It looks like this race which may very well determine the partisan 2/3’s balance of the California State Senate will be an expensive one.

    Elton Gallegly Watch: Marta Who?

    Martawho

Marta Jorgensen of Solvang, California who had withdrawn from her withdrawal in the Democrat primary race for California’s 24th Congressional District won the right to face off against 22 year incumbent Congressman Elton Gallegy last night.

Marta Jorgensen, reached by phone Tuesday evening and informed of the early returns, was incredulous. “You’re kidding! That’s a pretty amazing thing.”

For three weeks during the campaign, Jorgensen had suspended campaigning and announced she was supporting Jill Martinez, a developer of affordable housing and the Democratic nominee from two years ago.

But, saying she thought Martinez and Oak Park insurance agent Mary Pallant were not paying enough attention to Santa Barbara County voters, Jorgensen jumped back in.

“I was certain I had shot myself in the foot on that,” she said. “I thought maybe I’d get 8 or 10 percent.”

With 83 percent of the returns counted, Jorgensen was leading, with 47 percent of the vote, over Martinez, with 32 percent, and Pallant, with 21 percent.

The winner will face incumbent Rep. Elton Gallegly, who easily prevailed in the Republican primary over Westlake Village attorney Michael Tenenbaum. Gallegly led, 77 percent to 23 percent.

So, why did this unknown, underfunded and almost random person win the Democrat nomination. I mean are the Democrats that stupid and uninformed?

Timm Herdt at the VC Star says it was the ballot designations:

    • Marta Jorgensen – Educator
    • Jill Martizez – Businesswoman/Housing Developer (Martinez ran as a minister two years ago)
    • Mary Pallant – Insurance Agent

Some discussion over at Calitics, a Left-wing NUTROOTS site supports this thesis:

Nevertheless, let this be a lesson for many Democrats currently considering elected office: among the many other considerations in an election season, don’t overlook the power of a progressive-sounding ballot designation that shies away from anything having to do with business, housing development, insurance or the like. Democrats are fed up with anything related to Republican-sounding industries and are looking for a change–even if they do sometimes look for it in the most shallow ways.

And that, it must be admitted, is actually a good thing.

Thus, the Democrats are fickle and shallow?

Flap says RIGHT. After all, Marta Jorgensen just a few weeks ago begged off campaigning down south in Simi Valley because she could not afford the gas to get there.

By the way, Elton Gallegly now competing for his 12th term in Congress at the last reporting period boasted over $900,000 in his campaign coffers.

Marta Jorgensen in November will be another failed Democrat challenger to Congressman Elton Gallegly.

Rate the California 24th Congressional District as SAFE GOP.

    Hillary Clinton Watch: Dropping Out?

    Hillary Clinton

Democratic presidential candidate Senator Hillary Clinton waves to the crowd at her South Dakota and Montana presidential primary election night rally in New York, June 3, 2008.

Another drop out story for Hillary Clinton.

Sen. Hillary Clinton will hold an event with supporters by Friday, likely ending her historic bid for the White House and ceding the Democratic nomination to Barack Obama, ABC News has learned.

MSNBC is reporting that the New York Times has that Hillary Clinton is suspending her campaign on Friday and will endorse Barack Obama.

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is moving to suspend her campaign and endorse Senator Barack Obama on Friday after Democratic members of Congress urged her Wednesday to leave the race and allow the party to coalesce around Mr. Obama, according to a senior adviser to Mrs. Clinton.

Mrs. Clinton is likely to make the announcement in New York City, an aide said, though no final venue has been chosen.

Are they close to a DEAL on campaign debts?

Flap doubts that it is ANY conceivable pressure like Charles Rangel today.

    Well, we shall see……..

Representative Elton Gallegly won his race for the GOP nomination in CA-24 yesterday defeating challenger attorney Michael Tenenbaum by a 77% to 23% margin – a whopping 54 points. This was a wipeout against Tenenbaum who had also run two years previous.

Congratulations to Flap’s California State Senator Tom McClintock in his election victory last night in the California Primary Election. Tom who was raised in Thousand Oaks and served many years as its representiative in the California Assembly and Senate ran and WON for the GOP nomination for a Northern California open Congressional seat (CA-4).

