    From the Republican National Committee:

Excerpts: Remarks by Alaska Governor Sarah Palin

Vice Presidential Nominee to Address the 2008 Republican National Convention

This evening Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the Republican Party’s vice presidential nominee, will address the 2008 Republican National Convention. Excerpts from the governor’s remarks, as prepared for delivery, are below.

On her experience as a public servant:

“I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids’ public education better. When I ran for city council, I didn’t need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too. Before I became governor of the great state of Alaska, I was mayor of my hometown. And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a ‘community organizer,’ except that you have actual responsibilities.”

On why she is going to Washington, D.C.:

“I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment. And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone. But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion – I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country.”

On energy policies that the McCain-Palin administration will implement:

“Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America’s energy problems – as if we all didn’t know that already. But the fact that drilling won’t solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we’re going to lay more pipelines…build more nuclear plants…create jobs with clean coal…and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers.”

    On John McCain:

“Here’s how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change.”

Stay tuned for Sarah Palin’s speech coming up later tonight….

Sarah Palin Watch: Teen Prego Crisis To End Vice President Bid?

    nationalenquirersarahpalin

The National Enquirer has more on the discord over Sarah Palin’s pregnant and unmarried seventeen year old daughter.

Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin attempted to quietly have her daughter Bristol get married before news of her pregnancy leaked out, the NATIONAL ENQUIRER is reporting exclusively in its new issue.

Palin planned for the wedding to take place right after the Republican National Convention and then she was going to announce the pregnancy.

But Bristol, 17, refused to go along with the plan and that sparked a mother-daughter showdown over the failed coverup.

Who knows if this story is true or not?

    And, who really cares?

There DOES seem to be a concerted effort to drive Sarah Palin off the GOP ticket. If there was anything there there wouldn’t the LEFT prefer to drop the dirt two weeks before the election?

Anyway, Intrade has it about 14 per cent (at the time of posting)that Palin will be withdrawn as the Vice President nominee/candidate before the 2008 Presidential election.

    Here is the graph:

Price for Sarah Palin to be withdrawn as Republican VP nominee/candidate at intrade.com

Stay tuned for Sarah Palin’s big speech at the Republican National Convention.

    Update:

Flap cannot find the story on the National Enquirer site that has been challenged by the McCain campaign.

John McCain’s campaign threatened legal action against the National Enquirer today for running a story about McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin, allegedly having an affair with her husband’s business partner.

“The smearing of the Palin family must end. The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov. Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false. It is a vicious lie,” said McCain senior adviser Steve Schmidt.

“The efforts of the media and tabloids to destroy this fine and accomplished public servant are a disgrace. The American people will reject it.”

    Legal action was also threatened.

Sarah Palin Watch: Peggy Noonan LIES and Michael Murphy Sells Out McCain On An Open Mic

Two conservative commentators on MSNBC, after they’re off the air, say what they really think about the veep choice.

In a terrible display of “no confidence” for Sarah Palin, Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan blows her credibility (in an especially egregious display of lying to her readers) and political consultant Michael Murphy back stabs his former boss, John McCain.

As if anyone has to worry about ANYTHING these two EVER have to say about Republican politics again.

    The transcript:

Chuck Todd: Mike Murphy, lots of free advice, we’ll see if Steve Schmidt and the boys were watching. We’ll find out on your blackberry. Tonight voters will get their chance to hear from Sarah Palin and she will get the chance to show voters she’s the right woman for the job Up next, one man who’s already convinced and he’ll us why Gov. Jon Huntsman.

    (cut away)

    Peggy Noonan: Yeah.

Mike Murphy: You know, because I come out of the blue swing state governor world: Engler, Whitman, Tommy Thompson, Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush. I mean, these guys — this is how you win a Texas race, just run it up. And it’s not gonna work. And —

    PN: It’s over.

MM: Still McCain can give a version of the Lieberman speech to do himself some good.

