Reports of strong support within John McCain's presidential campaign for Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman as the Republican candidate for vice president are not a fairy tale. Influential McCain backers, plus McCain himself, would pick the pro-choice liberal from Connecticut if they thought they could get away with it.

Democrat Barack Obama’s selection of Joe Biden as a running mate is complicating Republican John McCain’s analysis of his prospective vice presidential contenders.
Biden will make his formal debut Wednesday with a primetime address. McCain is expected to announce his pick after Obama accepts his nomination here on Thursday.

Politico is reporting that it was Karl Rove that called Lieberman and asked him to tell McCain not to select him. Article is surprisingly negative about a Romney choice. I thought Politico was supposed to be covering Romney’s back?

About an hour ago, Karl Rove was on Fox News and disavowed making any call.
I still think it will be Tim Pawlenty but a woman choice would be a shocker and might just what McCain needs to woo disaffected Hillary voters.