Tom McClintock, emerging victorious Tuesday from a bruising Republican primary, will face Democrat Charlie Brown in a November match-up to replace retiring Rep. John Doolittle in Congress.

With all precincts reporting, McClintock held a decisive lead over former Sacramento-area Rep. Doug Ose, 54 percent to 39 percent.

“It looks like we’re headed toward a monumental victory,” McClintock, a state senator representing a district 400 miles away, told cheering supporters in Placer County.

Flap remembers fondly the early years of the McClintock political career and walking precincts with Tom in Camarillo as he ran in his first contested GOP primary election for the California Assembly in 1982. Tom won the primary and went on to be the then youngest elected member of the California Legislature.

In 1983 (after having been sworn into office) Tom gave a tour of the California State Capitol during the California Republican Party organizational meeting which Flap and family attended. Here are the photos and note Flap’s long and brown colored hair:

Tom McClintock and Greg Cole 1

Flap knows Tom will continue to be a strong conservative voice for California voters.

And, one thing is for sure: McClintock will be a “PAIN IN THE ASS” for Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

McClintock runs against the Democrat nominee, Charlie Brown in the November general election. He will be heavily favored in this very GOP gerrymandered Congressional District.

Hillary Clinton Watch: What Does Hillary Want?

    Hillary Clinton at AIPAC

Democratic presidential hopeful, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y.., gestures while addressing the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) Policy Conference 2008, Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at the Washington Convention Center in Washington.

After the last Democrat primary results were counted and Barack Obama seemingly won the majority of delegates to win the Democrat Party nomination for President, Hillary Clinton did not concede the race.

With Senator Barack Obama crossing the threshold of delegates he needed to claim the Democratic presidential nomination on Tuesday evening, party leaders began to move on Wednesday to bring their lengthy primary battle to a close and unite the party, even as questions swirled about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s next move.

Mrs. Clinton’s speech to supporters in New York City that was more defiant than conciliatory. She paid tribute to Mr. Obama, but she did not leave the race. She again presented her case that she was the stronger candidate and argued that she had garnered the most votes, a debatable contention that is disputed by the Obama campaign.

“I want the nearly 18 million Americans who voted for me to be respected,” Mrs. Clinton told supporters. But she paid homage to Mr. Obama’s accomplishments, saying, “It has been an honor to contest the primaries with him, just as it is an honor to call him my friend.”

    So, what does Hillary want?

Before answering the question let’s look first at former Senator and Presidential candidate Gary Hart’s advice to Hillary.

In fact, Mr. Hart believes that Mrs. Clinton could, if she wanted to, bring her candidacy to the August convention in Denver without threatening party unity.

“If [she and Obama] have a discussion—or even if their top people have a discussion—and her attitude is ‘I am not going to pursue more delegates but I intend to let my supporters put my name in nomination at the convention and I simply want you to know that,’ and then she suspends both in-front-of-the-scenes and behind-the-scenes campaigning, that’s not a real threat to him.”

This advice will be UNACCEPTABLE to Democrat Party officials and elected Pols.

    Why?

They don’t trust Hillary to NOT pursue additional Superdelegates and to attempt to “steal” the nomination from Obama. Hillary at the very least will quietly attempt to undermine Obama as she did yesterday with her “open to the Vice President” comment.

    So, what does Hillary want?

Flap maintains it is all about money. If Obama and his donors refund the tens of $millions she and Bill personally loaned her campaign then there is a start to her withdrawal from the race. No money, then she goes to Denver like Gary Hart has suggested.

Others on the right say either Vice President or a Supreme Court seat. Flap disagrees. Hillary wants to be President in 2012 and will work to further this goal. Money comes first and then the disruption of the Obama campaign.

Today it is a 50-50 proposition that Hillary withdraws anytime soon. Gary Hart’s advice may ring true.

As the Iraq War is won and Al Qaeda routed the MSM is less interested in reporting America’s success.

    Why?

The MSM media opposed the Iraq War and the United States cannot possibly be succeeding.

How will the war play in the general election race? If there is MORE success on the ground in Iraq, Barack Obama may not EVEN have to travel to Iraq again.