CT: I also think the Palin pick is insulting to Kay Bailey Hutchinson, too.

    PN: Saw Kay this morning.

CT: Yeah, she’s never looked comfortable about this —

    MM: They’re all bummed out.

CT: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

PN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this — excuse me– political bullshit about narratives —

CT: Yeah they went to a narrative.

    MM: I totally agree.

PN: Every time the Republicans do that, because that’s not where they live and it’s not what they’re good at, they blow it.

MM: You know what’s really the worst thing about it? The greatness of McCain is no cynicism, and this is cynical.

CT: This is cynical, and as you called it, gimmicky.

    MM: Yeah.

Yes, those open microphones are dangerous when you cannot learn to say what you really mean, isn’t it?

Kiss some careers good bye. Wall Street Journal are you listening?

Flap wonders, did Chuck Todd know that the microphone was open with that question about Kay Bailey Hutchison?

The Swift – Boating of John McCain?

The Swift-Boating of John McCain has begun? Check out part of the e-mail Flap received in his in-box (H/T Mayor Sam):

Dr. Phillip Butler knew McCain as a fellow POW. Watch and listen!

We are sure this video will draw an onslaught of right-wing attacks, but we bring it to you because it is our job to continue to convey the truth together and give these issues national attention. As Dr. Butler has said, McCain does not have the temperament to have his finger near the red button. Get this video to everyone you know: friends, family members, coworkers, and especially those who don’t share your political views. The video is designed to reach them. Get it on your social networking sites like Digg. And get it to every blog, newspaper, and TV station that has ever overplayed McCain’s POW story. It is time to fight back with truth!

The mainstream press has already begun to call out McCain for overusing his POW story. And it’s cut across all political persuasions.

    • “Whether he’s deflecting criticism over his health-care plan or mocking a tribute to the Woodstock music festival, Senator John McCain has a trump card: the Hanoi Hilton. – Edwin Chen, Bloomberg
    • “Noun, Verb, POW” – Andrew Sullivan, The Atlantic Monthly
    • “The McCain campaign’s constant invocation of the candidate’s POW past is weird bordering on irrational…” – Ana Marie Cox, TIME
    • “I think they are going to it way too many times.” – Howard Fineman, Newsweek

Remember how Joe Biden got the press to refer to Rudy Giuliani as “A noun, a verb, and 9/11“? Well, let’s actually take Andrew Sullivan’s lead here and get the media to boil McCain down to a similar phrase: “A noun, a verb, and POW.” Considering how often the McCain campaign invokes his POW story, isn’t that what they’re already doing?

    Yours,
    Robert Greenwald
    and the Brave New team

Flap does not think this sociologist POW”s argument will fly much but you never know. Butler argues that John McCain was a POW and might be unhealthy and die young and McCain has a temper.

Well, done of these are earth shattering “exclusive” pronouncements. Everyone knows these facts – like everyone.

But, leave it to LEFTY Robert Greenwald to try to make some coin for his PAC and his Brave New Films company.

Oh yeah. Phillip Butler is a liberal Democrat.

Flap will again be microblogging the convention proceedings in the right sidebar under Twitter Updates or Follow Flap on Twitter.

She “took on the oil producers.”

He gave big oil billions in subsidies and giveaways.

    She’s “earned a reputation as a reformer.”

    His reputation? Empty words.

Sarah Palin Watch: The Parental Police

    sarahpalinfeedingfrenzy

Ah, yes. The MOMMY WARS and the PARENTAL POLICE.

Columnists in the mainstream media, who ordinarily would not dare to question the premise that mothers should be able to work and aspire to successful careers, are now the parental police, probing into how it is Palin will attend to her duties as a mother. Social conservatives meanwhile have been cast in the unusual role of defending a non-stay-at-home mom and fending off suggestions that Palin should — how did Hillary Clinton put it? — stay in the kitchen and bake cookies.

Sarah Palin, you’ve come along way, baby.
