GOP Leaders Support The Crap Sandwich of $700 Billion Financial Rescue

    crap sandwich

House Republican Whip, Rep. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., right, and House Republican Leader, Rep. John Boehner, R-Ohio, speak to reporters regarding the status of legislation on the financial crisis Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 on Capitol Hill in Washington

How many rank and file Republicans will support the “crap sandwich” financial bailout plan tomorrow as the House reconvenes?

In a closed-door session with House Republicans Sunday evening, Minority Leader John A. Boehner called the $700 billion financial rescue deal a “crap sandwich” — then said he plans to vote for it.

House Republicans are the key to the bill’s passage Monday – Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that it’s a “bipartisan” bill and will need “bipartisanship” to pass – and it now appears that many will cast their votes in favor of it.

But many Republicans still harbor deep misgivings about the legislation, and the outcome remains uncertain. Asked Sunday night where the support stood for the legislation, Boehner told reporters, “We don’t know.”

Alabama Rep. Spencer Bachus, the ranking Republican on the Financial Services Committee who was publicly removed from the negotiations on this bill, told a gathering of conservative lawmakers Sunday night that he would oppose the bill, according to some present. In emotional remarks to the group, Bachus said he’d told Boehner, and Boehner had said he was disappointed. Bachus, who supported Boehner in his bid for leader, joked that he might not be ranking on Financial Services next year.

Indiana Rep. Mike Pence — the first member of either party to publicly oppose the initial Treasury proposal — lobbied leaders to start over again from scratch.

Probably not enough GOP members to block this horrible legislation. But, enough to divide the caucus and cascade McCain to a loss in November.

If it is a “crap sandwich” why don’t you vote NO and start over again?

    Update:

Or, simply “Buy my s**tpile, Henry

Political Cartoons and the Double Standard at the Washington Post

    islamcartoonsumjpgweb

A summary display of the Mohammed cartoons that sparked riots last year throughout the Muslim world

The Washington Post would not publish the Mohammed cartoons which sparked controversy and riots last year yet will allow this Pat Oliphant cartoon mocking Sarah Palin and Pentecostal Christian religions to be run on their website.

    Why?

Here is the HYPOCRITICAL explanation by the Washington Post, Ombudsman, Deborah Howell.

Most complainers thought that the Oliphant cartoon appeared in print. It didn’t. I showed it to several Post editors. While it was clever in some ways, most editors — including me — would not have run it. The Post has a policy against defaming or perpetuating racial, religious or ethnic stereotypes. That was why The Post did not run the Danish cartoons about the prophet Muhammad.

Is there any wonder why newspapers like the Washington Post are losing subscribers and are failing in the world marketplace of ideas? If the Post must have standards apply them equally.

But, we all know this will NEVER happen. The Washington Post’s standards are just an excuse for censorship to perpetuate their left-wing bias.

Why the GOP is buying the Paulson-Democrat bailout plan is anyone’s guess. It is a dead loser for the GOP and will lead to the loss of John McCain (who is already cratering in the polls) and GOP Congressional candidates.

Who does Congress and the Bush Administration work for?

Certainly NOT the American people who overwhelmingly oppose the bailout.

    • House and Senate negotiators were pushing closer to a bailout deal with Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson Saturday night—with new interest in finding a way for Wall Street to pay part of the cost.

One option that has gained momentum: a plan that would require Treasury to impose a fee on financial companies’ transactions in the future to help the government recover any losses from the purchase and sale of mortgage-related assets.

Paulson has been open to the idea, which could prove attractive to both deficit-conscious Blue Dog Democrats and conservative Republicans who have argued that Wall Street—rather than taxpayers—should shoulder a big part of the cost.

Racing to reach a deal before the markets open Monday, lawmakers met late into the night in the Capitol office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) . Paulson set up a sort of command center in the office of Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), with lawmakers and staffers criss-crossing Statuary Hall

    • The first debate between John McCain and Barack Obama is on track to pull a surprisingly average viewership number, drawing fewer households in the preliminary ratings than George W. Bush's face off against John Kerry four years ago.

In the meter-market overnights, Friday night's 90-minute debate in Mississippi received a preliminary household rating of 33.2, according to Nielsen Media Research.

That's 16% lower than the national number from the 2004 debate, which aired on a Thursday — generally TV's most-watched night of the week. Friday's number is only slightly above George W. Bush and Al Gore's first debate in 2000 and the Clinton-Dole debate in 1996.

    • The US stock market could suffer a devastating crash with shares losing a third of their value this week if Hank Paulson’s financial bailout plan fails, US Treasury officials have warned.
