Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (L) stands while Carly Fiorina, former chairman and chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard, speaks during a campaign event in Warren, Michigan,January 12, 2008

The latest Mason-Dixon poll from the Las Vegas Review Journal has:

  • John McCain – 44%

  • Barack Obama – 42%

  • Undecided – 14%

The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points.

Key graphs:

  • In another crucial demographic, Obama, 46, prevails among Hispanic voters, with 53 percent, but nearly one-fifth are undecided and McCain still draws 28 percent.

Hispanics are likely to be targeted by both campaigns as a perceived swing vote group, Duffy said. McCain already has aired ads on Spanish-language radio in Nevada.

  • Both candidates have staked their campaigns on their appeal to voters who aren’t registered with a political party. In that group, McCain polled markedly better than Obama, 43 percent to 32 percent.

A larger proportion of independents, 25 percent, were undecided than any other demographic group in the poll.

Pollster Coker said that with Democrats ahead in voter registration in Nevada and the national mood hostile to Republicans, McCain will have to hold on to his lead among independents in order to have a chance in the state.

“This race is going to be a battle for independents, and right now, in the battle for independents, McCain is ahead,” he said.

Nevada like in 2000 and 2008 will be a major battleground state with five electoral votes up for grabs.

Should Barack Obama NOT chose Bill Richardson, the Hispanic Governor of New Mexico or Hillary Clinton as his Vice President, Flap predicts the Nevada Hispanic vote will flip over to McCain.

Alos, with the major foreclosure crisis in Clark County, independent voters will be less supportive of Democrat and Obama’s plan to raise taxes.

Advantage McCain…..

Clinton supporter Harriet Christian angry after Rules & Bylaws committee meeting on Florida and Michigan.

It was a matter of time that McCain would move LEFT, PANDER and attempt to recruit the disgruntled Clintonistas.

Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina stayed to mingle with the crowd, whose members also included Clinton backer Harriet Christian, made momentarily famous on YouTube for getting ejected from the Rules & Bylaws press area.

Bower said he’d liked McCain’s answer on judges, in which he “pointed out that he supported Bill Clinton with both Ginsberg and Breyer.”

Another person who was present, but asked not to be named to avoid conflict with fellow Democrats, said he’d pressed a McCain staffer on McCain’s position on same-sex marriage.

The staffer “said it was the same as [John] Kerry’s position,” he said.

John McCain does NOT need conservatives, now does he?

Color Flap disappointed.

Flap figures that MCCain is afraid of what the new polls show.

But, I told you so……

US President George W. Bush holds talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at No. 10 Downing Street. Brown announced new troops for Afghanistan and tougher sanctions on Iran, delighting Bush

After talking with President Bush, U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown has agreed to tighter sanctions against Iran.

“Our message today to the Iranian people is that you do not have to pursue the path of confrontation,” he said during a press conference with Mr. Bush.

“Today, Britain will urge Europe and — Europe will agree — to take further sanctions against Iran,” Mr. Brown said.

Specifically, he said, the sanctions would be designed to freeze the assets of Iran’s biggest bank, Bank Melli.

“We will take action today that will freeze the overseas assets of the biggest bank in Iran, the Melli bank, and secondly, action will start today for a new phase of sanctions on oil and gas,” he said, without elaborating.

For his part, President Bush refused to rule out any action in Iran, saying “all options” were on the table — a formula he has used that has been interpreted as not precluding military strikes.

Mr. Brown said that Britain would “do everything possible to maintain the dialogue” with Iran over its nuclear program. “But we are also clear that if Iran continues to ignore United Nations resolutions and continues to ignore our offers of partnership, we have no choice but to intensify sanctions.”

YAWN. Another sign that Britain and the United States are “PUNTING” this issue to the next President.

And, in a shocker:

A Q Khan may have sold small bomb design

The West has been weak to crack down on nuclear proliferation and what a surprise that Iran may have received advanced uranium enrichment technology and blueprints for an advanced nuclear weapon from the A Q Khan network.

“These would have been ideal for two of Khan’s other major customers, Iran and North Korea,” wrote Albright, now president of the Washington-based Institute for Science and International Security. “They both faced struggles in building a nuclear warhead small enough to fit atop their ballistic missiles, and these designs were for a warhead that would fit.”

Remember when President Bill Clinton sent the Feds to “rescue” Elian Gonzales and return him to Cuba?

Now, comes this news story that Elian is joining Cuba’s Communist Youth League.

Eight years after a headline making international custody fight which ended with his return to his father in Cuba, Elian Gonzalez has joined Cuba’s Young Communist Union.

In an article in Cuba’s communist youth newspaper, Juventud Rebelde, the 14-year old Gonzalez said he would never let ex-President Fidel Castro and his brother Raul Castro down. He joined more than 18-thousand others who joined the group on Saturday.

In 2000, Gonzalez’ mother was killed when a boat carrying them to the U.S. capsized in the Florida Straits. Elian, who was 6 years old at the time, and two other refugees were found clinging to an inner tube for survival. After his rescue the boy stayed with relatives in South Florida until a long tug of war over custody end with armed federal agents seizing him from his great uncle’s Miami home. Elian then returned to Cuba with his father.

The REDS should be SO proud.
